EXCLUSIVE: Illegal Migrants Deny Being ‘Tricked’ Into Getting On Buses To DC, NYC

Illegal migrants bused from the southern border to Washington, D.C, denied that they’re being “tricked” into boarding the buses, several of them told the Daily Caller News Foundation, contradicting claims made by the mayors of D.C. and New York City.

Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser earlier criticized Republican Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey and Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott,who’s also sending buses to Washington, saying the migrants are being “tricked” into getting on the buses. New York City Mayor Eric Adams echoedBowser’s claim that the migrants were “tricked,” saying that they were “forced” to board the buses.

The migrants, however, told a different story.

The DCNF spoke with the illegal migrants, who arrived in Washington on Friday on Republican Arizona Gov. Ducey’s buses, as they were waiting for a bus leaving Union Station for New York early Tuesday morning.

“They helped me and collaborated so that I could get from all the way to Washington. They took me to a shelter in which they treated me very well and they offered me the ticket from here to New York,” a migrant man from Venezuela told the DCNF. His wife, who was traveling with him and their three children, also said the travel option was voluntary.

“No. They offer it to us. They offer it to us for free to help those of us who don’t have [money] for free,” she said. “There are people who cross and they do have the money and they pay for the flight. But then the bus is voluntary. If you want, what they do is they forward us all the way to Washington, and, from here, we look for the organizations that help us so that we can get to our destination. Because at least for us that foundation gave us the tickets.”

A migrant from the Dominican Republic, who was traveling with her 12-year-old son, told the DCNF that she knew the bus was going to Washington and that they volunteered to come.

“[We’re going] to New York, where they will give us housing,” she said.

Ducey’s effort intends to send a message to the federal government about the influx of migrants crossing the border, Ducey spokesman C.J. Karamargin told the DCNF at the beginning of the busing.

“This is a problem caused by Washington. So we are bringing it to Washington,” Karamargin said.

“This is the flow of asylum seekers, migrants entering into the United States or coming into our or entering through Arizona because it’s easy and bearing the burden for this is our communities. Like folks in Yuma, where hospitals, community organizations, nongovernmental organizations are being strained tremendously. So, the goal here is to alleviate the burden for Arizonans,” he added.

The number of migrants that have crossed the southern border since October has surpassed 1,800,000, a new record, according to internal U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data exclusively obtained by the DCNF.

Bowser’s office didn’t respond to the DCNF’s request for comment. Adams’ office didn’t immediately respond.

‘I Created It’: Fauci Jokes That He Created COVID-19, Laughs About Gain-Of-Function Research

Dr. Anthony Fauci, President Joe Biden’s top medical adviser, joked at an event Tuesday that he created the COVID-19 virus.

Fauci was appearing at an event in Seattle to accept an award from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. During an interview, he joked thathe had created “WA1,” which is considered to be the ancestral model strain of COVID-19 in the U.S.

The host of the interview said that the two men are at the epicenter of the U.S. outbreak, where WA1 was first found. Before he could ask Fauci his question, the infectious disease doctor interjected to seemingly mock critics who accuse him of playing a role in the creation of COVID-19.

“No, I developed the ancestral model strain,” Fauci joked. “I created it. I was in my kitchen…” he trailed off.

“Gain-of-function here we come,” the interviewer replied, as the two men laughed along with the audience.

Fauci has repeatedly denied accusationsthat he played a role in the outbreak of COVID-19. Experts and lawmakers have taken increasing interest in the “lab-leak” theory, which posits that the COVID outbreak started when the virus was accidentally released from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) in Wuhan, China.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded gain-of-function research at the WIV for years leading up to the start of the pandemic. Gain-of-function researchinvolves genetically modifying pathogens to make them more dangerous to humans for research purposes. Some critics, such as Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, have theorized that the research funded by Fauciand other top U.S. health officials may have led to the creation of the virus that ultimately caused the global COVID-19 pandemic.

CNN Legal Analyst: Of Course Letitia James ‘Politicized’ Trump Investigation

CNN’s Senior Legal Analyst Elie Honig said Wednesday that Democratic New York Attorney General Letitia James “politicized” the investigation into former President Donald Trump.

Trump announced Wednesday he plead the Fifth Amendment and did not answer any of New York Attorney General Letitia James’ questions during a deposition. The announcement came two days after his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida was raided by Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents.

Honig first said that Trump pleading the Fifth in a civil case could have could lead to “adverse inference” in which the jury who “can assume the worst” and cannot be used in a criminal investigation.

“I think it’s worth noting here, John, Letitia James has politicized this investigation. She campaigned on ‘vote for me and I’ll nail Donald Trump.’ She had fundraised on it so that is not a ridiculous fear for him to have,” Honig said.

“It’s not ridiculous because of that, you’re right,” King said. “And prosecutors should know when they take the job, they need to be more careful about talking about politics.”

The pair then continued talking about Trump’s legal issues, including the Monday raid at Mar-a-Lago, the Jan. 6 committeeand the ongoing investigation into the business practices of the Trump Organization.

Trump declared his innocence in a statement shared on social media and called the deposition “part of an unfounded politically motivated Witch Hunt.”

“Accordingly, under the advice of my counsel and for all the above reasons, I declined to answer the questions under the right and privileges afforded to every citizen under the United States Constitution,” the statement read in part.

Trump and the Trump Organization have been under investigation by James for bank, tax and insurance fraud since 2019. Trump was held in contempt in April after failing to comply with a subpoena for business documents related to the investigation.

James campaigned on investigating Trump, saying on the night of her victory that she “will be shining a bright light into every dark corner of his real estate dealings, and every dealing, demanding truthfulness at every turn.”

Prominent Colorado Dem Charged With Felony For Allegedly Lying About Residence

The Grand Jury for Colorado’s Fourth Judicial District indicted a high-ranking Democratic state senator for the alleged Class 5 felony of “providing false information as to his residence.”

The District Attorney’s Office announcedthe charge against State Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Pete Lee Tuesday, adding he will first appear in court on Sept. 8. Convicted Class 5 felons can be fined up to $100,000 in Colorado.

Colorado state legislators are legally bound to reside in their districts for at least a year before being elected, according to Colorado Politics. The indictment accuses Lee of providing the allegedly false information around March 3, 2020, The Denver Post reported.

Lee claimed to be living with his stepdaughter in a two-bedroom, one-bathroom house within his 11th District as his wife lived in a much larger one beyond it, Colorado Springs Indy reported later that year. He admitted to going “back and forth quite a bit,” according to the outlet.

Lee was taped the same year conceding thathe’d never spent nights at the in-district house and saying he was “really stressed” about “that Goddamn residency thing,” 9 News reported.

The Colorado Sun published a partially-redacted version of the indictment documents. Lee issued a statement through his lawyer pledging to challenge the charge without explicitly denying it and pointed out the 4th Judicial District Attorney Republican status, according to Colorado NBC affiliate 9 News.

Democratic State Senate President Steve Fenberg announced Lee’s removal from interim committee assignment until the matter’s resolution, claiming the accused had requested this, according to ABC 7 Denver.

Lee did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
