#OTD in 1982, the Danish frigate HDMS Peder Skram accidentally launched a Harpoon missile due to a technical malfunction. The so-called "Oops Missile" ("Hovsa Missil" in Danish) destroyed 4 holiday cottages and damaged 130 other buildings in Lumsaas, Denmark. No one was injured.

On September 6, 1944, Army Air Forces 2nd Lt. Miles B. McDougal, Jr. was killed in action piloting a P-47 Thunderbolt on combat mission over the Halmahera Islands during World War II. His remains have not been recovered and a cenotaph in Section ME memorializes his service.

📸: Laptop recovered from an office in the Pentagon following the attack on #September11th. It is an IBM ThinkPad with an Intel Pentium II processor. The laptop is inoperable and severely damaged by heat. The key covers are melted and many are no longer attached to the keyboard.
