CHICAGO WEATHER

Thunderstorms expected with Fourth of July celebrationsChicago is in for a warm and humid Fourth of July, potentially ending in showers and thunderstorms.

The National Weather Service forecast Monday a high of 89 degrees at O’Hare International Airport and Chicago Midway Airport, with an expected minimum humidity of 45% to 55%. The primary concern for the holiday, however, is the chance of thunderstorms.

“Anyone who is outside today should watch the forecast to look out for thunderstorms. When thunderstorms are near they should go indoors,” said a National Weather Service spokesperson.

The showers and thunderstorms could interrupt the holiday celebrations in the afternoon, but according to the NSW, they are more likely to hit later Monday night.

An isolated severe thunderstorm threat will be in effect from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. with an additional flash flood thread from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. According to the NSW Twitter post, the primary threats are hail, damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

The storms Monday night likely will not break the heat, as the NSW also warned of “dangerous heat” on Tuesday. A heat advisory is in effect for portions of Central, East Central, Southeast and West Central Illinois.
