As a child we had two books full of children's stories, they came with a set of encyclopedia's. Little Black Sambo was a favorite story to read. The pictures were fun and colorful, the pancake stack was so tall it made our mouths water, and the illustration of tigers 'swimming' in butter were so fun to imagine.
We are white and went to school in a small town and all the black students lived near the grade school and we all learned together. My first best friend was very light skinned but black girl and my first crush was a black boy.
I never was prejudice and never dated black men. But black people assume I am prejudice without knowing me at all. I get pissed about that.
