IF you are really serious (not sure about that) the first mistake is to cage the dog before leaving. Even if it's a room - for the dog it is a cage. Every single time the dog gets more traumatized. Stop immediately with everything you described if you don't want to hurt the dog. First thing you need to do is to repair the damage that is done yet. Rebuild trust, leaving the house should be a normal situation without any angryness or any pitiness or something else emotional from the owner. A dog trainer (human trainer) can show you how to archieve that.
