Federal lawsuit filed against Rockstar Cheer outlines a 'conspiracy of sexual abuse and billion dollar profits,' attorneys say

“This was a factory of abuse designed specifically to generate two things:a constant supply of underage victims for Scott Foster and his fellow predatorsand a billion dollar revenue stream to Varsity Spirit, USASF andBain Capital,” Sellers said. “Instead of protecting these young men and women, they victimized them and cashed their checks.”

Scott Foster founded Rockstar Cheer in Greenville in 2007.Foster was found dead in his vehicle the night of Aug. 22 at Paris Mountain State Park. The Greenville County Coroner's Office said he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Rockstar Cheer is a franchised gym. It has several locations across the country. Earlier this week, several locations announced that they would be dropping their licensing agreements with the brand.

Attorneys from the Strom Law Firm said the lawsuit outlines multiple instances where "teenage boys and girls were recruited, plied with drugs and alcohol and abused." They said it explains how companies like Varsity Spirit, USASF, Bain Capital and more "knew about the abuse yet failed to stop it for fear it might hurt their profits."

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office confirmed the death of 49-year-old Scott Foster, who opened Rockstar Cheer in 2007. The gym now has locations in multiple states.

Office manager Dena Wade said Foster passed away on Monday. Wade asked for privacy for the family and gym during this difficult time. She said arrangements have not yet been made.

According to the coroner, Foster was found dead in a vehicle at Paris Mountain State Park. The coroner said his manner of death has been ruled a suicide.

The case is being investigated by the coroner’s office and the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office.
