The thing is, different human brains can interpret patterns the see in different ways and ascribe "spiritual" meanings in any way they chose. Uncertainty and magical thinking explains a lot.

Think to Christianity and the stories in the Bible for a moment. Now think to the constellations. We have Leo=Jesus, Virgo=Virgin Mary, Pisces=the symbol for Christianity, Aquarius=jar of water Luke22:10, Bull=Golden calf, Moses had destroyed for a new God.
