1.)

There is a really long, really wide, road extending from the border all the way up toward Tucson.

It begins here:

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.492006234927263%2C-111.57246143565368&z=19

It's not meant for cars. It's meant for horses.

The path is blocked by ditches:

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.495725646199674%2C-111.57251776204299&z=20

Dirt walls:

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.496741096960367%2C-111.57249093995284&z=20

Rock walls:

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.545240034303003%2C-111.57254592523765&z=20

Potholes from hell:

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.58822585880149%2C-111.57264919028472&z=20

Along the way are horse pens, and it is zig-zagged with 'one lane' dirt 'roads'. Note the size of the roads compared to the path.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.5987262006104%2C-111.57261432156753&z=20

Ten to fifteen miles in we encounter an X… out in the middle of nowhereland. They tend to occur where roads come near the path, probably because it's easier to step out of your vehicle to paint an X than it is to step off your horse.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.602633825854966%2C-111.57245473013114&z=20

About 25 miles further we encounter a 2nd X. Trust me, I didn't miss any - I traveled the wwhhoooolllee length by hand.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.768507732545032%2C-111.51494816885184&z=20

You might be wondering where the road is. It's just a little south. Someone went off-roading to paint that X.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.767535151177444%2C-111.51483551607322&z=20

Perhaps 5 miles later, and we encounter six more X's.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.801794520306995%2C-111.47746295676421&z=14

If you'll notice the red pin on the left:

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.784273412127632%2C-111.51401073680114&z=19

It marks a mansion owned by the Bertarelli family. They control the Ares-Serono Group, a pharmaceutical company. That company recently merged with Merck. They're based out of Switzerland.

Renamed Merck Serono S.A.: Private Company - Merck Serono is known as EMD Serono.

What aviation company has a white cross? Swiss Air.

https://skytraxratings.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/Swiss_A320_1-984x554.jpg

Looks a lot like the X, doesn't it?

Not sure if it's related, but further south there is another, less well kept mansion:

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.54778007118473%2C-111.5854633012234&z=20

They have a tennis court:

And a helicopter:

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.54859723740609%2C-111.5847243526398&z=20

2.)

Anyway, back to the X's… This one is near a water tank, and an intersection. Notice the dirt walls built up on either side of the road? They want to make sure no one goes even a little distance down their path.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.792286535292657%2C-111.49041520146716&z=19

This one also occurs near an intersection. No water tank, but there is a wash.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.804634709225258%2C-111.47541762976039&z=20

Only about 400 feet later, and we have the next X.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.804409610745335%2C-111.47426293877948&z=19

Not sure what this is, but it's the next landmark on our journey, this time about 350 feet later. Graves perhaps?

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.80560120178453%2C-111.47154451994288&z=20

3000 or so feet, and we have 2 more X's. This one bothers me. It disobeys the rule. The one to the south is near the path, but is not near an intersection, while the one to the north is near a road, but not the path.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.806540900955127%2C-111.46509112505305&z=17

The last of our newfound X's is here, near a bend in the path, and an intersection.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.804599377353604%2C-111.45457150129664&z=20

From here the path continues northward, and it tends to stay about 300ft off of a main road.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.81425986297998%2C-111.45285756973612&z=18

Rarely will it cross paths.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.821491601997145%2C-111.43777282623637&z=18

From here there's really a whole lot of nothing, except for these odd concrete structures. Remember the one at the very start of the path? They lie all along it, sort of like 'markers', or landmarks.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.834532598910467%2C-111.41407148627627&z=19

Sometimes the path narrows. In this case, likely because when the path was under construction a river blocked them. Not as much problem for horses though.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.844017356513906%2C-111.4049627044617&z=17

On, and on it goes, following the road north.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.900868986314812%2C-111.39932872442591&z=13

Right up past Three Points Veterans Memorial Park.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=32.061914386071145%2C-111.31733359484065&z=16

Less than a mile from the Pima County Sheriffs Department.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=32.07447924731415%2C-111.30566062120783&z=16

Look in the top right. See the 'Tucson Mountain Park'? Look a little left and down. In the center of that blue cluster of pins is a green one. That, finally, is where the path ends. The yellow pins in the top left are the 'Lookout Peak' that VOP discovered. The yellow pin on the center right is the CEMEX location where the first X was discovered. Conveniently, our end destination lies smack in between them.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=32.120372450744654%2C-111.24191390065539&z=11

Just a few more before we wrap this up….

Our endpoint is on the bottom left, and you see those blue pins on the top right?

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=32.18662947394958%2C-111.2082374253689&z=16

They mark this location. Three guys standing in a line near an SUV with the trunk popped, a truck, and supplies. Kind of an odd place for three guys to be standing in a line.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=32.189878354063886%2C-111.20062933949816&z=20

Anyway, finally, the path ends here.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=32.18426864290833%2C-111.21551559953082&z=17

3.)

I can't help but notice a lot of concrete.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=32.18040946033687%2C-111.21577845601428&z=16

And some very large underground pipes.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=32.184109171105106%2C-111.21512667922366&z=20

Maybe that's why these can be found periodically along the path

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=32.18956794206119%2C-111.16730021027911&z=19

Maybe the pipes run aaaallllll the way down the path, from start to finish.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.899646176570883%2C-111.43356578139651&z=10

What are they carrying?

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qB9aTtRTkQTDjNEaBTKYI_uLcODYHRbH&ll=31.492596809322375%2C-111.57255382923472&z=19
