‘Viva Le Resistance’: Mueller Team Attorney Sent Anti-Trump Texts

An FBI attorney who worked on the special counsel’s Russia investigation until earlier this year sent anti-Trump text messages to a colleague, including one exclaiming: “Viva le Resistance.”

The attorney’s comments are revealed in a Justice Department inspector general’s report released on Thursday.

The lawyer is not identified, but he worked on the Hillary Clinton email investigation and was the FBI’s lead attorney on the investigation into Russian election interference. He was assigned to special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation soon after it began in May 2017 and left in late February of this year after some of his private messages were shared with the special counsel.

The inspector general’s report focuses on instant messages that the attorney exchanged with a colleague about the Clinton and Russia probes.

“I am numb,” the attorney wrote on Nov. 9, 2016, the day after President Trump’s election.

“I am so stressed about what I could have done differently,” the lawyer continued, apparently referring to the FBI’s handling of the Clinton email probe.

The attorney’s messages show that he was distressed at the FBI’s decision in October 2016 to re-open the investigation into Clinton’s emails. Democrats have claimed that decision hurt Clinton at the polls.

The FBI lawyer also suggested that he would work to resist the Trump administration.

“Is it making you rethink your commitment to the Trump administration?” one FBI lawyer wrote on Nov. 22, 2016.

“Hell no. Viva le resistance,” the future Mueller attorney responded.

During interviews with the office of the inspector general, the lawyer claimed that his “personal political feelings or beliefs … in no way impacted” his work on the Clinton or Russia investigations.

The lawyer did acknowledge that the messages created the perception of anti-Trump bias. He told investigators that he “can understand the, the perception issues that come from” the Nov. 22, 2016 exchange.

The special counsel’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

FBI Official: Clinton’s Testimony Was ‘Hard To Impossible To Believe’

The FBI officials who interviewed Hillary Clinton about her use of a private email server found some of her claims “hard to impossible to believe,” according to the Department of Justice’s inspector general’s.

Clinton repeatedly claimed ignorance when pressed by FBI agents in a July 2016 interview about receiving multiple emails with a “(C)” classification marker, according to the IG’s report on the FBI’s investigation of Clinton’s private server. She said she did not know that the marker denoted classified information and “speculated it was a reference to paragraphs ranked in alphabetical order.”

The unidentified agent who took the lead in questioning Clinton about her private server stated, “I filed that in the bucket of hard to impossible to believe.”

The other FBI agents present during the interview with Clinton were shocked at how “technically illiterate” she was, according to former FBI Director James Comey.

“I can’t sit here and tell you I believed her,” Comey said, according to the report. “I can only tell you, in no particular could we prove that she was being untruthful to us.”

Comey said the plan going into the interview was that if Clinton “lied to us in a way we thought we could prove, that would have changed everything.”

But despite the fact that the FBI and DOJ officials who attended the interview found Clinton’s claim to technological ignorance “strained credulity,” the interviewers said her statement could not be “affirmatively disproved.”

The same unidentified FBI agent that was doubtful of Clinton’s technological ignorance appeared to believe it was a waste of his time to interview the former secretary of state.

“We have nothing — shouldn’t [sic] even be interviewing,” the agent said in an instant message four days before the Clinton interview.

“My god…. I’m actually starting to have embarrassment sprinkled on my disappointment…. Ever been forced to do something you adamantly opposed,” the agent said in another message.

The agent later told the DOJ inspector general he did not know what he meant by “forced to do something you adamantly opposed.”

Four days after interviewing Clinton, the agent sent an instant message saying he was “done interviewing the President,” in reference to Clinton.

Months later, on election day, the agent messaged his wife, “You should know;…. that I’m…. with her.”

Trey Gowdy Blasts DOJ, Comey Over IG Report: ‘Not The FBI Our Country Needs’

Republican South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy scorched the FBI on Thursday following the release of the inspector general report that agents leading the Clinton email probe had blatant anti-Trump bias and that former FBI director James Comey deviated from standard protocol.

“[Peter Strzok’s] bias was so pervasive and toxic as to call into question any other investigations he was part of including his role in the investigation of what Russia did in 2016,” Gowdy said in a press release. “His bias impacted his decision-making and he assigned to himself the role of stopping the Trump campaign or ending a Trump presidency.” (RELATED: STRZOK: ‘We’ll Stop’ Trump Presidency)

Gowdy, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, also blasted Comey for violating “department policy in several significant ways.”

“The FBI’s actions and those of former director Comey severely damaged the credibility of the investigation, the public’s ability to rely on the results of the investigation, and the very institutions he claims to revere,” Gowdy said. “This is not the FBI I know. This is not the FBI our country needs.”

Gowdy called on Attorney General Jeff Sessions and FBI Director Chris Wray “to take decisive action to restore Americans’ confidence in our justice system.”
