Democratic Party activism Edit

Tompkins Buell is often described as Hillary Clinton's soul mate.[7] She led Clinton's fundraising efforts for 2008 in the San Francisco Bay area.[8] In 2006, The Washington Post published a story about the Democracy Alliance, calling it an "exclusive donor club" for progressive donors and identifying Tompkins Buell and her husband Mark Buell as members.[9] Tompkins Buell held a fundraiser for David Brock's Media Matters at her San Francisco home. A foundation that bears her name gave money to Media Matters through the Tides Foundation.[10] Buell along with George Soros and other Democracy Alliance members John R. Hunting; Paul Rudd (co-founder of Adaptive Analytics); Pat Stryker; Nicholas Hanauer; ex-Clinton administration official Rob Stein; Drummond Pike; real estate developer Robert Bowditch; Pioneer Hybrid International-heir and congressional candidate Scott Wallace; Gail Furman; real estate developer Albert Dwoskin; and Taco Bell-heir Rob McKay, funded the Secretary of State Project, an American non-profit, 527 political action committee focused on electing reform-minded progressive Secretaries of State in battleground states, who typically oversee the election process.[11] The Alliance was critical in getting California Secretary of State Debra Bowen and Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie re-elected.

“Not surprisingly, Djerassi runs in the same circles as Mrs. Clinton: in June 1999, he was one of 30 people at a private fund-raising event that was organized by Mrs. Clinton’s friend, Susie Tompkins Buell (Hillary was traveling at the time and couldn’t make it)."

"Ghislaine Maxwell’s socialite sister Isabel Maxwell married Dale Djerassi, son of birth control pill inventor Carl Djerassi, in 1984 and had son Alexander that same year, as shown by the Maxwell family tree. The couple later divorced. Carl Djerassi pursued a career in art while his son Alexander pursued politics. Both Dale and his son Alexander are on the Board of Trustees for the Djerassi Resident Artists Program. Dale and Alexander have been pictured together as father and son by the San Francisco Chronicle and other publications."

Kamala connect

Kamala Harris, the home state senator in the race, is scheduled to appear at a Sunday fundraiser in San Francisco hosted by friend and former Hillary Clinton donor Susie Tompkins Buell - after headlining a pair of Los Angeles-area events last weekend hosted by NBCUniversal's Jeff Shell and his wife, Laura, and David Cooley, owner of The Abbey in West Hollywood.

It all started in 1995 with the idea that we can transform children's relationship with food if we give them a taste of what's possible. To demonstrate this simple truth, Alice Waters created the first Edible Schoolyard in partnership with the principal at a public middle school in Berkeley.

As the idea took shape, a committed and creative coalition of educators, families, farmers, cooks, and artists joined the effort.

Involving students directly was key: with their participation, an organic garden took root and flourished as a rich teaching environment, while a kitchen classroom brought everyone to the table to share what they were learning.

Today, Alice Waters's idea is known as edible education, and that very first program in California inspires and trains educators from across the country – and around the world – to seed and grow sustainable programs in their communities.

  1. Our Mission

The mission of the Edible Schoolyard Project is to build and share a national edible education curriculum for pre-kindergarten through high school.

Edible education connects the experience of school to the real, lived experience of our students. It prioritizes access to the healthy food that underpins all other efforts to give children a strong start at school and in life.

That's why we believe that integrating an edible education into all schools can dramatically change the schooling experience for every child in the United States.

  1. Our Work

THE MODEL

The garden, kitchen, and cafeteria at King Middle School serve as a demonstration site and innovation hub for the edible education curriculum and pedagogy. We have worked closely with the whole school community to connect a one-acre teaching garden and a dedicated kitchen classroom to the science and humanities curricula taught to all students. Evening family classes invite parents and trusted adults to learn with and from their students. Across the playground, the larger cafeteria kitchen prepares delicious school meals from scratch for all public school students in Berkeley, using fresh, local, seasonal ingredients.

TRAINING

In our professional development programs and short courses, we empower other educators to create and sustain similar programs in their home communities. Our goal is to help schools develop strong edible education programs grounded in shared standards of practice and justice, responsive to the cultural, institutional, and funding realities of their own particular contexts. Since 2009, we have trained 897 teachers, administrators, food service staff, nutritionists, community leaders, and parents from over 367 schools worldwide, representing more than 1 million students in 42 US states.

TOOLS & TECHNOLOGY

Everything we create is documented and shared for free. Our online Resource Library and Network community offer educators vetted lessons, teaching practices, program tools, and training materials – fostering the creation, growth, and enrichment of edible education programs near and far.

ADVOCACY

We are proud to be part of a dynamic national and international movement uniting grassroots and community groups with highly influential civic and government institutions, all committed to forging a just, sustainable food system and future.

In case you were wondering why Roberta's Pizza was mysteriously closed for most of yesterday, here's your answer: Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton were eating pizza in Bushwick last night! Certainly this pizza date was not as history-shaking as some of Bill's previous pizza dates.

We've contacted Roberta's for more information; one employee told us that everything was being kept hush-hush about the private event, but we've at least gotten confirmation that now-vegan Bill Clinton and family were there. You can check out some tweets about it below. We'll update once we get more details.
