Scientist testifies Fauci's claim that NIH never funded gain-of-function research is 'demonstrably false'

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) convened a first-of-its-kind Senate hearing on gain-of-function research Wednesday, during which expert witnesses contradicted Dr. Anthony Fauci's public statements that the National Institutes of Health never funded gain-of-function research.

“The statements made on repeated occasions to the public, to the press and to policymakers by the NIAID director, Dr. Fauci, have been untruthful. I do not understand why those statements are being made because they are demonstrably false,” Rutgers University molecular biologist Dr. Richard Ebright testified in response to a question from Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.).

Ebright was one of three scientists who testified that gain-of-function research needs more oversight at a Homeland Security subcommittee that focuses on emerging threats and spending oversight. This controversial field of research studies how pathogens might be enhanced to cause new, potentially deadlier infectious diseases. Gain-of-function experiments involve taking a pathogen that was found in nature and altering it in a lab.

The purpose of such experiments is to study how diseases might become deadly to humans, so that vaccines and other preventive measures could be developed to control and prevent a pandemic. But critics like Ebright and others are greatly concerned that gain-of-function research can be abused to create new deadly viral diseases that may cause a global pandemic if they escape from a lab.

Paul has clashed with Fauci over the NIH's apparent support for gain-of-function research in China several times in Senate hearings over the past two years. The Kentucky lawmaker has advocated for legislation tightening restrictions on the type of research the NIH may fund through grants and asserted that gain-of-function experiments at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China may have played a role in the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has repeatedly denied that his agency or any part of the NIH has provided federal funding for gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab.

Paul said Ebright's testimony about Fauci was "damning" in comments to the Daily Wire after the hearing.

“I was told directly to my face, and the quote is there from Dr. Fauci, they had never ever funded gain-of-function research in Wuhan. All three witnesses contradicted that,” Paul said. “I think that’s a big deal because the first hearing we have had where scientists who actually look at this information [and], as informed as he is, completely disagree with him and say that the research was gain-of-function and the NIH paid for it.”

Billions Meant for US Small Business Going to China, Russia: Watchdog

Small businesses seeking to grow their overseas sales are supposed to be the primary beneficiaries of loan guarantees by the U.S. Export-Import Bank (EX-IM), but a new analysis by a nonprofit government watchdog finds most of the funds go to corporate giants and corrupt regimes overseas.

“Small businesses, supposedly the intended beneficiary of the Export-Import Bank, received only $54.8 billion of the over $234 billion in total assistance since 2007, or about 23 percent” of the bank’s total funding, according to the report by Open The Books (OTB), a Chicago-based nonprofit that monitors government spending.

By filing more than 40,000 federal Freedom of Information Act requests and posting the checkbooks of 49 state governments, OTB has posted to the internet more than $6 trillion in public spending. The non-profit’s goal is to “post every dime in real-time.”

By far the biggest beneficiary of EX-IM lending is the Boeing Corporation, the largest U.S. aircraft manufacturer and one of the world’s most successful designers and builders of commercial airliners.

Boeing’s headquarters is currently in Chicago, but the company is planning a move to Arlington, Virginia, in the near future.

“The Export-Import Bank has been nicknamed ‘Boeing’s Bank’ by critics, and it is easy to see why. From 2007-2021, the aircraft giant received 33 percent of all of the Export-Import Bank’s assistance, totaling over $66.4 billion, while the second largest vendor received just over $5 billion. That’s more than all small businesses received combined,” the OTB report said.

“Boeing subsidiary Boeing Satellite Systems International reaped another $1.4 billion in assistance. Major international airline companies like Ryanair, Emirates Airlines, and Air Canada have all received assistance for Boeing purchases. Boeing employs a small army of 18 lobbyists to advocate for the Export-Import Bank,” the report said.

The second largest beneficiary of EX-IM funding is the Reston, Virginia-based Bechtel Corporation, which ranked only behind Boeing despite getting assistance for only seven contracts since 2007.

“The engineering and construction company received just over $5 billion from the bank for petroleum engineering in wealthy countries like the United Kingdom, Australia, and India, as well as with governments like Serbia and Kenya,” according to the OTB report.

General Electric Corporation and its subsidiaries whose exports of industrial engines and machinery in over 265 transactions earned them third place on the list of top vendors. The report said GEC got $4.7 billion in assistance between General Electric International Operations Company and General Electric Energy Parts alone.

South Africa Confirms Causal Link Between Death and COVID-19 Vaccine

The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) on Thursday confirmed that a person died as a result of the COVID-19 vaccine.

SAHPRA’s chief executive officer, Dr. Boitumelo Semete-Makokotlela, said this was the country’s first death causally linked to an individual and Johnson & Johnson’s (J&J) COVID-19 vaccine.

To date, the health regulator assessed around 160 people who “possibly died” after getting the jab, but it had not seen a positive link to vaccination until now, Semete-Makokotlela said.

Soon after being given the J&J shot, the patient developed Guillain-BarrĂŠ syndrome (GBS), a rare neurological disorder that has been identified as a possible side-effect of the jab.

“It is a very rare event,” said Hannelie Meyer, a professor of the national immunization safety committee, South African newspaper Daily Maverick reported. “The person presented with the symptoms shortly after vaccination and this had led to prolonged hospitalization, mechanical ventilation, and further infections.”

“At the time of illness no other cause for the Guillain-Barre syndrome could be identified,” she further declared.

GBS occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks its own nerves, typically resulting in numbness, weakness, pain in the limbs, and sometimes even paralysis of breathing.

Meyer noted that the patient’s age and other personal details, including the province where the death occurred, will not be disclosed for confidentiality reasons.

Last year, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) added a warning label to J&J’s COVID-19 vaccine, revising its fact sheets to “include information pertaining to an observed increased risk” of GBS following vaccination, a spokesperson for the agency told The Epoch Times on July 12, 2021.

That determination was made “based on an analysis of Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting (VAERS) data” which found “there have been 100 preliminary reports following vaccination with the Janssen vaccine after approximately 12.5 million doses administered,” the spokesperson said. At the time, 95 serious cases and one death were noted in the report of GBS cases in vaccine recipients.

According to the FDA, although available data suggest there is an association between the J&J vaccine and an increased risk of GBS, this is “insufficient to establish a causal relationship.”

A spokesperson for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told The Epoch Times that an “estimated 3,000 to 6,000 people” develop GBS every year in the United States, adding that the federal health agency is monitoring reports of GBS.

Migrant Apprehensions Along Southwest Border Hit 180K in July

Agents along the nine southwest Border Patrol sectors apprehended more than 180,000 migrants in July after they illegally crossed from Mexico between ports of entry. This represents a drop of approximately 10 percent from July 2021 — the first year-to-year monthly drop since August 2020.

Border Patrol agents working the southwest border with Mexico apprehended approximately 181,000 migrants who illegally entered the U.S. between ports of entry in July, according to an unofficial CBP report reviewed by Breitbart Texas. This represents a drop from the 191,898 migrants apprehended in June — a 5.6 percent decrease.

For the first time since August 2020, year-to-year apprehensions fell when compared to the previous July’s total of 200,658 to this July’s total.

So far this fiscal year, which began on October 1, 2021, Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 1.8 million migrants. This exceeds the entire FY21 total of 1,658,206 — with two full months remaining in the year.

The Del Rio Sector jumped solidly into first place as the busiest of the nine southwest border sectors. In July, agents apprehended nearly 50,000 migrants. This compares to 33,600 in July 2021 — an increase of nearly 50 percent. The Rio Grande Valley Sector fell to second place as agents apprehended only about 35,000 migrants — down from just over 81,000 in July 2021.

The Yuma Sector became another border crossing hot spot as agents in this remote desert region apprehended more than 24,000 migrants. This is up from the 14,845 migrants apprehended in July 2021.

More than 71 percent of the 181,000 migrant apprehensions fell into the category of Single Adults, the report reveals. Family Units made up approximately 22 percent while Single Minors added another seven percent.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is scheduled to report official numbers through the July Southwest Land Border Encounters report later this month. The numbers in that report may be adjusted slightly from the reports reviewed this week by Breitbart Texas.

FBI Director Admits Hunter Biden Payments Could Be Part Of ‘Malign Foreign Influence’ Campaign

FBI Director Christopher Wray said during a Thursday Senate Judiciary Committee hearing that payments from China and other countries to Americans like Hunter Biden could be part of a “malign foreign influence” campaign.

Committee ranking member Chuck Grassley of Iowa and former Senate Homeland Security Committee chairman Ron Johnson of Wisconsin have been conducting an investigation of Hunter Biden’s international business dealings. The sole surviving son of President Joe Biden previously sat on the board of a Ukrainian energy company, drawing a six-figure salary, and more recently conducted natural gas deals with his uncle Jim Biden and a Chinese Communist Party-controlled entity.

Grassley asked Wray whether or not Hunter Biden’s drawn salary could constitute an intelligence risk, an assessment with which Wray agreed. Grassley did not name Hunter Biden directly, referring to him as a “politically-exposed person.”

“If the FBI received information that foreign persons had evidence of improper or unlawful financial payments to elected officials or other politically-exposed persons, would that pose a national security concern?” Grassley asked.

“Well I think the kind of conduct you’re describing is typically something that very closely, through our efforts at malign foreign influence, it starts to shade into a blend of what we call malign foreign influence with potential public corruption. And it’s something we take seriously,” Wray said.

Son of Gulf Cartel Boss Pleads Guilty to Arms Smuggling in Texas

The son of the ultimate leader of the Gulf Cartel pleaded guilty to trying to smuggle rifles from Texas to Mexico while on parole. The troubled cartel heir has a history of arrests in Texas and still faces assault charges in a Brownsville bar stabbing incident.

On Tuesday afternoon, 30-year-old Osiel “Junior or Ozo” Cardenas Salinas, a U.S. citizen, went before U.S. District Judge Fernando Rodriguez Jr. in Brownsville where he pleaded guilty to one count of arms smuggling. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for November. His father, Osiel Cardenas Guillen, was the supreme leader of the Gulf Cartel and the founder of Los Zetas at a time when his organization was one of the most powerful in Mexico. He is serving a 25-year sentence in the U.S.

The smuggling case began in April 2021, when Jose Roberto “Hurraco” Molina Medrano contacted a man to help him purchase several firearms, court documents revealed. However the man that Hurraco worked with was a U.S. Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives asset. During the meetings, Hurraco revealed that he was purchasing the weapons for Cardenas Salinas.

Authorities arrested Molina and another man named Azhuan Martinez on April 22, during the purchase of 10 rifles (five AK-47s and five AR-15s) for $13,000 total. Molina met with the ATF informant for the purchase and Martinez arrived shortly after with the money.

Despite the case starting in April, it was not until December when U.S. Marshals arrested Cardenas at a luxurious home in Brownsville. The initial arrest was tied to a stabbing at a local bar. Cardenas and another man were recorded in surveillance video attacking two victims in response to an earlier altercation. Cardenas still faces state charges.

Court documents revealed that when Cardenas was directing the smuggling of the weapons, he was on supervised release for a March 2018 case where he pulled a gun at a different bar despite being a convicted felon. When authorities arrived, he presented a stolen police badge and claimed to be a U.S. Marshal. Cardenas was sentenced to two years and three months in prison.

Cardenas’ first federal felony arrest came in January 2015 when he tried to smuggle hundreds of rounds and weapons parts into Mexico. After taking a plea deal, Cardenas received a 10-month prison sentence. He also has a record of local arrests including DWIs and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Quadruple Vaxxed Joe Biden Tests Positive For Covid Again… Still Has a Cough, Will Continue to Isolate

Why hasn’t Dr. O’Connor taken any questions from the press regarding Joe Biden’s ongoing Covid infection?

Quadruple vaxxed Joe Biden tested positive for the China Coronavirus again on Thursday according to the White House doctor.

Biden, 79, still has a cough and will continue to isolate at the White House.

“The President feels very well today,” Dr. O’Connor wrote. “He is still experiencing a very occasional cough, but the cough is improving. His temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate and oxygen saturation remain entirely normal. His lungs remain clear.”

Dr. O’Connor added, “Given his rebound positivity which we reported Saturday, we have continued daily monitoring. This morning, his SARS-CoV-2 antigen testing remained positive.”

Biden will continue to hide out just like he did during the 2020 election.

“The President will continue his strict isolation measures as previously described,” he wrote.

NJ Councilwoman Who Mowed Down Cyclist Had at Least 9 Outstanding Traffic Tickets

After a hit-and-run that injured the cyclist, Councilwoman Amy DeGise's long list of traffic violations is coming to light.

The Jersey City’s mayor’s office released video last week of first-term city Councilwoman-at-Large Amy DeGise mowing down a cyclist at an intersection without even tapping the brakes, let alone checking on the victim. A new report reveals DeGise has an extensive history of traffic and parking violations, include nine overdue fines she only settled on Monday afternoon.

DeGise slammed into Uber Eats delivery rider Andrew Black at 8 a.m. on July 19 at the intersection of Forrest Street and Martin Luther King. While DeGise did have the right of way, she also didn’t stop, or even slow down after striking Black.

Locals rushed in to the help Black, who suffered multiple injuries. The crash was so egregious that New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy called DeGise out, calling her reaction, or rather lack thereof, completely “unacceptable.” Murphy did not go so far as to demand her resignation. DeGise, for her part, is insisting she isn’t going anyway, according to Bloomberg:

In a statement, DeGise spokesman Phil Swibinski said the councilwoman was thankful that no one was seriously injured but would decline to comment until after her traffic citations are resolved in court.

“Councilwoman DeGise was elected overwhelmingly just a few months ago and she has no intention of walking away from the commitment she made to serve the people of Jersey City,” Swibinski said. “She will not resign and plans to complete her full term and continue in public service.”

Now NJ.com reports traffic violations aren’t a one-time thing for DeGuise. Since 2005, DeGuise has racked up dozens of traffic tickets—including nine overdue, outstanding tickets she only settled on Monday afternoon:

Aside from the Jersey City tickets, the 36-year-old DeGise also had one outstanding ticket in Hoboken and one in Bayonne. She had been ticketed at least 13 other times in Hudson County in incidents she had previously resolved — three in Hoboken, five in Bayonne, two in Secaucus, one in North Bergen and two in Union City.

In a February 2017 incident in Secaucus, DeGise’s vehicle was impounded when police found her license was suspended.

The true number of resolved tickets, though is likely much higher, because DeGise has so many resolved tickets in Jersey City that the state website, which can display 25 tickets, said the number exceeded the capability to display them.ďťż

Drivers seem to get every chance possible in New Jersey! While most of the tickets are parking violations, in one case police towed her unregistered, illegally parked vehicle. Bodycam video showed DeGise tried to big-dog the police with her super important position on city council, despite having yet been sworn in, NJ.com reports.

Pfizer buys stake in Lyme vaccine developer Valneva

Pfizer will spend close to $100 million to buy an 8.1% stake in the French vaccine company Valneva to support their ongoing collaboration on Lyme disease. Pfizer aims to start a Phase 3 study of their codeveloped Lyme disease vaccine, VLA15, in the third quarter. The product is the only Lyme vaccine in clinical development, the companies say. It works by targeting an outer surface protein on the bacteria that causes the disease.

Life insurance claims skyrocket after COVID jab rollout, prompting insurers to take legal action against vaccine manufacturers

Life insurance claims have skyrocketed since the COVID jab rollout, dwarfing the number of claims made during 2020 when a high-mortality-rate-pandemic was supposedly ravaging the Nation. Yale epidemiologist Harvey Risch believes that insurance companies are on the verge of taking legal action against vaccine manufacturers over vaccine-associated death risks that were downplayed from the very beginning.

Risch points to an explosion of “early unexpected mortality claims” after the COVID vaccine rollout. This influx of life insurance claims is not even COVID-related, and insurers are struggling to pay out. Risch says that vaccine manufacturers misrepresented the “all-cause mortality” from their very own clinical trials, not only deceiving the population into taking dangerous vaccines, but also misleading the insurance companies who are now forced to pay for thousands of needless deaths in young and middle-aged adults.

Will insurance companies seek financial compensation from the COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers to cover for “major financial risk[s] that they have to figure out how to manage” going forward?

Epidemiologist believes life insurance companies may sue vaccine manufacturers for misleading statements

Risch has analyzed statements made by the CEOs of various group life insurance companies. He claims that the actuaries miscalculated, estimating that the vaccinated would “live longer than they have.” Risch said the actuaries were deceived on “all-cause mortality…from the original [vaccine] trials.”

In December of 2021, OneAmerica CEO Scott Davison attended a healthcare conference and spoke up about an “unheard of” 40 percent spike in the death rate of working-age people insured by the company. The 40 percent increase in death made no rational sense because the covid-19 vaccine had been rolled out the entire year. Government and public health officials promised that this vaccine program would save lives and end the pandemic.
