At least three killed, 10 injured in mass shooting in Philadelphia

At least three people were killed and 10 people more wounded in a mass shooting in Philadelphia late Saturday night, police said.

 

Gunfire erupted in the cityโ€™s bustling South Street neighborhood near 3rd Street shortly before midnight, Philadelphia police told WPVI.

 

Police had responded to a 911 call of an individual with a gun in a large crowd. Upon arrival, police saw a male firing into a crowd of people, cops said.

 

The responding officer fired his service weapon three times at the suspect, police said. Itโ€™s unclear if he was hit.

 

The suspect was hit by gunfire in the arm The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. Itโ€™s not clear if he was struck by police.

 

Cops said two of the deceased include a 25-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, the newspaper said.

 

Seven victims were taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, including one of the deceased victims.

 

Five others were taken to Pennsylvania Hospital, including the suspect, police told the newspaper.

 

Three other victims were taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

 

The conditions of the victims were not immediately available. No officers were injured, according to police.

 

Joe Smith, 23, was waiting outside of the Theatre of the Living Arts on South Street when shots were fired just 10 feet from the venue, he told the Inquirer.

 

โ€Once it started I didnโ€™t think it was going to stop,โ€ Smith said. โ€œThere was guttural screaming. I just heard screams.โ€

 

He told the paper he instantly thought of the recent mass shootings in Uvalde, Texas and Buffalo, New York once he heard gunshots.

 

No arrests have been made at this time. Cops said a gun was recovered at the scene.

 

โ€œSeveral people have been injured. Please avoid the area,โ€ the Philadelphia Police Department said just before 1 a.m. Sunday morning.

New Gulf Of Mexico Oil Refinery Opens

 

By Adriana Barrera (Reuters) Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador formally opened a major new oil refinery on Friday, a signature project for the leftist leader who argues it will help the country cut a longstanding dependence on foreign gasoline and diesel supplies.

 

The Olmeca refinery owned and operated by state-run oil company Pemex is billions of dollars over budget and still under construction, but that did not stop Lopez Obrador from headlining a splashy inauguration ceremony at the facility built just off the Gulf coast port of Dos Bocas in his home state of Tabasco.

 

In a speech, Lopez Obrador dismissed critics who argue that fossil fuels should no longer be part of Mexicoโ€™s energy future, while also criticizing past governments for failing to build a new refinery in nearly four decades.

 

โ€œDuring all this time, they bet on selling crude oil and then buying gasoline, diesel, and other fuels in foreign lands,โ€ said Lopez Obrador.

 

But officials have said the Olmeca refinery likely will not be ready to start producing motor fuels until 2023, as months of testing are necessary once construction is complete.

 

Lopez Obrador himself recently conceded the facility will end up costing between $11 billion-12 billion, not the roughly $8 billion he originally set as its maximum cost. Read full story

Two people familiar with the matter recently told Reuters the new refinery will only be running near capacity in 2025.

The president, a leftist resource nationalist, argues that the refinery can help wean Mexico off of imported motor fuels, almost all of which is supplied by U.S. refiners, which he says undermines the countryโ€™s sovereignty. He also believes the refinery can better protect Mexican motoristsโ€™ wallets from the volatility of the international oil market.

 

The refinery, with a top crude processing capacity of 340,000 barrels per day, will be Pemexโ€™s largest once it comes online.

 

In separate remarks prior to the presidentโ€™s speech, Pemex Chief Executive Octavio Romero said the Salina Cruz refinery in Oaxaca, currently Pemexโ€™s biggest, will also be upgraded to include a major new coking plant, which is needed to more efficiently process heavy crude into higher-value fuels.

 

Currently, only three of Pemexโ€™s fully-operational domestic refineries feature coking plants.

 

Romero said construction company ICA Fluor has been awarded a turnkey contract for the Salina Cruz coking plant, which he said will come online in 12 months.

 

The Pemex boss did not detail the additional cost needed for the project, only that $1.4 billion had already been spent before it was suspended for six years.

Here are the questions: Is President Joe Biden corrupt? Is his son Hunter corrupt? That, of course, is for due process to decide.

 

However, those in the legacy news media have displayed their corruption by refusing to deal with the issue. Even far leftist Bill Maher has noted that.

The latest coming from Laptop Land is Hunter Biden early in 2017 receiving a request from a Chinese business associate to have a college admission letter written for the associateโ€™s son, Fox News Digital reported.

 

That associate, Jonathan Li, has ties to the Chinese Communist Party. He was CEO of the investment firm BHR, in which Hunter Biden held a 10 percent stake as recently as last year.

 

The letter of recommendation was written by Joe Biden, who at that time was vice president. Joe Bidenโ€™s letter was then FedExed to Christina Paxson, president of Brown University, according to the emails. That transmission was made after Biden was out of office. Itโ€™s unclear when Biden wrote the letter.

 

Citing privacy concerns, Brown University refused to say if the son, Christopher Li, became a student there.

 

A Fox Digital query about the emails surrounding the letter of recommendation prompted Batesโ€™ response about not commenting on the laptop.

 

And White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, when asked if President Bidenโ€™s statement that he never spoke to his son about Hunterโ€™s overseas dealings still stood, responded in the affirmative. But Senators Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson have revealed documents linking the Biden family with โ€œcorrupt actors,โ€ according to Fox host Maria Bartiromo.

 

Jonathan Turley, a George Washington University law professor, told Fox that the news media have no choice but to report on the laptop since Hunter Biden is at risk of being indicted by the federal attorney in Delaware.

 

The media are โ€œwilling to recognize the authenticity of the laptop now,โ€ Turley said.

 

โ€œBut they donโ€™t really want to talk about whatโ€™s on the laptop, which are hundreds and thousands of emails and pictures, some of which refer to the president of the United States,โ€ And while the White House and media may concede Hunter Biden was involved in high dollar influence selling, they say thereโ€™s no connection to Joe Biden.

Those were the words of the Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, one of the most powerful elected officials in the nation, in March of 2020. After spending years cynically delegitimizing the high court, Schumer had moved to openly threatening life-time appointed judges, by name, because he feared they would knock down the concocted constitutional right to an abortion.

 

Initially, Schumer refused to walk back those remarks. His spokesman ludicrously claimed the statement was โ€œa reference to the political price Republicans will pay for putting them on the court.โ€ Of course, the senator hadnโ€™t singled out the Republican Party, or any Republican. He called out the two newest justices by name. โ€œYouโ€ and โ€œyou.โ€

 

Yet, it is almost surely the case that the coverage of a California man carrying a weapon and burglary equipment near Brett Kavanaughโ€™s home, reportedly there to murder the Supreme Court justice over the leaked opinion in Dobbs, will not be tied to the rhetoric of Democrats like Schumer. CNN political reporters will not walk from one Democratic senator to the next, asking them if their rhetoric is responsible for inciting a man to show up at the Supreme Court justiceโ€™s home with a tactical knife, a Glock, ammunition, pepper spray, and zip ties. We will not have a national conversation about the specter of leftist violence.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) โ€” Forty-eight people died after being abandoned in a tractor-trailer in the sweltering Texas heat, one of the worst tragedies to claim the lives of migrants smuggled across the border from Mexico to the U.S. Sixteen people were hospitalized, including four children.

 

A city worker heard a cry for help from the truck on a lonely San Antonio back road shortly before 6 p.m. Monday and discovered the gruesome scene, Police Chief William McManus said. Hours later, body bags lay spread on the ground near the trailer and bodies remained inside as authorities responded to the calamity.

 

Forty-six people were found dead near the scene, authorities said, and two more people later died at a hospital, said Patti Tanner, a spokesperson at Baptist Health System in San Antonio.

 

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg said those who died had โ€œfamilies who were likely trying to find a better life.โ€

 

โ€œThis is nothing short of a horrific human tragedy,โ€ Nirenberg said.

 

Itโ€™s among the deadliest of the tragedies that have claimed thousands of lives in recent decades as people attempt to cross the U.S. border from Mexico. Ten migrants died in 2017 after being trapped inside a truck parked at a Walmart in San Antonio. In 2003, the bodies of 19 migrants were found in a sweltering truck southeast of San Antonio.

Chevron Hits Back, Says Biden Trying To "Impose Obstacles" To Energy Delivery

 

Chevron has hit back at the Biden administration, claiming that their policies since January 2021 have sent a message that it aims to "impose obstacles to our industry delivering energy resources the world needs," according to Bloomberg's Annmarie Hordern, citing a statement by the company.

 

Chevron says they plan to boost production in the Permian basin by more than 15% this year, while its overall upstream capital investments in the US have climbed 35% in the last year.

 

What's more, Chevron's US refineries are operational, and input grew to 915k b/d on average in Q1, vs 881k b/d the same quarter a year ago.

 

The statement comes after the Biden administration set out on a blame campaign - telling Americans that high prices at the pump are due to corporate greed by oil companies, and not his administration's haphazard energy policies. The new offensive included a letter to Big Oil execs threatening them with forced production quotas, windfall taxes, and/or price-caps.

 

The latest dust-up comes less than two weeks after Chevron CEO Mike Wirth told Bloomberg TV that there will "never be another refinery built in the US" thanks to the state of policies around the world towards fossil fuels.

Not all 501C should be put down. I was a VP of a band boosters and a Football boosters. I got no problem with parents being able to write off supporting their kids extracurricular activities in school.

Don't get me wrong. There are ones that need a good looking at but there are about 2,000,000 that serve a vital purpose.
