Those regulating agencies are non governmental. They are voluntary. EPA is not. You will meet their standards or die trying not to.
ISO is more of a tool standard and bolt standard. I don't have a problem with them. They insure that when I order a thousand 1/4/20 bolts that the nuts I have on hand will fit and torque properly. I like that sort of shit.
