I live in Illinois. I don't think I am allowed to protect my property.
If someone comes into my house and walks out with my TV and they didn't physically threaten me, then I'm not allowed to shoot them. In fact, I am not allowed to brandish a gun or threaten to shoot them. I just have to let them steal my TV. Then I can report it to the police.
