Very reminiscent of the NK video today. (In a good way)
It was just to appease the natives while he claimed large swaths of land in the name of global warming.
They never really cared for the name, and either preferred or were convinced to prefer the mountain be named it's original native name rather than some dude from Iowa.
Lots of actors will use lifts or stand on soap boxes during a scene so they're on level with another actor in the shot. This was probably taken during the filming of a movie, I doubt he wears these in public.
