Russian military explains partial withdrawal

Russian units have left multiple settlements in the Kharkov region amid a Ukrainian offensive

The Russian Defense Ministry has confirmed the withdrawal of troops from multiple locations across Ukraine’s Kharkov region. The development comes amid a offensive in the area by Kiev.

“In order to achieve the goals of the special military operation, a decision was made to regroup troops in the areas of Balakleya and Izyum in order to build up efforts in the Donetsk direction,” the Russian military said in a statement on Saturday.

The troops stationed in the area have been "re-deployed" over the past three days into territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic, the ministry claimed. During the operation, the military has performed a “number of distracting and demonstration activities imitating the real action of troops,” it added, without providing any further detail on said maneuvers.

In order to prevent “damage to Russian troops,” the military has been subjecting Ukrainian units in the area to “powerful” artillery, missile and aircraft attacks, the ministry said, claiming destruction of over 100 armor pieces and artillery, as well as elimination of “more than 2,000 Ukrainian and foreign fighters” in the past three days.

The withdrawal comes amid a massive Ukrainian offensive that was launched in Kharkov Region on Thursday. The assault was preceded by attempts to advance in other areas, namely near the Russia-controlled southern Ukrainian city of Kherson.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul paid a New Jersey-based company $637 million for COVID tests during the Omicron wave.

The company, Digital Gadgets, received up to $13 per unit – some companies charge as low as $5.

The company is tied to almost $300,000 in donations to Hochul’s campaign.

New York Post reported:

Gov. Kathy Hochul had New Yorkers pay twice as much for COVID tests from a company tied to nearly $300,000 in donations to her campaign compared to other state vendors, a new report details, raising fresh concerns of alleged pay-to-play behavior ahead of the Nov. 8 election.

“Whether it was pay-to-play or total incompetence – New York taxpayers and then the federal taxpayers got massively ripped off,” John Kaehny, of the good-government group Reinvent Albany, said of the Digital Gadgets deal funded by New York taxpayers with the help of federal relief aid.

While some companies charged the state just $5 for rapid tests, the N.J.-based Digital Gadgets got as much as $13 per unit in a total of $637 million worth of no-bid deals for millions of tests as Hochul pushed schools to stay open amid the omicron wave last year, according to the Times Union

They spent far more on tests from Digital Gadgets than other companies.

Bill Hammond, senior fellow for health policy at the Empire Center for Public Policy expressed concern over the deal saying the administration was charged more than a consumer buying a test in a retail store – this is despite the fact the administration bought in bulk.

Times Union reported:

Despite buying 52 million tests in bulk, the administration paid Digital Gadgets as much or more than consumers would pay in a retail store, according to Bill Hammond, senior fellow for health policy at the Empire Center for Public Policy.

Hammond reviewed the records obtained by the Times Union and was struck by the significantly higher price the administration paid Digital Gadgets, resulting in hundreds of millions in additional spending.

Wounded Ukrainian Troops Report Steep Toll of Kherson Counteroffensive

Ukrainian soldiers detailed in comments to The Washington Post the steep toll that Ukraine was facing in its southern Kherson counteroffensive, an operation that the US reportedly helped Ukraine prepare.

Since launching the offensive at the end of August, Ukrainian officials haven’t offered much detail about the operation, and reporters are not allowed on the frontlines. But the Ukrainian soldiers, who spoke with the Post in a hospital, painted a grim picture of what the battle has been like for the Ukrainian side.

The Ukrainian soldiers said that they lacked the artillery needed to oust Russia’s forces from their positions. The soldiers said that they had to carefully ration their munitions, and when they did fire their weapons, they had trouble hitting their targets.

One platoon commander told the Post that Ukrainian forces “lost five people for every one they did.”

Ukraine has claimed some success in the offensive, but the claims cannot be verified. The soldiers interviewed by the Post that they were able to capture some villages that were previously controlled by Russia, but it’s not clear if Ukraine is capable of holding on to those positions.

This week, Ukraine launched another counteroffensive in eastern Ukraine in the Kharkiv region. According to the military analysis website Southfront, Ukraine has had some success in its attack on Russian positions near Kharkiv.

A report published by Southfront on Thursday said that the Kharkiv offensive has “been one of the major successes of the Ukrainian military on the front lines since the beginning of the Russian military operations in February.”

Russian media reported that fighting continued on Thursday night in the Kharkiv region and that Ukrainian shelling had intensified in the region in recent days.

San Francisco moves to decriminalize psychedelics

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a resolution this week to decriminalize psychedelics like psilocybin mushrooms, ibogaine, and ayahuasca.

The resolution calls on San Francisco police to categorize psychoactive plants — known as entheogens — "amongst the lowest priority" for penalties. The measure also asks for city criminal justice resources to not be spent on individuals using psychedelics and “advocates for the decriminalization of entheogenic plant practices on a state and federal level,” reports CBS News. The resolution does not formally legalize psychoactive drugs.

"San Francisco joins a growing list of cities and countries that are taking a fresh look at these plant-based medicines, following science and data, and destigmatizing their use and cultivation. Today's unanimous vote is an exciting step forward,” said San Francisco Supervisor Dean Preston, who co-sponsored the resolution.

Similar measures have recently passed in other jurisdictions. In 2020, Oregon became the first state to fully legalize psychedelic mushrooms for the treatment of mental health issues.

At the federal level, most psychedelics are listed as Schedule I drugs under the United States Controlled Substances Act, placing them under the highest level of regulation by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA.) The DEA defines Schedule I drugs as having no accepted medicinal use.

The San Francisco resolution cites research that has found psychedelics have proven clinically useful in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), opiate and methamphetamine addiction, depression, and cluster headaches.

Research into the therapeutic effects of psychedelics has increased dramatically in recent years. The Johns Hopkins Center for Psychedelic and Consciousness Research, for example, is backed by $17 million of funding. Earlier this year, the center found that psilocybin treatment for major depression to be effective for up to a year in most patients. Similarly, the non-profit Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) has conducted groundbreaking research in using MDMA to treat PTSD.

California state Sen. Scott Wiener recently attempted to pass a bill legalizing the possession and use of small doses of certain psychedelic drugs throughout the state. The legislation failed, but Wiener said he plans to reintroduce the bill in 2023.

"Psychedelic drugs, which are not addictive, have incredible promise when it comes to mental health and addiction treatment," Wiener said in a statement.

Arizona Can’t Enforce New Election Law in 2022 Election: Federal Judge

Arizona officials cannot enforce a new election bill in the upcoming midterm elections, according to a federal judge.

Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs and other officials shall not “take any action to implement or enforce H.B. 2243 in a manner that would remove any voter’s eligibility to vote in the 2022 general election or disqualify any otherwise-valid ballot on the basis of H.B. 2243,” U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton, a Clinton appointee, said in the Sept. 8 order.

Bolton was accepting a joint agreement and proposed order outlined by the Arizona Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander for Equity Coalition and state officials, including Hobbs and Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, presented to the court earlier Thursday.

The officials and the coalition, which sued over the bill in August, agreed that “the provisions of H.B. 2243 should not operate in a manner that would prevent any voter from (1) voting in the upcoming November 2022 general election or (2) having their vote be counted.” Hobbs and Brnovich also decided that the changes to the state election code shouldn’t take effect until Jan. 1, 2023, because one of the laws the bill is amending is not effective itself until then.

“While we are pleased with this early agreement that protects the right to vote in the next election, we remain steadfast in our commitment to continue to fight both of these voter suppression laws for the long term,” May Tiwamangkala, an official with the coalition, said in a statement. “We are in this fight to protect the rights of all voters in our state, including those from the AANHPI communities.”

The offices of Hobbs, a Democrat who is running for governor, and Brnovich, a Republican who lost in the GOP primary for U.S. Senate, did not respond to requests for comment. A query to the bill’s sponsor, state Republican Rep. Jake Hoffman, was not returned.

The ad is titled “Sucker” and pushes a narrative that MAGA Republicans were suckers for donating to Trump. The Project Lincoln ad claims the former President does not believe the election was stolen, but he merely wants to fundraise off of his supporters:

UN Refugee Agency Head Claims Strong Border Controls Are ‘Racist’

UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi has claimed that governments enacting strong border controls to prevent illegal immigrants from entering their countries are doing so due to racism.

Grandi spoke at an event in Italy, stating that he was shocked at the difference in European countries’ attitudes toward those fleeing the conflict in Ukraine and migrants coming to Europe from different parts of the world.

“I am not shocked by the statement that Ukrainians are refugees that are easier to host, due to geographical and cultural proximity,” he said, adding: “I am shocked by those who say that Ukrainians are real refugees and others are not,” the European Union-funded website InfoMigrants reports.

According to Grandi, countries that want to be tougher on illegal immigration are motivated by racism, saying that “for the others, the response is restrictive legislation, barbed wire, naval blockades and pushbacks. This is racism. We have the legal and moral duty to welcome [migrants].”

“The lesson of Ukraine is useful to understand how to respond to the movement of those who have nothing. In only a few weeks some seven million Ukrainians arrived in Europe, not just a few boats,” he said.

The vast majority of those who apply for asylum in Italy are also rejected as not having legitimate claims, with just 15 per cent being accepted for refugee status last year.

If the current pace of illegal immigration to Italy continues, the country could see as many as 100,000 illegal immigrants arrive by the end of the year — the highest number since 2017.

Italy will see a national election on September 25th, and polls show the right-wing coalition of Giorgia Meloni’s Brothers of Italy, Matteo Salvini’s League, and Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia are likely to win a majority of seats in the Italian parliament.

The coalition is strongly against illegal immigration, with Meloni floating the idea of a naval blockade to prevent illegal arrivals.

A subcommittee of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has approved a special code which would monitor transactions at gun retailers, a representative said Friday, Reuters reports.

ISO is a non-governmental organization founded in 1946 with 167 national standards bodies in membership. The organization “brings together experts to share knowledge and develop voluntary, consensus-based market relevant International Standards that support innovation and provide solutions to global challenges,” according to its website.

Amalgamated Bank has helped lead the effort to create the merchant code, the New York Times reports. The Daily Caller News Foundation was able to confirm the Reuters report Saturday.

“A meeting was held on the 7 of September 2022 to Review Amalgamated Bank’s MCC application,” ISO said in a statement provided to the DCNF.

“Considering the application met all the criteria from ISO 18245 and no material arguments pertaining to the approval criteria outlined in the ISO 18245 standard to reject the code were made, SC9 leadership has approved this MCC application in order to comply with the standard.”

Several prominent Democrats have applauded the move.

“This approval is an important step towards improving coordination with law enforcement and preventing gun violence,” Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren said, according to the NYT. “In order for this new merchant code to be maximally effective, every financial institution and payment system needs to step up and put it to use.”

Senator Warren and several other lawmakers sent a letter urging credit card companies to monitor gun sale transactions Thursday.

“We write to urge American Express to support the creation of a new merchant category code (MCC) for gun and ammunition retail outlets, and to seek answers to reports that the company has obstructed efforts to create such a category,” the letter read.

“I urge credit card companies to take the next step and flag suspicious transactions on gun and ammunition sales, like they do for fraud and money laundering,” New York Attorney General Letitia James said after ISO’s move.

Planned Parenthood Annual Report Shows It Killed 383,000 Babies in Abortions, More Than Ever Before

It was another record year for the abortion giant Planned Parenthood. Although Planned Parenthood bills itself as a woman’s health organization, in reality, it is little more than an abortion business.

Its 2020 annual report, released this week, shows it aborted 383,460 babies, an increase of almost 30,000 babies killed in abortions compared to the year before. In 2019 the abortion giant killed 354,871 babies in abortions.

That means Planned Parenthood killed 1,050 babies in abortions every single day — even though the abortion giant claims its main focus is merely women’s health care. In other words, Planned Parenthood kills one baby in an abortion every 82 seconds.

Meanwhile, the “nonprofit” abortion business made more money than every before — bringing in $1,714.4 billion income, aided in part by $633.4 million in taxpayer dollars.

While Planned Parenthood kills more babies in abortions, the number of abortions in the United States increased just 2%— making it so Planned Parenthood is doing a larger and larger percentage of all the abortions done on babies in the U.S. ever year. With the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute estimating 930,160 abortions, this means Planned Parenthood kills 41% of all babies killed in abortions in the United States.

Biden Justice Department Subpoenas Former Trump Advisor Stephen Miller in Grand Jury Probe Into Trump’s Save America PAC

Joe Biden’s corrupt Justice Department subpoenaed former Trump advisor Stephen Miller as part of the grand jury investigation into Trump’s Save America PAC, the New York Times reported late Friday evening.

Trump’s top political advisor Brian Jack was also issued a subpoena.

“Among the recipients of subpoenas from a grand jury sitting in Washington are relatively junior aides from the White House and Mr. Trump’s 2020 campaign. While the subpoenas asked for information concerning the Save America PAC, they also sought communications with several pro-Trump lawyers — like Kenneth Chesebro — who helped devise the electors plan.” – The Times reported.

It was reported earlier this week that a federal grand jury in DC is investigating Trump’s Save America PAC.

The grand jury that is investigating January 6 is now probing the creation and fundraising of Trump’s PAC.

“The subpoenas, sent to several individuals in recent weeks, are specifically seeking to understand the timeline of Save America’s formation, the organization’s fundraising activities, and how money is both received and spent by the Trump-aligned PAC.” ABC News reported earlier this week.

Brian Jack, the final White House political director under Mr. Trump, and Stephen Miller, Mr. Trump’s top speechwriter and a senior policy adviser, were among more than a dozen people connected to the former president to receive subpoenas from a federal grand jury this week.

The subpoenas seek information in connection with the Save America political action committee and the plan to submit slates of electors pledged to Mr. Trump from swing states that were won by Joseph R. Biden Jr. in the 2020 election. Mr. Trump and his allies promoted the idea that competing slates of electors would justify blocking or delaying certification of Mr. Biden’s Electoral College win during a joint session of Congress on Jan. 6, 2021.

Hillary Clinton and the DNC were accused of using state chapters as strawmen to launder approximately $84 million in an effort to evade campaign donation limits in 2016.

Democrats’ ActBlue takes in foreign donations and pays for various campaigns – even Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign was funded by foreign donors.

Zelensky lauds ‘liberation’ of Ukraine amid Kharkov offensive

Kiev troops have regained control of more than 2,000 square kilometers of territory, according to the Ukrainian president

President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky has celebrated the advance of his troops amid the ongoing large-scale offensive in Kherson Region in the country’s east.

“The movement of our soldiers continues in different directions of the front. To date, as part of active operations since the beginning of September, about 2,000 [square] kilometers of our territory have already been liberated,” he said in a video address late on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, The Russian Ministry of Defense acknowledged the withdrawal of its troops from multiple locations across Ukraine’s Kharkov region. Over the past three days, soldiers stationed in the area have been “re-deployed” to territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic, the ministry claimed.

“In order to achieve the goals of the special military operation, a decision was made to regroup troops in the areas of Balakleya and Izyum in order to build up efforts in the Donetsk direction,” the Russian military said in a statement.

Russia sent troops into Ukraine on February 24, citing Kiev’s failure to implement the Minsk agreements, designed to give the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk special status within the Ukrainian state. The protocols, brokered by Germany and France, were first signed in 2014. Former Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko has since admitted that Kiev’s main goal was to use the ceasefire to buy time and “create powerful armed forces.”

In February 2022, the Kremlin recognized the Donbass republics as independent states and demanded that Ukraine officially declare itself a neutral country that will never join any Western military bloc. Kiev insists the Russian offensive was completely unprovoked.
