Jean-Pierre claims that a 'majority of Americans' approve of the college loan forgiveness; pointed to several polls, two of them at the magic 51% [fake] approval number.
Reporter : Are you prepared for the legal challenges [to college loan forgiveness]?
Jean-Pierre: I can't get into any hypotheticals here.
Reporter: Do you all believe that this student loan program is fully paid for?
Jean-Pierre: So we do, uh, we, so again, this is a question that my colleague here, Ambassador [Rice] got, so we have to get a better sense of what we're talking about as far as costs…we do believe it will be fully paid for because of the work [Biden] has done with the economy.
Jean-Pierre: What we have done is fiscally responsible. What the last administration did was not.
Jean-Pierre: [Biden] wants to make sure that we deliver these benefits [college debt forgiveness] to the, we are anticipating, forty-three million people who will get some relief here.
Reporter: You could say, 'this is how much it's going to cost if everyone who is eligible applies'.
Jean-Pierre: I…I…I mean we don't just have a number to share at this time…this is a process that we just need to take a look before we can answer that question.
Reporter: If you don't know how much it's going to cost, how can you guarantee that it's going to be paid for?
Jean Pierre: I think…what I can tell you is this, is that, we have done the work to make sure this is done in a fiscal-responsible way, in a balanced way.
Jean-Pierre: What we are going to see is women across the country are going to continue to make their voices heard to reclaim rights taken away from them by the Supreme Court.
Jean-Pierre: We're coming out of a time with this pandemic, as you know, that's really hurt people of color, low-income communities, what the pandemic has done.
Reporter: There are critics who are saying this [loan forgiveness] is not about the pandemic, not about those conditions, that this is about getting people to vote ahead of the mid-terms, that the real national emergency is democrats in the mid-term elections.
Jean-Pierre: I disagree with everything you just laid out.
Reporter: Will the administration eventually release a cost estimate on the student loan cost forgiveness plan?
Jean-Pierre: That is something the Department of Education is going to, uh, uh, lead, because this is something that, uh, uh, that uh, this is an action that clearly was taken by the Department of Education. I don't have any more to speak on to that.
