>George Washington…..veteran of the French and Indian War.
Right. He was a Lieutenant, maybe Major with General Braddock and were beat back from the battle of Pittsburgh. Braddock was seriously wounded. A Colonel was killed. On the retreat from the Burgh Braddock died, the next highest officer was the young George Washington, who because he was leading an army had to get a much higher rank.. He and his men camped out after building a makeshift defensive fort. They were attacked and George Washington surrendered. The French let him go. Turns out to be the 1st and only battle George Washington lost. It was called Fort Necessity and is a state, or federal, park. Up on a mountain plateau on Rt. 22 about 40 miles SW from the Burgh.
