Let me tell you something, the way you describe the civilians is 100% justified and understandable but remember systems were setup that way and no one could wake up and break out of them for the longest times.
Part of the solution is to not quash the voices of service members who realize the real deal before the rest of the world does.The Chain of Command and Trust is vital to National Security but we do not have the proper implements in place for a challenge/response system when that Trust and/or Chain is broken for nefarious reasons. The same applies to many Federal and State agencies, Law Enforcement, Medical, and Legal institutions. This is what this current crisis is all about and it took bringing the US to the brink of annihilation before the call was answered.
My solution to security is that it is not one thing but a layered orchestration of smaller checks of systematic and random applications of function. Just as the Military members couldn't petition the wars in the Middle East and challenge their legitimacy neither can a civilian petition our Government to write an equation for 2 Planes hitting 2 Buildings on 911 and 3 Collapsing.
We need a round table with PDJT and others like yourself to assure the public this will never be repeated. Computer network systems do have these implements for failed servers and services, with quarantines, quorums, elections based upon current capabilities and costs; so we should be able to test all use cases of these types of threats and anomalies going forward.
Just so you know, these types of fail proof system have a core foundation or principle that they work on. They work by consensus algorithms that can notify and interrupt the flow even of head processes and processors if a certain criteria of members post flags.
