Antarctica is [redacted] because the ice has been GROWING.
That is one reason, and it seems sort of obvious now.
Which makes me think of two immediate questions -

Are we entering an ice age?

Is something classified tugging at our orbit?
I also remember they have found an "ark" there.
It would be wise to keep the ruins away from the prying eyes of the peasants.
Perhaps there is an Atlantis smell to the whole thing.
