I escaped to booze when I was 25. Coping mechanism for dealing with my mother dying. Before this, I smoked weed once in a while, never felt the need to do anything else.
Alcohol provided a better escape and shut my mind down to "thinking". Be it reality or dealing with heart ache. It's been quite a while now…years.
I am a recovering alcoholic, I have been sober for almost 3 years. I have weed to thank.
Is it a crutch? Probably. But, well, as Bill Hicks said, I suggest before you judge, you look around in the world which we live in…and shit your fucking mouth.
The world is a horrible place when you learn about it. And I;m a loner with no family and very few friends. My upbringing wasnt the best and all of my friends from my childhood, teens, 20's and 30's are dead, in jail, or screwed up on hardcore drugs. Very few made it through.
So when someone belittles about weed, I find it annoying.
#1. I've considered suicide many times when I was drunk. I have not considered it once high on weed.
#2 It's opened my mind to different ways of thinking and helped me understand things here and other digs - that normally I would be too narrow minded for.
I don't know weed's ultimate "is it good or bad" I just know for me, it helps. Life sucks, we need pick me up's wherever we can get them.

I work 40 hours a week, own my own home, getting married in a few months, pay my bills and do not have any sort of police record. I also smoke several times a day.

Alcohol made me much more sociable and able to be more outgoing, that was the only positive for me. Thank you for the response. Survival mode for a long time now. It's all I know at this point honestly.
