The truth of it is they work many more hours than 10 a day, there's a lot of travel and a boss up your ass, so add extra hours to get your paperwork (documentation) in order. In a paperless system (kek) for those extra reviews.
Thanks to SCOTUS, you only protect yourself if assigned to accompany a Revenue Officer out in the field to a potentially dangerous individual. They just make sure they aren't standing too close to the RO so they're never in danger. If the RO gets shot, oh well… just moar paperwork.
Re: Lois Lerner- if history serves as a guide, she "retired" to a super cushy Analyst job in DC. They all do it, the pay is insanely great.
