Michigan Governor Won’t Stop Lying to Voters About Job Gains

 

Gretchen Whitmer says the state has added 25,000 auto jobs since she took office. It has actually lost thousands.

 

Michigan Democratic governor Gretchen Whitmer says she's added 25,000 "good-paying auto jobs" during her tenure. The state has actually lost thousands of auto jobs on her watch, labor statistics show.

 

In a June 2 press release, Whitmer said she was "proud" to announce Michigan has "added nearly 25,000 auto jobs since I took office." The Democrat roughly three weeks later repeated the claim, writing in a "mobility and electrification" fact sheet that she "is ensuring Michigan lives up to its legacy as the place that put the world on wheels by creating nearly 25,000 good-paying auto jobs."

 

Bureau of Labor Statistics data, however, contradict that claim. Whitmer inherited 169,500 auto jobs when she became governor in January 2019, according to the agency. As of May 2022, that number is 166,700—a decrease of nearly 3,000 jobs.

 

Whitmer's deceptive declaration shows how the Democrat is attempting to rebound on economic issues following her stringent stay-at-home orders, which shuttered local stores but deemed marijuana dispensaries, lottery ticket vendors, and big-box retailers "essential." While Whitmer has touted leading the "best economic recovery in Michigan history," a June WalletHub report ranked Michigan 46th in unemployment claim recovery.

 

Michigan Rising Action communications director Mary Drabik said Whitmer's "gaslighting" on auto jobs is "not surprising."

 

"When Gov. Whitmer's claims are this far detached from reality, it becomes difficult to believe anything she says," Drabik told the Washington Free Beacon. "But coming from the governor who claims her nursing-home policies saved lives and vacationed in Florida while telling Michiganders to avoid flying south, the gaslighting is not surprising."

 

Whitmer's office acknowledged that the governor's claim stems from "the number of jobs announced since January 2019," some of which are not yet actualized. Still, Whitmer communications director Bobby Leddy said the governor "is proud of her record of job creation, particularly in the auto industry, as we move to cement Michigan's legacy of manufacturing." Leddy did not address why Whitmer's statistic does not account for jobs that have left the state since 2019.

 

This is far from the first time Whitmer has faced criticism for failing to deliver on a claim. In April 2020, the Democrat pledged to give back a portion of her salary for the duration of the coronavirus pandemic. But Whitmer ended the pledge just five months later in September, even as her indoor gathering restrictions and public face mask requirements lasted for 15 months.

 

Whitmer, who implemented a policy that required nursing homes to accept positive coronavirus patients who were discharged from hospitals, is up for reelection in November after a roller coaster of a first term. Whitmer's national profile exploded during the beginning of the pandemic thanks to her harsh restrictions and public feud with then-president Donald Trump. Whitmer went on to ramp up those restrictions, which sparked large protests, particularly as the Democrat defied her own rules.

 

Whitmer's potential Republican opponents include political commentator Tudor Dixon, chiropractor Garrett Soldano, and businessman Kevin Rinke. Republican voters will choose their nominee during Michigan's August 2 primary.

A simple law of the Universe is that every being must experience that which they’ve created. So if you bring light, love, kindness to people, that is what you will attract more of. Congress Sends Gun Control Bill to Biden

 

The House sent President Joe Biden the most wide-ranging gun violence bill Congress has passed in decades on Friday, a measured compromise that at once illustrates progress on the long-intractable issue and the deep-seated partisan divide that persists.

 

The Democratic-led chamber approved the election-year legislation on a mostly party-line 234-193 vote, capping a spurt of action prompted by voters’ revulsion over last month’s mass shootings in New York and Texas. The night before, the Senate approved it by a bipartisan 65-33 margin, with 15 Republicans joining all Democrats in supporting a package that senators from both parties had crafted.

 

The bill would incrementally toughen requirements for young people to buy guns, deny firearms from more domestic abusers and help local authorities temporarily take weapons from people judged to be dangerous. Most of its $13 billion cost would go to bolster mental health programs and for schools, which have been targeted in Newtown, Connecticut, Parkland, Florida and many other infamous massacres.

 

And while it omits the far tougher restrictions Democrats have long championed, it stands as the most impactful gun violence measure that Congress has approved since it enacted a now-expired assault weapons ban nearly 30 years ago.

 

The legislation was a direct result of the slaying of 19 children and two teachers at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, exactly one month ago, and the killing of 10 Black shoppers days earlier in Buffalo, New York. Lawmakers returned from their districts after those shootings saying constituents were demanding congressional action, a vehemence many felt could not be ignored.

 

“No legislation can make their families or communities whole,” House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y.. said of those victims. “But we can act to keep others from facing the same trauma.”

 

For the conservatives who dominate Republicans in the House, it all came down to the Constitution’s Second Amendment right for people to have firearms, a protection that is key for many voters who own guns.

 

“Today they’re coming after our Second Amendment liberties, and who knows what it will be tomorrow,” said Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, the Judiciary panel’s top Republican.

 

Impossible to ignore was the juxtaposition of the week’s gun votes with a pair of jarring Supreme Court decisions on two of the nation’s most incendiary culture war issues. The justices on Thursday struck down a New York law that has restricted peoples’ ability to carry concealed weapons, and Friday it overturned Roe v. Wade, eliminating the protection for abortion that case had ensured for a half-century.

It is an unprecedented time for farmland sales. For young farmers, sky high land prices are preventing them from buying.

 

Since January 2021, Class A farmland prices in central Illinois have risen 35%, Luke Worrell of Worrell Land Services in Jacksonville told The Center Square.

 

Worrell works with the Illinois Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers and economists at the University of Illinois who track farmland prices. Every year, the society produces an extensive study of Illinois farmland values and leases for the previous year.

 

Class A acreage has the highest quality soil types and is 100% tillable. No matter what the quality of the farmland, however, prices have increased since January 2021, Worrell said.

 

“All other classes of land saw robust increases,” Worrell said.

 

Market indicators are still strong, but land sales traditionally slow down when crops go in. The number of transactions for the spring and summer have slowed down as they normally do, Worrell said. Commodity prices are still high, but so are input costs and the price of gas and oil and the price of machinery.

The UN is unable to verify accusations raised by Kiev against Moscow of “stealing” and exporting Ukrainian grain, Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, has said.

 

Asked about the claims by a reporter during a news briefing on Tuesday, Dujarric said that neither the UN Secretary-General’s office nor the UN World Food Programme (WFP) had any credible information on the matter.

 

“We’ve seen recent media reports, we’re talking to our colleagues at WFP. They have no way of verifying these allegations. I think WFP, as we all have, has been advocating for a free movement of food from the Black Sea to ensure that the needs of people around the world are met,” the official stated.

 

Ukraine has repeatedly accused Moscow of “stealing” its stockpiles of wheat amid the ongoing conflict that broke out in late February. Most recently, such accusations were flung at Russia by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey, Vasyl Bodnar.

 

“Russia shamelessly steals Ukrainian grain and sends it overseas from Crimea, including to Turkey,” Bodnar said on Friday, adding that Kiev has asked Ankara to “help resolve the issue.”

 

Ukraine and Western states alike have repeatedly accused Moscow of impeding grain exports by blocking Ukraine’s Black Sea ports, namely the major trade hub of Odessa. Russia, however, has rejected such claims, maintaining it was ready to ensure safe passage for grain-carrying vessels from the ports. The disruption of grain flow stems from Kiev’s own actions and extensive mining of the shoreline by the Ukrainian military, Moscow insists.

 

Russia attacked the neighboring state following Ukraine’s failure to implement the terms of the Minsk agreements, first signed in 2014, and Moscow’s eventual recognition of the Donbass republics of Donetsk and Lugansk. The German- and French-brokered protocols were designed to give the breakaway regions special status within the Ukrainian state.

California Plotting to Punish Medical Dissent

 

I will be heading to Sacramento next Monday to testify at a Senate committee hearing on California Assembly Bill 2098. The bill, sponsored by Senator Pan—who has been in Pharma’s back pocket for years and the source of much legislative health policy mischief in my home state—would give the medical board the authority to punish any physicians who challenge the safety and efficacy of covid vaccines.

 

This bill is advanced even as evidence continues to emerge of safety problems with the mRNA shots, including a study this week showing the vaccines lower sperm counts in men.

But this proposed measure seeks to enshrine in law “scientific” conclusions which are highly dubious:

 

All three of these statements are demonstrably false:

 

(a) The death count figures cited are grossly overestimated by hospitals failing to distinguish dying from covid vs. dying with covid and the financial incentives from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to overestimate covid deaths;

 

(b) the efficacy of vaccines has declined with time and new variants, so the statistic cited here is no longer true of the vaccines against omicron;

 

(c) the CDC has consistently failed to follow-up on serious safety signals, apart from myocarditis, and the post-marketing surveillance data acquired from our FOIA request showed serious safety issues in the first three months of vaccine rollout.

 

If this bill passes, any physician who raises these or other inconvenient scientific facts or study findings could be disciplined by the medical board, as the text of the bill explains:

 

“It shall constitute unprofessional conduct for a physician and surgeon to disseminate misinformation or disinformation related to COVID-19, including false or misleading information regarding the nature and risks of the virus, its prevention and treatment; and the development, safety, and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines.”

 

The supposed scientific “facts” mentioned in the bill make it clear just what information will be considered “misinformation” under this law. This bill will spell the end of scientific integrity and medical freedom in California. I worry that if it passes, other states could follow suit. As I have said before, California is the tip of the spear.

 

Here is the text of a letter I submitted last week to the committee where the bill is currently being reviewed:

RE: AB 2098: Physicians and Surgeons: Unprofessional Conduct – OPPOSE

 

As a licensed physician in California I strongly oppose the proposed California bill AB 2098 and urge you to vote no and oppose as well.

 

Advances in science and medicine typically occur when doctors and scientists challenge conventional thinking or settled opinion. This is the very nature of scientific progress. Fixating any current medical consensus as “unchallengeable” by physicians will stifle medical and scientific advances and give undue authority to a few gatekeepers who act as guardians of the consensus. As I testified in January at a U.S. Senate panel on Covid policy: “The scientific method suffered [during the pandemic] from a repressive academic and social climate of censorship and silencing of competing perspectives. This projected the false appearance of a scientific consensus—a ‘consensus’ often strongly influenced by economic and political interests.”

 

One need only look at the last two years to see how frequently public health recommendations and consensus thinking about Covid changed from one month to the next with the advent of new information. It was frontline ICU physicians who discovered and spoke out about bad outcomes when patients were prematurely placed on ventilators. This shifted the consensus in the direction of avoiding ventilation as much as possible. Likewise, it was frontline physicians who discovered that placing covid patients face-down in the prone position while they were ventilated could improve outcomes, challenging another consensus. Both of these advances came by way of challenging the way things were currently being done. Other physicians challenged the early consensus, which did not recommend the use of steroids to treat Covid. Eventually, this dissenting opinion gained ground and now represents conventional thinking: corticosteroids for critically ill covid patients are now standard care. Many other examples regarding guidelines on masks, social distancing, and other Covid policies could be cited here.

Firm merging with Trump's Truth Social parent company faces grand jury subpoenas

 

Digital World Acquisition Corp, the special purpose acquisition company planning on merging with Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), announced Monday that each member of its board of directors received federal grand jury subpoenas.

 

The company said that the subponas, along with the federal investigations from the Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), could delay or prevent the merger between Digital World and TMTG.

 

Digital World board of directors members received the subpoenas from the Southern District of New York jury on June 16. Like the previous SEC subpoena, the grand jury asked for the members to provide "various documents and information regarding, among other things, Digital World’s due diligence regarding TMTG [and] communications regarding and due diligence of potential targets other than TMTG."

 

The jury also requested information about the company's filings and communications with Rocket One Capital, Digital World stated in the SEC form.

 

Bruce Garelick, Rocket One Capital's chief strategy officer, according to Reuters, resigned from Digital World's board of directors.

 

Digital World said last week that it was on track to merge with TMTG, the parent company of Truth Social. This would allow Trump's technology business to be publicly traded.

The very fact that life-expectancies declined, at all, is extraordinary. For example, the site ourworldindata.org says that, between the years 1800 and 2012, life-expectancies increased in all countries. And according to the U.N., which has tracked nations’ life-expectancies in five-year intervals ever since 1950, up until 2020, global life-expectancies increased from 46.96 years during the five-year period 1950-1955, to 72.28 years during the five-year period 2015-2020; and, so, life-expectancies were clearly soaring throughout that 1950-2020 period. But, it might now be over.

The Army of God Manual is an anonymous document which was written by anti-abortionist members of the AOG and it is widely endorsed by them. According to the AOG website, the manual "is not to be construed as sanctioning any group or individual to perform any action.”[26]

 

The book, which consists of eight chapters and various appendices, delves into various pillars of their ideology and it is essentially a road map on how to commit violence against abortion clinics, abortion providers, and individuals who are associated with abortion. Parts of the book, specifically the appendices of chapters four, five and six, are not available for public consumption on the group's website due to federal laws. It is now in its third edition and the group refers to it as a historical document.[27]

 

The manual is available in its near entirety on the AOG's website which was formerly run by Donald Spitz. Spitz has no history of criminal activity, but he has historically used the website to publish short bios of high profile group members, publish anti-abortion propaganda, post photos of what are claimed to be bloody unborn fetuses that were aborted and he uses the website as a means to justify the actions of the group and incite others to support the Army of God and agree with what it stands for.[28]

Trump slams McCarthy over lack of GOP involvement on Jan. 6 committee

Former President Donald Trump has blasted a “very foolish” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) over the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot — saying the lack of Republican participation was a “bad decision.”

 

The 45th president told conservative radio host Wayne Allyn Root on Sunday that McCarthy’s decision to shun the committee was not the right call.

 

“Unfortunately, a bad decision was made. This committee — it was a bad decision not to have representation on this committee. That was a very, very foolish decision,” Trump said, accusing the panel of conducting a “one-sided witch hunt.”

 

While there are two Republican members of Congress on the panel — Reps. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois — Trump has continuously accused them of being “RINOs,” or Republicans in name only, for failing to back his false claims of massive voter fraud.

 

“We have no representation on this panel,” Trump said earlier in the interview. “We should certainly have some Republicans, real Republicans … We have nobody on that panel who can fight back.”

 

“In a way, the Republicans should be ashamed of themselves.”

 

A representative for McCarthy did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

 

The former president has not shied away from expressing his frustration privately, recently saying, “I don’t know why Kevin didn’t put anyone on the committee,” according to CNN, which cited a GOP source with direct knowledge of the comments.

 

Trump doubled down on his remarks Wednesday, telling Punchbowl News it “would have been good” if there were increased Republican representation on the committee.

“Well, I think in retrospect, I think it would have been very smart to put [Republicans on the committee] and again, I wasn’t involved in it from a standpoint so I never looked at it too closely. But I think it would have been good if we had representation.” Trump said.

 

“I think in retrospect [McCarthy should’ve put Republicans on] to just have a voice. The Republicans don’t have a voice. They don’t even have anything to say,” he continued.

 

Trump suggested that Republican Reps. Jim Banks of Indiana and Jim Jordan of Ohio would have been good additions to the panel.

 

“But when [House Speaker Nancy] Pelosi wrongfully didn’t allow them, we should’ve picked other people,” Trump said. “We have a lot of good people in the Republican Party.”

 

In July 2021, Pelosi (D-Calif.) rejected McCarthy’s Republican nominations to the Jan. 6 committee, citing concerns about statements Banks and Jordan had made in the past.

 

“With respect for the integrity of the investigation, with an insistence on the truth and with concern about statements made and actions taken by these Members, I must reject the recommendations of Representatives Banks and Jordan to the Select Committee,” she said at the time.

Stigma of Masculinity

In the midst of these societal changes, masculinity has gained a stigma. In the process of society accepting sharing and exchanging roles, they have demonized traditional masculine traits. Traits like protectiveness, competitiveness, assertiveness, deference to truth over feeling, and more are now considered toxic. Men expressing these traits now get pushback from society.

 

Men are pushed more and more to discard traditional masculinity and adopted a redefined version of it. Young men can’t escape this as it has bled into every aspect of their lives. TV shows, video games, and even their activities. Mentors are one of the best ways to help young men with their own identities. Most of these mentors come from

 

The Disappearance of Boys Clubs

For a long time, youth clubs have been supporting young children and their growth. These clubs provide mentorship that help guide children in life. Amongst these youth clubs, some are exclusive to boys or girls. However, many are changing. One of the biggest losses was the Boy Scouts of America. Since 1910, the Boy Scouts mentored young men to “help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.”

 

However, the Boy Scouts were hit with controversy after controversy in the 2010s. The scouts, which were exclusive to boys and young men, were no longer allowed to be for just boys. By 2017, the Boy Scouts for America no longer existed. Instead, they were just scouts as girls were now accepted into the club. There is nothing wrong with co-ed organizations. Yet, these co-ed organizations are being created at the expense of removing boy-oriented clubs; A place where boys can explore and figure out their place and role in society.

 

Again, something had to be done in the case of the Boy Scouts with its rampant abuse. Now, we don’t know enough to debate its current curriculum, but there still is a Girls Scouts that is exclusive to girls. So, isn’t it fair to wonder what is being lost in the transition?

 

In society’s misguided attempt at one-size-fits-all equality, many boys are left with no mentorship about what it means to be a good man. With the combination of society demonizing masculinity and the removal of male-oriented organizations and mentorship, young men are becoming disaffected and the consequences of this are horrifying.

 

The Disaffected Youth

The alienation of young men is having a catastrophic effect. In the United States, this is leading young men towards “deaths from despair.” Drug overdoses, alcoholism, and suicides are at an all-time high among men. Suicides rates for men are 3x higher than for women, noting loneliness and a sense of alienation. Young men are feeling no longer welcomed as they are.

 

The number of murders and crime rates is also rising. It has gotten to the point that the demographic profile for mass shooters and terrorists is men between the ages of 20-30. Social isolation is fueling youth crime rates, especially among young men.

 

In addition, 2 to 4x the number of trans-women (MTF) than trans-men (FTM). In our research, comments on transitioning trends were highly censored according to other comments. However, we think it's fair to ask if some of the growth and disparity might be related to them being disaffected youth.

 

Helping Young Men

Something has to change. There needs to be a correction to these notions of masculinity being toxic. Although people argue otherwise, it is important to allow children to socialize with their own sex and gender. Teaching traditional roles to young men like being a good father and husband needs to be encouraged. They need better mentorship and role models to help them establish their place in this world.

 

Society (and common sense) tells us that young women should learn to be strong and independent. In the same vein, we shouldn’t assume young men are born that way. Too many appear lost and left to their own devices.

BARCELONA (Reuters) -The body of software entrepreneur John McAfee remains in a Spanish morgue a year after his death as a legal case lodged by his family to demand further checks is yet to be resolved, authorities and his lawyer said.

McAfee, who launched the world's first commercial anti-virus software in 1987, was found dead, aged 75, on June 23 last year in his prison cell a few hours after Spain's high court authorised his extradition to the United States on tax evasion charges.

The British-American mogul had been jailed in the Barcelona-area Brians 2 jail for eight months following his arrest after years on the run from U.S. authorities.

The autopsy determined he died by suicide. Prison authorities said he had already attempted to kill himself four months before dying.

Shortly after his death, McAfee's widow said he was not suicidal and that she would seek "answers."

"It's difficult to put into words what life has been like this past year," Janice McAfee tweeted on Thursday, calling on users to sign an online petition "to help pressure" Spanish authorities to release McAfee's remains.

The petition, signed by 1,365 people so far, calls for an independent autopsy "to determine if the official cause of death can be challenged or investigated privately".

McAfee's family considered the original autopsy to be incomplete and asked for further checks, which were denied by a local judge, said the late entrepreneur's lawyer Javier Villalba on Wednesday. The family appealed that decision.

A judge then ruled that McAfee's body could not be handed to the family until their appeal was resolved, the lawyer said.

Catalonia's court system did not reply to a request for comment.

The corpse remains at the same Barcelona morgue where the autopsy was conducted, said a spokesperson for the regional government's justice department, adding that it was uncommon for identified bodies reclaimed by their families to be stored for such a long time.

CNN’s Brian Stelter and former ABC News correspondent Mara Shiavocampo claim Fox News and Carlson enticed the Buffalo to kill by igniting controversy around the “replacement theory.”

Morales, who governed Bolivia for nearly 14 years, claimed there was a coup against his government.

 

MAS returned to power in October 2020, winning the general election. Bolivia’s current president, Luis Arce, is a MAS member.

 

Anez was arrested in March 2021. During the trial, she argued that she had “followed every step” of the constitution when assuming power in 2019. “I feel very proud and I would have done it again if I had the opportunity,” she said.

 

The politician went on a two-week hunger strike while in pre-trial detention and was briefly hospitalized several times due to health concerns. In February, she tried to take her own life due to “severe depression,” according to Anez’s daughter, Carolina Ribera.

 

On Friday, the court also sentenced former police general Yuri Calderon and former military chief Williams Kaliman Romero to 10 years in jail in connection to the 2019 events. They are both fugitives.

Indiana town cancels drag show advertised as 'family-friendly' after one post from Libs of TikTok

 

The popular "Libs of TikTok" account caused the cancellation of a drag show in Jasper, Indiana, that was advertised as "family-friendly."

 

The drag show was a part of an event dubbed as "Pride in the Park" and organized by the Dubois County Pride committee in conjunction with the city of Jasper.

 

Libs of TikTok posted a screenshot of the advertisement from the group and noted that they encouraged children of all ages to attend, and also asked for everyone to bring money to give to the drag show performers.

 

The tweet garnered nearly a thousand retweets and more than 3.6k likes on Twitter.

 

On Wednesday, the group announced in a Facebook post that the drag show was cancelled.

 

"We regretfully announce that due to safety and security concerns, the family-friendly drag performance planned for Pride in the Park has been cancelled," read the statement.

 

"This decision was jointly made by the City of Jasper, ONE- Dubois County, and the Dubois County Pride committee," the statement continued. "While the Dubois County Pride committee is disappointed by this development, we are in no way deterred. Our mission to promote and advocate love and equality remains steadfast."
