NOW: The dumpster outside the home investigators say #CleothaAbston went to hours after abducting #ElizaFletcher is being towed away.

Per the affidavit, Abston came to his brother’s apartment to wash his clothes in the sink & clean the interior of his SUV.

Early articles only said A MAN for the description of the kidnapper, but did describe the car as a dark or black SUV.

Cleotha Abston

was charged with especially aggravated kidnapping and tampering with evidence following Fletcher's disappearance.

His arrest comes just over two years after his release from prison on kidnapping charge. Abston served 20 years for the kidnapping and robbery of lawyer Kemper Durand in Memphis in May 2000.

Their neighbor, William "Roddie" Bryan, was in another vehicle. After overtaking Arbery, Travis McMichael exited his truck and assaulted Arbery with a shotgun.[11] As Arbery attempted to defend himself, Travis McMichael shot him three times, murdering him.[4][5] Bryan recorded this confrontation and murder of Arbery on his cell phone.

Fletcher, 34, vanished on Friday after being violently abducted during her morning jog. Cleotha Abston was charged Sunday with especially aggravated kidnapping and tampering with evidence, but his motive remains unclear and Fletcher has yet to be located.

Her grandfather, the late Joseph “Joe” Orgill III, ran Orgill Inc., a hardware-supply company that currently employs more than 5,500 people.

Orgill, who died at 80 in March 2018, was a respected businessman and philanthropist in Memphis, according to his obituary in the Commercial Appeal newspaper.

The paper described Orgill Inc. as an “under-the-radar company,” saying, “most people in Memphis have no idea of the scope of Orgill Inc.”

The company says it is “world’s largest independently owned hardlines distributor providing retailers across North America and in more than 60 countries throughout the world access to over 75,000 products and industry-leading retail services.”

Under her grandfather’s leadership, Orgill Inc. went from a regional business to a worldwide leader in hardware supplies.

Forbes listed Orgill as the 143rd largest private company in the country in 2021, raking in $3.2 billion in revenue that year.

According to Historic Memphis, Orgill is the city’s oldest running business, founded in 1847.

In the 1840's there was little American-made hardware. It was necessary to import practically all the cutlery, saws, guns, and other articles from Europe. This merchandise came by way of steamers to New Orleans and then up river to Memphis. During this period, two brothers - Joseph and William Orgill came from Straffordshire, England to New York as representatives of the leading British manufacturers to act as importers. They were associated with the New York company of Wiebusch & Hilger. William became a pioneer traveling salesman and got to know the Mississippi Valley very well. He was impressed with the possibilities of Memphis as a trading center. Around the same time, he purchased a hardware business in Virginia

Straffordshire, England

William moved his newly acquired hardware business to Memphis, where he joined in partnership with the firm of R. T. Lamb. Together they had the largest hardware stock south of the Ohio River. Thomas Holyoake and Henry Lownes soon became members of the firm - and upon the death of Lamb, the name changed to Holyoake, Lownes and Company. The new firm erected a brick building on the corner of Front and Monroe streets. It was considered one of the finest in the city.
