Missouri AG Questions Need For Potentially Armed IRS Army

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt wants answers from the IRS commissioner on why the IRS needs an army of potentially armed new agents.

Schmitt, who is a Republican Senatorial Candidate, sent a letter to IRS Commissioner Charles P. Rettig on Aug. 11,questioning the agency’s massive expansion plans that include hiring 87,000 more IRS employees over the next 10 years.

The IRS has stockpiled 5 million rounds of ammunition and spent $750,000 this year to buy more, according to Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz, who introduced a bill to block future purchases by the agency.

“This arsenal makes a recent IRS job advertisement downright frightening,” Schmitt wrote.

On Aug 12, the Democrat-led Congress was poised to pass the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, giving the IRS $80 billion, with $45.6 billion for “enforcement.”

95-year-old Italian actress announces Senate run

Gina Lollobrigida will run for Senate as the face of a newly-formed Euroskeptic party

Italian cinema legend Gina Lollobrigida announced on Saturday that she will run in September’s general election as an independent candidate under the banner of the newly-formed Euroskeptic alliance ISP (Sovereign and Popular Italy). She will represent the district of Latina, which is located south of Rome.

ISP, which defines itself as “the only alternative to liberal warmongering and healthcare totalitarianism,” is backed by the Communist Party, Socialist Homeland, Civil Action, Ancora Italia and Riconquistare Italy. The group must net 3% of the votes in order to enter the parliament. Its platform opposes increased military spending, economic globalization, rampant privatization, and “health dictatorship,” and calls for a restoration of monetary sovereignty, denouncing the EU as “nothing more than a branch office on Wall Street.”

While Lollobrigida was connected with the newly-formed political party through her lawyer Antonio Ingroia, a former magistrate, it is not the 95-year-old star’s first attempt to enter politics. She ran for European Parliament in 1999 on the Democratici ticket, netting 10,000 votes but falling short of a victory.

Lollobrigida has acted in dozens of films, including ‘Beat the Devil’; ‘The Most Beautiful Woman in the World’; ‘Come September’; ‘Bread, Love and Dreams’; and ‘Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell’. She also worked as a photojournalist in the 1970s, scoring a coveted interview with Cuban leader Fidel Castro, and became an accomplished sculptor.

Italy called snap elections for September after PM Mario Draghi announced his resignation last month and President Sergio Mattarella dissolved the parliament after initially refusing Draghi’s resignation. The ex-PM’s former coalition partners in government had withdrawn their support, balking at the rising cost of living amid the economic depression triggered by the Covid-19 containment policies and his support for arming Ukraine, which is deeply unpopular among Italians.

Three killed in Israeli airstrikes, Syria says

Israeli planes fired missiles at the suburbs of Damascus and the Tartus region, Syrian media report citing military

Three soldiers have been killed and three more wounded in an Israeli air attack on the suburbs of Damascus on Sunday, a Syrian military source confirmed to SANA news agency. The missiles are said to have been fired at the Damascus area and Tartus from Lebanese territory.

The country’s air defenses had engaged “hostile targets” over Tartus, SANA reports.

On Friday, Israeli tanks wounded two civilians near the town of al-Hamidiyah in the Golan Heights.

Last month, Israel killed eight people in airstrikes on the Damascus area, including five civilians, and wounded seven others. According to SANA, the missiles came from the Golan Heights.

Israel destroyed much of Damascus International Airport in June, forcing the country to reroute flights through Aleppo as multiple runways, hangars and a control tower were knocked out.

While Israel regularly bombs Syria, it avoids publicly acknowledging its actions. At the same time, Syrian state media claimed that the US has stepped up its smuggling of Syrian oil, transferring 89 tankers of fuel into Iraq on Saturday just hours after an earlier 60-tanker shipment crossed the border.

The Syrian Oil Ministry accused the US earlier this month of stealing a whopping 83% of Syria’s daily oil production, imposing losses of $105 billion since the beginning of the war. Military convoys have been filmed presumably smuggling Syrian oil into Iraq via illegal border crossings.
