Or maybe yesterday was a marker or a precipice? Since the SCOTUS decision yesterday the left has pretty much declared war on the entire country. House and Senate leaders saying they won’t recognize the decision, and even the Pentagon saying they are going to ignore it? How did that go for us when we wanted to “ignore” the SCOTUS decisions on Obamacare or vaccines (yes I know SCOTUS said employers didn’t have to mandate the vax but they stopped short with healthcare employers, 1/7 of the entire economy)? If people in positions of leadership at the highest levels decide not to abide by a SCOTUS decision, aren’t we then technically at war, or something like that? This isBIG! I don’t think this is going to fade away soon or that the rabid left is just going to move on.

A former Utah County prosecuting attorney is speaking out against her former boss, Utah County Attorney David Leavitt. This comes one day after six former prosecutors from that office issued a public declaration of no confidence in Leavitt. Kelsy Young is one of them. Their letter said collectively they have served the citizens of Utah County for 111 years.

 

Young and the rest of the former prosecutors who wrote the declaration contend they left the office “prematurely” blaming it on Leavitt’s prosecution policies and procedures established since his election in 2018. Young worked there for seven years and made it clear she’s no longer afraid to speak out during an on-camera interview with 2News Investigates.

 

We asked Young, “As a prosecutor you seek justice, that's what drives you. Did he drive you out of this office?”

 

She said, “I would have never left but for Leavitt’s policies.”

 

Young, Curtis Larson, Sherry Ragan, Lance Bastian, Mariane O’Bryant, and Lauren Hunt wrote that they were united in presenting this public declaration of no confidence in David Leavitt’s “capability and competence to perform his constitutional and statutory duties as the lead criminal prosecutor in Utah County.”

 

“It's an absolute standstill of justice, walk away from what he's supposed to do, he's turned his back on that office,” Young said.

We, the undersigned, are former criminal prosecutors in your County Attorney’s Office. Collectively we served you for a total of 111 years. And though we come from different backgrounds, and hold to differing political philosophies, we’re united in two distinct ways: First, we all prematurely left your County Attorney’s Office as a result of the prosecution policies and procedures David Leavitt established since his election in 2018; and, Second, we are united in presenting this public declaration of no confidence in David Leavitt’s capability and competence to perform his constitutional and statutory duties as the lead criminal prosecutor in Utah County. We declare that Mr. Leavitt has vacated his responsibilities to provide you safety and protection in your person and property by failing to enforce criminal laws against offenders and by prioritizing the protection of criminals from the lawful consequences of their misconduct. Legislative language submitted by Congressman McNerney earlier this year recently passed key committees in both the U.S. House and Senate and is on track for consideration by Congress.

 

“This is a significant step forward for the Tracy solar project,” said Rep. McNerney. “For more than a year now, I’ve pushed hard for Congress to consider and approve the solar project. We’re now one step closer. Using the Schulte Road property for clean energy development has great economic potential for a community that is hard hit by the tough economy. Investing in this type of job creation project is key to our area’s economic recovery. I’ll keep fighting for jobs in Tracy and the solar project as it moves onto the next part of the process.”

 

The City of Tracy is seeking to purchase the Schulte Road land for use as the site of a solar electricity-generation project. The 200-acre property was previously conveyed to the City of Tracy by Congress with the condition that 150 acres be used for recreational or educational purposes. The language submitted by Congressman McNerney, and supported by the City of Tracy, waives any remaining restrictions on the land’s use once it is purchased by the City. The City estimates that construction of the project will bring 200 jobs to San Joaquin County.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11) introduced the Solar Energy Deployment Act of 2012 to provide funding for state and local governments to install solar energy systems over rooftops and parking structures.

 

“Investing in clean energy at the state and local level will save money for all of California. In today’s economy, we need to do everything we can to be more efficient and cut costs,” said Rep. McNerney. “By making new solar grants available, we can meet our energy needs while putting less strain on our electrical grid.”

 

The Solar Energy Deployment Act, H.R. 4622, allows the U.S. Secretary of Energy to award competitive grants to state and local governments for installing solar equipment over rooftops and parking structures. Recipients of the funds could design and install solar energy systems over structures they own.

 

The secretary would have the authority to take into consideration several factors in deciding who would receive the grants, including:

 

Speed with which solar systems can be deployed

Total amount of solar energy deployed

The financial need of the state or local government

The use of best practices to ensure maximum efficiency of deployed systems

Whether or not the materials to be used are manufactured in the U.S. and whether their components are manufactured in the U.S.

 

“In order to meet our economic challenges, we have always relied on American ingenuity. Solar initiatives will save California in electrical costs and put people to work building the solar systems. Putting emphasis on American-manufactured products will create good jobs and allow people to earn a real living,” said Rep. McNerney.

The city of Tracy will be allowed to purchase a 200-acre tract of land from the federal government to build a solar energy project after a bill passed giving the stalled deal the green light.

 

U.S. Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Turlock, on Wednesday said the president approved the Tracy land conveyance bill, which waived use restrictions on the land.

Denham said the project will help create jobs in California's Central Valley, one of the most economically hard hit areas in the nation.

Relationship between blood type and outcomes following COVID-19 infection

 

Blood type has been identified as a risk factor in many disease processes, ranging from malignancy to venous and arterial thromboembolism. The most widely studied associations, however, have been in the realm of infectious diseases. Blood group antigens play a direct role in infection through various mechanisms. On a molecular level, they can serve as receptors and coreceptors for pathogens; and can also facilitate intracellular uptake of viral particles. Clinically, blood types have been linked to bacterial, parasitic, and viral infections

 

Eight of 9 studies demonstrated an association between blood type and susceptibility to infection with SARS-CoV-2. Four of these 9 studies also revealed an association with severity of illness. Ray et al [21] found that subjects with type O and Rh-negative blood were protected from viral infection, severe illness, and mortality.

 

All studies were limited

 

an increased risk of infection with type A blood.

 

Four of 5 studies found significant associations with Rh-negative blood grouping. Both Ray et al [21] and Zietz et al [23] found that subjects with Rh-negative blood type were at lower risk of viral infection, severe illness, and mortality after infection. Our study, along with Leaf et al's [19], also found that Rh-negative subjects were at lower risk of infection, but did not find any impact on COVID-19–related illness or mortality. Although overall results might be mixed, there is a consistent theme on Rh-type and susceptibility to COVID-19 infection.

 

As mentioned previously, Hoiland et al [17] reported an association with blood types A and AB with worse clinical outcomes

 

Many studies report that blood type A might predispose one to increased susceptibility of infection with SARS-CoV-2, and type O and Rh-negative blood groups might be protective. Although this appears to be an emerging trend, the impact of blood type on clinical outcomes remains unclear.

 

 

Testing the association between blood type and COVID-19 infection, intubation, and death

 

Recent evidence suggests blood type may affect risk of severe COVID-19. We used observational healthcare data on 14,112 individuals tested for SARS-CoV-2 with known blood type in the New York Presbyterian (NYP) hospital system to assess the association between ABO and Rh blood types and infection, intubation, and death. We found slightly increased infection prevalence among non-O types. Risk of intubation was decreased among A and increased among AB and B types, compared with type O, while risk of death was increased for type AB and decreased for types A and B. We estimated Rh-negative blood type to have a protective effect for all three outcomes. Our results add to the growing body of evidence suggesting blood type may play a role in COVID-19.

 

In this study we found evidence for associations between ABO and Rh blood groups and COVID-19. Using data from NYP/CUIMC, we found moderately increased infection prevalence among non-O blood types and among Rh-positive individuals. Intubation risk was increased among AB and B types, and decreased among A and Rh-negative types. The advice came in a legal alert on Friday to “all California district attorneys, police chiefs, sheriffs, county counsels and city attorneys” and follows a U.S. Supreme Court decision on Thursday overturning New York State’s “proper cause” requirement.

 

“It is the Attorney General’s view that the court’s decision renders California’s good

cause standard to secure a permit to carry a concealed weapon in most public places

unconstitutional,” wrote Bonta. “Permitting agencies may no longer require a demonstration of good cause.”

New Zealand designates Proud Boys a terrorist organisation, says group played key role in US Capitol attack

 

New Zealand's government has declared that American far-right groups the Proud Boys and The Base are terrorist organisations.

Key points:

 

NZ officials say the Proud Boys involvement in the attack on the US Capitol amounted to an act of terrorism

They say a key goal of The Base is to "train a cadre of extremists capable of 'accelerationist' violence"

The Proud Boys are now banned in Canada and New Zealand, while The Base are banned in the UK, Canada, Australia and NZ

 

The two groups join 18 others, including Islamic State, that have been given an official terrorist designation, making it illegal in New Zealand to fund, recruit or participate in the groups, and obligating authorities to take action against them.

 

The US groups are not known to be active in New Zealand, although the South Pacific nation has become more attuned to threats from the far right after a white supremacist shot and killed 51 Muslim worshippers at two Christchurch mosques in 2019.

 

The New Zealand massacre inspired other white supremacists around the world, including a white gunman who killed 10 black people at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York.

 

In the US, the State Department only lists foreign groups as terrorist entities.

 

But the Proud Boys were last year named a terrorist group in Canada, and The Base has previously been declared a terrorist group in Britain, Canada and Australia.

 

In a 29-page explanation of the Proud Boys' designation published on Thursday, New Zealand authorities said the group's involvement in the violent attack on the US Capitol building on January 6, 2021, amounted to an act of terrorism.

The statement said that while several militia groups were involved, it was the Proud Boys who incited crowds, coordinated attacks on law enforcement officers and led other rioters to where they could break into the building.

 

The statement said there were unlinked but ideologically affiliated chapters of the Proud Boys operating in Canada and Australia.

Three Navy commanders relieved of duty in the past week

 

The ousters include the head of the Navy's boot camp and training base.

 

The leader of the Navy’s Recruit Training Command is out of the job, the latest in a string of firings in June. The Navy announced on Saturday, June 11 that Capt. Jeffry Sandin was relieved of his duty by Rear Adm. Jennifer Couture, head of Naval Service Training Command.

 

Capt. Kertreck Brooks, the chief of staff for the overarching Naval Service Training Command was named as the new interim head of the Recruit Training Command. The Navy did not get into specifics, but said that the NSTC lost confidence in Sandin.

 

The Navy’s Recruit Training Command base in Great Lakes, IL, is the basic training center for the service. It originally opened in 1911 and has been the sole recruit training base since 1994. The base just held its latest boot camp graduation ceremony on Friday, June 10, with 417 new sailors graduating into the service. Brooks was the special guest at the ceremony.

 

The replacement of Sandin is the Navy’s third high-profile removal from a post in the past week. On Friday, Cmdr. Devine Johnson was relieved of command of the destroyer Bulkeley by the commodore of Destroyer Squadron 2. Johnson had taken over the ship in August 2021 after serving as the executive officer. Capt. William Harkin, Destroyer Squadron 2’s deputy commander, took over the Bulkeley in the interim. Command Master Chief Earl Sanders was also relieved alongside Johnson. Loss of confidence in their leadership was cited as the reason. The term can have many meanings, from a literal one to shorthand for major screw ups by those in command. The Navy did not disclose further details on the situation.

 

And on Wednesday, June 8, the Navy relieved the commander of Electronics Attack Squadron 137, which is part of the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group. Cmdr. Matthew McCormick had led “The Rooks” since September 2021; the squadron operates EA-18G Growlers. Again the Navy cited a loss of confidence. USNI News reports that it was in part for inappropriate behavior that is still being investigated.

 

This past week’s firings come as the Navy is dealing with staffing, equipment and morale challenges. Desertions are up, with double the number of sailors deserting in 2021 over 2020. Barracks repairs at Naval Air Station Key West in Florida left sailors having to find their own expensive off-base housing. The USS George Washington saw nearly a dozen deaths in the last year, with at least one being a suicide; three other cases are being investigated as potential suicides.

 

The Navy is also trying to streamline its operating costs, in part by possibly getting rid of nine Freedom-class Littoral Combat Ships it is set to decommission. There have also been serious accidents; of the five aviation crashes in the last two weeks, two involved Navy vehicles and one was fatal.

Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine Impacts Semen: Study

 

Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine leads to lower levels of semen, according to a new study.

 

Researchers analyzed 220 samples of semen from three sperm banks in Israel, drawn from men who received two doses of the vaccine. The semen collection was scheduled seven days after receipt of the second dose.

 

The researchers, led by Dr. Itai Gat with the Sperm Bank and Andrology Unit at the Shamir Medical Center and Tel Aviv University’s Sackler Medical School, found that there was a decrease in sperm concentration between 75 and 120 days post-vaccination.

 

The decrease led to a reduction in the motile count, or the number of sperm.

 

Followup testing completed over 150 days after vaccination revealed “overall recovery,” with semen volume and sperm motility bouncing back, the researchers said. However, the levels outlined in the study were still lower than before vaccination.
