>How many expert shooters do we have out there?
Over 125,000 NRA certified instuctors, RSO's, Coaches and Counselors.
Over 11,000 NRA matches/year
Add in Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays, USPSA, IDPA, Action Pistol, Silhouette, Service Rifle, Benchrest, Black Powder, Cowboy Action, Steel Challenge, 3 Gun Competition, Long Range Tactical etc, There are around 8 million competitive shooters in the U.S.

There are also at least 14 million hunters in the U.S over age 16.
Gun owners outnumber hunters by a factor of 17/1.

Over 30 million Americans are casual target shooters.

All of these groups of shooters own equipment, have ammunition, and show involvement that is likely indicative of their competence.
Sooo my best guess would be 40-60 million Americans with more than casual skill that could be brought up to expert/near expert in very short order.
