Woman accused of stealing Pelosi’s laptop gets OK to attend Renaissance Fair

The Pennsylvania woman charged with stealing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s laptop during the Capitol Hill riot has been granted permission to leave her house arrest to attend a Renaissance Fair.

Riley Williams, 25, has been detained at her home for the last year and a half since her arrest in the Capitol riot case.

This weekend, she’ll have the chance to dress in medieval cosplay in the eight hours she’s been given to attend the fair in Lancaster County.

Photos provided in a criminal complaint show Riley Williams allegedly involved with stealing a laptop from Nancy Pelosi’s office during the Capitol riots on Jan. 6.

“She is confined to her home 24/7 with exceptions. Every once in a while, if there is an activity that interests her, we ask if she can attend,” Williams’ attorney, Lori Ulrich, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Ulrich said prosecutors typically grant Williams’ requests to go out for a day sporadically, and have permitted similar outings before.

Williams was arrested on Jan. 18 after photos showed her snatching the computer during the Jan. 6 riots. She later bragged online about stealing it.

“I STOLE S–T FROM NANCY POLESI [sic],” she allegedly wrote in one message on Discord, according to the federal complaint.

“I DOMT [sic] CAREI TOOK NANCY POLESIS [sic] HARD DRIVES I DON’T CARE KILL ME,” said another message, the complaint said.

The FBI has also investigated allegations that Williams sought to sell the laptop to Russia.

To date, at least 895 people have been arrested in connection with the Capitol riot, according to NPR.

A bare six weeks after Hall filed for divorce on the grounds of “irreconcilable differences”, they have reached a settlement.

A joint statement, released by the New York PR firm Rubenstein on Wednesday night, after the Mail revealed that Hall had asked the LA courts to cancel the divorce petition, ran: “Jerry Hall and Rupert Murdoch have finalized their divorce. They remain good friends and wish each other the best for the future”.

Hall, now 66, exits with her dignity mostly intact and a figure said to be around AUD$430 million, plus two houses, according to sources familiar with the proceedings.

Considering the marriage lasted only six years and three months, it appears as though her $1000-an-hour New York lawyer Judy Poll, who has also looked after actresses Drew Barrymore and Scarlett Johansson, struck a good deal for Hall.

Although sources close to Rupert Murdoch said the total figure was more like AUD$90m.

Texan Hall, though, remains “very sad” about the way things have worked out.

She has told confidantes that her love story with Murdoch was like the Shakespeare tragedy Romeo And Juliet — with the two star-crossed, albeit rather senior, lovers driven apart by their families. In this case, Murdoch’s children.

It’s an arresting claim — but is there any truth in it?

Certainly, the Murdoch clan teems with highly intelligent and competitive adult children, notably Prudence, 64, Elisabeth, 53, Lachlan, 50 and James, 49, Murdoch’s children by his first and second marriages. (His daughters by third wife Wendi Deng are 21 and 19, and too young to have a role, yet).

The popular view is that, as per the TV drama Succession, these adult children naturally weigh every twist and turn of their father’s fortune to see how it might affect them, and their inheritances.

If that is the case, then they will probably be having champagne for breakfast as it can be revealed that one of Hall’s wishes, to be given the giant AUD$281m ranch in Montana, has been denied.

It can also be revealed that she has been displaced from what all consider to be the key family property, the Moraga vineyard in Bel Air.

Moraga is the only vineyard in LA, and the estate comprises 14 acres atop the Benedict Canyon fault. The house, built in the 1920s, looks like a Tuscan farmhouse and has 11 bedrooms.

A third U.S. delegation arrived in Taiwan on Sunday amid the warnings from China, this time led by Indiana's Republican governor.

Governor Eric Holcomb is the first U.S. governor to visit Taiwan since the COVID-19 pandemic, but is not among the first group of politicians to visit the embattled island in the last month.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi kicked off the trend, followed by another group of lawmakers led by Senator Ed Markey.

Holcomb arrived in Taipei, Taiwan on Sunday in defiance of pressure from China for the U.S. to stop these trips.

Joining Holcomb are Indiana's Commerce Secretary Bradley Chambers, Indiana Economic Development Corporation staff, Purdue University Dean of College of Engineering Mark Lundstrom and Chief of Staff Alyssa Wilcox.

China, which claims democratically-governed Taiwan as its own territory despite the Taipei government's strong objections, has been carrying out war games and drills near Taiwan since Pelosi made a two-day visit to the island earlier this month.

Last week a second group of U.S. lawmakers visited Taiwan.

Holcomb tweeted that he would also be visiting South Korea, while Taiwan's presidential office said he would meet President Tsai Ing-wen on Monday morning.
