I'm surprised your SF friend wasn't both. I can't say I have ever known one who wasn't. When I signed up for it my orders were cut for both after 52 weeks SF training, then Ranger at Ft Stewart for I think 13 weeks. I wound up caught in a stop movement, got deployed as I hadn't actually signed my papers yet and decided to not reenlist after Somalia. I can still walk and dudes I know who went airborne all have fucked up knees. I'm glad I didn't do it.
