Russia on Monday said Ukrainian spy agencies plotted the car bombing that killed the daughter of a Russian nationalist ideologue known as "Putin's brain."
Russia’s Federal Security Service said the killing of Darya Dugina on Sunday was “prepared and perpetrated by the Ukrainian special services,” according to the Associated Press.
Dugina was the daughter of Alexander Dugin, a Russian nationalist ideologist who described by some in the West as “Russian President Vladimir Putin's "brain.”
The New York Times describes Dugina as a "hawkish commentator" and reports the 29-year-old had been placed under sanctions by the United States and Britain for spreading disinformation about Ukraine.
Ukraine has previously denied any involvement in the killing.
The FSS, the main successor to the KGB, says the killing was executed by a Ukrainian citizen, who afterward fled Russia for Estonia.
The agency also identifies the suspect as Natalya Vovk and says she rented an apartment in the building in which Dugina lived and shadowed her. Vovk and her daughter were at a nationalist festival, which Alexander Dugin and his daughter attended just before the killing, the wire service also reports.
