Thank you baker.

Don't know if anyone has dug on the new SOCOM commander yet? Seems pretty locked-on from what I can tell.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Army Gen. Mark A. Milley attend the change of command ceremony for the U.S. Special Operations Command. Army Gen. Richard D. Clarke is relinquishing command to Army Gen. Bryan P. Fenton in Tampa, Fla.

Hamas authorities execute five Palestinians in Gaza

GAZA, Sept 4 (Reuters) - Gaza's ruling Hamas Islamists executed five Palestinians on Sunday, two of them on charges of espionage for Israel that dated back to 2015 and 2009, the enclave's Hamas-run Interior Ministry said.

The dawn executions, by hanging or firing squad, were the first in the Palestinian territories since 2017. Past cases of capital punishment being carried out in Gaza have drawn criticism from human rights groups.

The ministry statement did not provide full names for any of the condemned men. It said three had been convicted of murder. The two convicted spies, aged 44 and 54, had given Israel information that led to the killing of Palestinians, it said.

The Israeli Prime Minister's Office, which oversees the country's intelligence services, declined comment.

"The execution was carried out after the conclusion of all legal procedures. The rulings had been final, with implementation mandatory, after all of the convicted were accorded full rights to defend themselves," the statement said.

Reuters could not immediately corroborate this.

Palestinian and international human rights groups have condemned the death penalty and urged Hamas and the Palestinian Authority, which exercises limited self-government in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, to end the practice.

Palestinian law says President Mahmoud Abbas has final word on whether executions can be carried out. But he has no effective rule in Gaza.

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) condemned the executions by Hamas as a violation of Palestinian law. It said the move was also a violation of international commitments by Palestinian authorities.

Since Hamas took control of Gaza, its courts have sentenced around 180 Palestinians to death, and have executed 33 so far, the PCHR said.

So you're saying Christopher P. Maier is the actual SOCOM commander, at least on the civilian side? Maier is a former NCTC guy.

>Christopher P. Maier is the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict. Among his responsibilities are all special operations, irregular warfare, counterterrorism, and information operations policy issues and the oversight of special operations peculiar administrative matters, on behalf of the Secretary.

How U.S. Cyber Command, NSA are defending midterms elections: One team, one fight

With 75 days until the midterm elections, the Dept. of Defense is fully engaged to defend the U.S. electoral system from foreign interference and foreign influence alongside interagency partners.

"This is an enduring, no-fail mission for U.S. Cyber Command and the National Security Agency, who bring unique insights and actions to the whole-of-government effort," said U.S. Army Gen. Paul M. Nakasone, Commander of USCYBERCOM and Director of NSA/Chief, Central Security Service.

"Together, we bring speed and unity of effort against any foreign adversary who might seek to undermine our democratic institutions."

The joint USCYBERCOM-NSA Election Security Group, stood up again in early 2022, aligns both organizations' efforts to disrupt, deter, and degrade foreign adversaries' ability to interfere with and influence how U.S. citizens vote and how those votes are counted.

As in in previous election cycles, USCYBERCOM and NSA are closely partnered across the government and industry, and are one critical component of a whole-of-government effort. The group directly supports partners like the Dept. of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation collecting, declassifying, and sharing vital information about foreign adversaries to enable domestic efforts in election security.

The U.S. government is actively defending against foreign interference and influence operations in U.S. elections, specifically by focusing on how adversaries seek to undermine U.S. interests and prosperity, the will to vote of the populace, as well as their belief in the sanctity and security of their elections.

According to the Office of Director of National Intelligence, Russia, China, Iran and other foreign malicious actors may seek to interfere in U.S. voting processes and influence voter perception. Such foreign activity can threaten to undermine fundamental principles of U.S. democracy and influence U.S. public sentiment.
