Can confirm that this has been the case long before today. Back in highschool, a bunch of the girls were getting fake IDs to get into the dance nightclubs, and doing-up the makeup, hair, and more "mature" clothing styles BIG time because they were much more impressed by, say, a college guy than the kids in their own grade. This is older than time.

I believe the problem is the fact that the Communists are clouding these terms because they are being blackmailed with kids much younger than a teen who would consent.
