It's entirely possible that Trump had control of Tesla's lost papers and that the US may have been successful in recovering them from Mar A Lago; provided that, they were actually stored there.
It all has to do with Donald's uncle John Trump. He was a "pioneering technologist" (think in the same vein as Edison) who made friends with two very important people:
Nikola Tesla and Walt Disney.
The three of them belonged to the same organization called Plus Ultra, which appeared to be a secret society dedicated to the advancement of technology and mankind. Then Tesla and subsequently Walt were killed, leaving John in much more significant control of the organization.
