A family of five has been killed in an explosion at a rental cabin in Washington state, officials have reported.

Neighbors in Brinnon, Washington, about 40 miles outside of Seattle, called 911 after hearing an explosion around 1am Sunday, the Brinnon Fire Department said in a statement.

The names of the five victims, two adults and three children, are expected to be released as soon as Monday, once relatives have been notified.

Chinese missiles have reappeared on a disputed island in the South China Sea amid rising tensions with the United States.

Satellite images of Woody Island, China's largest base in the Paracel Islands that are also claimed by Vietnam and Taiwan, taken at the beginning of this month showed the missiles had been removed.

But new images taken by Israeli intelligence firm ImageSat International (ISI) on Friday revealed the missiles are back where they were before.

Beijing's most powerful nuclear missile could be ready to enter service.

Quoting a military expert, China's state-run newspaper People Daily claimed that the Dongfeng-41, or DF-41, was ready to be commissioned.

China reportedly conducted the 10th flight test of the intercontinental ballistic missile last month, which is said to be capable of striking anywhere in the world with up to 10 nuclear warheads.

The news came as tensions between Beijing and Washington escalated over South China Sea.

Kim Jong Un has invited Donald Trump to visit Pyongyang for a second summit in July, it has been reported.

The North Korean leader extended the invite in a letter that was hand-delivered to Trump in the White House earlier this month by emissary Kim Yong Chol.

If talks go well the July summit could be followed by another meeting in Washington scheduled for September, South Korean media says.
