A jury has ordered Alex Jones to pay the parents of a child who died in the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting an additional $45.2 million in punitive damages, after awarding them $4.1 million earlier this week.

The Associated Press reported that Jones will have to pay a combined $49.3 million, though parents Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis had sought $150 million.

The jury awarded them the $4.1 million in compensatory damages earlier this week.

Volodymyr Zelensky Asks Xi Jinping for Talks, Invites China to Rebuild Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told the South China Morning Post on Thursday that he would like to discuss his country’s war against Russia with the leader of Russia’s closest ally, Xi Jinping, “directly,” and invited China to help rebuild Ukraine once the war is over.

Zelensky’s discussion with the Morning Post, a Hong Kong newspaper, was the first with an Asian news outlet since Russia escalated its eight-year-old war against Ukraine into a full-scale invasion in February. Zelensky used the opportunity to request a personal discussion with Xi, a genocidal communist dictator who is largely bankrolling the invasion of Ukraine through large purchases of cheap Russian oil and gas.

Ukraine is a member of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a global program to trap poor countries in predatory loans to China that they cannot afford. The loans are nominally meant to pay China for massive infrastructure projects. China was also Ukraine’s top trading partner prior to the war. Last year, Zelensky said he hoped that Ukraine would become a “bridge to Europe” for Chinese influence in his last conversation with Xi.

While welcoming Chinese financing and failing to criticize China for maintaining a strong alliance with Russia throughout this year’s invasion, Zelensky has been slightly more critical of the Chinese Communist Party than his predecessors, unilaterally sanctioning the world’s second-largest economy last year after a Chinese company tried to buy a key Ukrainian defense corporation.

In conversation with the Morning Post, Zelensky expressed hope that China would help “put the Russian Federation [in] a certain place” economically and said he would personally like China to “review its attitude” regarding Russia.

“It’s a very powerful state. It’s a powerful economy … So (it) can politically, economically influence Russia. And China is [also a] permanent member of the U.N. Security Council,” the newspaper quoted Zelensky as saying in a 40-minute interview. “This is a war on our territory, they came to invade. China, as a big and powerful country, could come down and sort of put the Russian Federation [in] a certain place.”

The Ukrainian president reportedly expressed frustration with the inaction regarding the invasion of his country on the part of the Security Council, which China serves on as a permanent member with veto powers.

“Why should we have the Security Council at all, if any country … or several countries in the world, could simply decide to violate the rules militarily?” he asked.

Zelensky noted that Xi had visited Ukraine personally in the past and said he believed that a direct conversation with him — rather than Chinese diplomats — could benefit Kyiv.

“I would like to talk directly. I had one conversation with [President] Xi Jinping that was a year ago,” Zelensky recalled. “Since the beginning of the large-scale aggression on February 24, we have asked officially for a conversation, but we (haven’t had) any conversation with China even though I believe that would be helpful.”

Texas governor buses illegal immigrants to NYC after city's mayor declines to visit border

"New York City is the ideal destination for these migrants, who can receive the abundance of city services and housing that Mayor Eric Adams has boasted about within the sanctuary city," Gov. Greg Abbott says.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott invited New York City Mayor Eric Adams to visit the southern border and see first-hand the costs Texans are bearing as a result of “President Biden’s border crisis.” On Friday, he’d announced the first bus of illegal immigrants had arrived in New York City from Texas.

Abbott’s invitation came after Adams publicly blamed the Texas governor for the influx of illegal immigrants being flown into his “sanctuary city,” calling it a “humanitarian crisis.” The city’s budget, its social services, including its homeless shelters, are all strained, and its public schools will be experiencing an influx of enrollment of non-English speakers he said the city doesn’t have the resources to support.

At the time, Abbott clarified the influx of people arriving in New York City were being transported by the Biden administration and Texas had only sent several thousand people to Washington, D.C.

But after Adams didn’t take up his offer to visit the southern border, Abbott began busing people to NYC.

On Friday, Abbott announced the arrival of the first bus that dropped off people Friday morning at the Port Authority Bus Terminal Gate 14.

"Because of President Biden’s continued refusal to acknowledge the crisis caused by his open border policies, the State of Texas has had to take unprecedented action to keep our communities safe," Abbott said. "In addition to Washington, D.C., New York City is the ideal destination for these migrants, who can receive the abundance of city services and housing that Mayor Eric Adams has boasted about within the sanctuary city. I hope he follows through on his promise of welcoming all migrants with open arms so that our overrun and overwhelmed border towns can find relief."

Abbott also said he would continue to bus people to Washington, D.C. “until Biden does his job of securing the border.”

He told Fox News, “Public officials across the country … need to realize the magnitude of the chaos created by Biden’s open border policies. They’re up in arms about a few thousand people coming into their communities over the past few months. In any one sector of the state of Texas, we have more than 5,000 people coming across every single day. We’re full in the state of Texas. Our communities are overrun.”

Last week, Adams held a news conference saying the influx of people was “a real burden on New Yorkers as we’re trying to do the right thing. We already have an overburdened shelter system so now we’re talking about food, clothing, school. This is going to impact our schools because we do not turn away individuals because they are undocumented. There’s just a whole host of things that this is going to produce and that’s why we need help.”

Japanese Surgeon Calls for End to COVID Vaccine Booster Program in Letter to Prominent Medical Journal

Dr. Kenji Yamamoto, a heart surgeon, has recorded an uptick in vaccine-related immune system deficiencies

Dr. Kenji Yamamoto, a Japanese cardiovascular surgeon, has penned a letter to the peer-reviewed journal Virology that calls for an end to the COVID-19 vaccine booster program in the country. “As a safety measure, further booster vaccinations should be discontinued,” Yamamoto wrote. The highly regarded surgeon cited the fact that COVID-19 vaccines have been linked to vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia, which has been fatal in a number of patients.

Yamamoto works at Okamura Memorial Hospital in Shizuoka, Japan, according to The Epoch Times. In the letter he explains that he and his colleagues have “encountered cases of infections that are difficult to control,” including some that occurred after open-heart surgery and were still not under control after several weeks of treatment with multiple antibiotics.

According to Yamamoto, affected patients showed signs of being immunocompromised. For some patients, vaccine-induced side effects proved fatal, the letter explains. In addition, Yamamoto believes the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine has suppressed the immune systems of a number of patients.

The Japanese surgeon’s move is highly irregular, as doctors don’t often submit opinions that fly in the face of the medical status quo.

In his letter to Virology, Yamamoto cited a Swedish study that reported that eight to nine months after vaccination with two doses, the vaccinated subjects were more likely to contract COVID-19 than their unvaccinated controls. This study also hinted at possible immune-suppression effects as a result of COVID-19 vaccines.

Vaccine-induced immune disruption is further supported by Israeli and Indian studies that demonstrated an increased likelihood of shingles following COVID vaccination. The Israeli study reported a risk ratio of 1.43, meaning that vaccination raised the risk of developing shingles by 43 percent.

At the hospital where Dr. Yamamoto works, patients are screened for Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia antibodies prior to surgeries. Heparin is a drug commonly used to prevent clotting, including during open-heart surgery.

People exposed to Heparin sometimes develop antibodies that attack their own platelets, which reduces the available number. The platelets can then clump together as clots, an outcome the drug is supposed to guard against.

Yamamoto became alarmed due to the fact that his hospital has seen an unusually high number of positive tests for heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) antibodies since COVID vaccination began, The Epoch Times reported.

Florida Prosecutor Suspended by DeSantis Defiant, Says He’ll Keep Serving in Position

“I’m still doing this job, the state attorney … and the governor signing something with a pen or crayon doesn’t change that,” Andrew Warren told reporters during a press conference.

DeSantis, a Republican, suspended Warren, the state attorney for the 13th Judicial Circuit, hours earlier, citing how Warren has vowed not to enforce laws regarding abortion and hypothetical laws regarding sex change operations.

In his order, DeSantis requested the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office to “assist in the immediate transition” of Warren from the office and to ensure Warren and his staffers removed no files or other documents.

It’s not clear if the request was fulfilled.

“I don’t know the details of how that happened, if it did,” a spokesperson for the office told The Epoch Times.

The spokesperson asked for emailed questions. When emailed, the spokesperson declined to comment, instead pointing to how Sheriff Chad Chronister appeared with DeSantis at the briefing announcing the suspension and supported the move.

A spokesperson for DeSantis and the Office of the State Attorney for the 13th Judicial Circuit did not return requests for comment.

DeSantis ordered Warren replaced by Susan Lopez, a judge in the circuit. The prosecutor’s office on Thursday began listing Lopez as the state attorney, and published a picture of her being sworn in.

The Florida Senate can make the suspension permanent or overturn it, per the state’s Constitution.

Abortion Ban

After the suspension was ordered, Warren held a press conference announcing charges in a cold case and said he would not be abiding by the suspension.

Later in the day, he appeared on CNN and reiterated that he would keep doing his job.

DeSantis cited how Warren signed two joint statements with other prosecutors about certain laws, including a letter in June after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade. The prosecutors said that “we decline to use our offices’ resources to criminalize reproductive health decisions” and would not enforce abortion bans.

Florida lawmakers passed, and DeSantis signed, a law this year to ban abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy.

A circuit court judge in July said the law violated Florida’s Constitution. The judge blocked the law, but soon stayed the ruling as the state appeals it.

“The 15 week abortion ban is unconstitutional,” Warren told reporters.

Former CNN anchor Felicia Taylor arrested for alleged hit-and-run

Former CNN anchor Felicia Taylor has been arrested in Palm Beach over an alleged hit-and-run.

The retired anchor-correspondent who worked for CNN International’s “World Business Today“ was arrested on July 28 after she allegedly hit another car while driving her white Mercedes, causing injury to the other driver, then leaving the scene, Palm Beach Police said. She denies the charges.

According to the incident report, Taylor, 57, struck the rear bumper of a black Ford, driven by a 24-year-old man, which was stopped in traffic ahead of her Mercedes.

“His vehicle was struck from behind by the white Mercedes. The impact caused [him] to strike the steering wheel, causing multiple complaints of injuries,” the report states.

However, following the impact, Taylor’s Mercedes was seen “fleeing the scene of the accident without rendering aid or stopping to provide information,” the report adds.

Taylor, who is well known on the New York City, Hamptons and Palm Beach social scenes, was then seen twice driving past the scene of the crash in her car, which had “sustained heavy front end damage” without stopping, the report said.

She was then pulled over by a police officer who stated, “Taylor acknowledged being involved in a traffic crash and the other driver was ‘OK.’

“Taylor continued to state that she wanted to go back to her house . . . and the accident was ‘not a big deal.'”

She told the police officer she was traveling from The Colony Hotel, “and when confronted that the Colony Hotel was closed, Taylor didn’t have a response.”

She denied being on prescription drugs or having imbibed any alcohol, and the police officer added that he did not smell alcohol on her.

The other driver was treated at the scene by EMTs and complained of jaw, head, neck and back pain. Taylor was evaluated twice by EMTs and was found to be unhurt.

The police officer added, “Prior to the crash, Taylor stated she was at a restaurant on Worth Avenue and then stated she was at a restaurant in the Royal Poinciana Plaza. We were unable to locate a restaurant that recalls Taylor as a guest.”

Taylor also “wanted the injuries of the other driver to be substantiated” and stated “the damage to her vehicle is her problem, its ‘hard to be a good person’ and she didn’t stop at the accident scene because she didn’t know there was anything to be concerned with,” the report also states.

Elon Musk Accuses Twitter of Fraud: Countersuit

Elon Musk in a countersuit has accused Twitter executives of fraudulently presenting an undercount of fake users, known as bots.

Twitter in July sued Musk for withdrawing from a $44 billion acquisition agreement, alleging he breached the agreement.

In the counter-filing, entered under seal last month and obtained by The Epoch Times on Aug. 5, Musk says he relied on statements from Twitter to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission about key components of the company, such as the percentage of fake and spam accounts and moderation practices.

But once Musk entered the agreement, he found that the technology company refused to provide access to the company’s books and records to verify the information.

“The more Twitter evaded even simple inquiries, the more the Musk Parties grew to suspect that Twitter had misled them,” the countersuit says.

One key statistic: 238 million monetizable daily active users (users who actually see ads on the platform and thus would be considered monetizable). But that number is an overcount because there are more false and spam accounts on the platform than Twitter says, according to the filing.

There are just 173 million monetizable users and most ads are shown to less than 16 million, it says.

Twitter has said under 5 percent of its users are bots.

Musk, in a meeting in May, attempted to understand how Twitter reached that percentage. He “was astonished to learn just how meager Twitter’s processes were,” the countersuit says. Musk learned that human reviewers look at a sample of just 100 accounts, and that Twitter executives weren’t able to say how the accounts in the sample were selected.

“Unlike other platforms, Twitter did not send email, text, or other push notifications to users to verify them. Musk realized that, at best, Twitter’s reliance on and touting of its process was reckless; at worst, it was intentionally misleading,” the filing states. “Since then, Twitter’s disclosures have slowly unraveled, with Twitter frantically closing the gates on information in a desperate bid to prevent the Musk Parties from uncovering its fraud.”

Based on data Twitter has provided, analyzed using an algorithm, one-third of visible accounts in July may have been false or spam.

Twitter’s representations to the government contained “numerous, material misrepresentations or omissions that distort Twitter’s value and caused the Musk Parties to agree to acquire the company at an inflated price,” the countersuit says.
