Children are innocent! That’s why they target children. Also, between the ages of 6 and 18 a human being’s soul is up for grabs so to speak. They are weakest when they are young. The lies are believed because at that age we are designed to trust our adults, told to trust certain people. Which happens to be the people who want to hurt you at that young age.
