A high-level executive in Russia’s energy sector has died after apparently falling off a boat over the weekend, becoming the latest Russian powerbroker to perish under mysterious circumstances.

Ivan Pechorin, 39, managing director of the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (ERDC), was sailing off the coast of Russky Island in the Sea of Japan on Saturday when he fell overboard from the speeding vessel.

His body was recovered from the water on Monday following an extended search.

Only days earlier, Pechorin had attended the Eastern Economic Forum, which was hosted by President Vladimir Putin in Valdivostok.

“Ivan’s death is an irreparable loss for friends and colleagues, a great loss for the corporation,” ERDC said in a statement posted on its website.

Pechorin’s death comes eight months after his former boss, Igor Nosov, died from a reported stroke at age 43.

There has been a spate of fatalities involving top businessmen with ties to the Kremlin since the beginning of the year — and each one has been classified either as a suicide or an accident, reported Daily Mail.

On Sept. 1, Ravil Maganov, 67, vice president of the Russian oil company Lukoil, died in a suspected fall from a window at the same Moscow hospital where Putin would later come to pay his final respects to former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.

Lukoil stated that Maganov passed away after battling a serious illness.

In July, Yuri Voronov, 61, a top executive at the transportation company Astra Shipping, was found shot to death in his swimming pool in a suburb of Saint Petersburg.

In April, former vice president of Gazprombank Vladislav Avayev, 51, was discovered shot dead, along with his wife and their 13-year-old daughter, following a suspected murder-suicide.

Local authorities said the acts of violence were likely carried out by the businessman in a jealous rage because he suspected that his 47-year-old wife was pregnant by his personal chauffeur, the Russian news site kp.ru reported, citing a law enforcement source.

Just days later, a similarly grisly incident took place in Spain, where police discovered the bodies of Sergey Protosenya, former CEO of Novatek — a company with ties to the Kremlin — his wife and their teenage daughter.

It has been suggested that the 55-year-old Protosenya murdered his family with an axe before hanging himself.

In January and February, Leonid Shulman and Alexander Tyulakov — two high-ranking officials at Gazprom, Russia’s majority state-owned energy corporation — purportedly took their own lives and left suicide notes.

Tyulakov was discovered with a noose around his neck, but there have been unconfirmed reports that he had been severely beaten.

Shulman was found stabbed to death and lying in a pool of blood in the same luxury gated community as Tyulakov.

An unnamed London-based ambassador told Politico: “Can you imagine Joe Biden on the bus?”

UK only invites Bidens to rep US at Queen’s funeral — and may put them on a bus

September 12, 2022

The British government invited only President Biden and first lady Jill Biden to represent America at Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral, the White House confirmed Monday — as a new report indicated the first couple may have to take a bus to Westminster Abbey.

The invite for Britain’s most powerful ally and top trading partner was confirmed by press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre during a gaggle on Air Force One.

“The invitation [that] was extended to the US government was for the president and the first lady only,” Jean-Pierre said, confirming reports that Biden had been asked not to assemble a more high-powered American delegation due to space constraints.

“As far as invites, I would refer you to the United Kingdom, their government on that protocol generally,” Jean-Pierre said en route to Boston.

The press secretary declined to comment when a reporter asked if Biden would seek to bring along former US presidents if additional spots at the church became available.

“Again, this is a decision that is made for the UK government. They decide who gets invited,” she said. “Again, the invite was for the president and the first lady only. It is for them to move to decide on how they’re going to proceed with invites and they have.”

Westminster Abbey can fit 2,200 people and is expected to host one of the largest gatherings of heads of state in memory Sept. 19 to pay respects to the 96-year-old monarch, who died Sept. 8 at her Balmoral residence in Scotland.

“The invitation for the president and first lady came in the form of a note … It was received late Saturday night. And as you all know, the president accepted the invitation on Sunday morning,” Jean-Pierre said.

According to a report from Politico Europe, visiting world leaders will be “bused in en masse [to Westminster Abbey] from a site in west London,” according to planning documents. The Guardian newspaper reported in 2017 that non-royal world leaders would be put up at the five-star Claridge’s hotel for the Queen’s funeral, but it was unclear if those plans still held.

>special master

Daily Mail has a long article about this too. They really don't want Huck, they also want to go with "we looked at the documents, take our word for it, nobody else is necessary", they want to appeal having a Special Master and if there is one they want POTUS to pay for all of it, POTUS wants to split the cost equally.

They want to be Hitler, in a nutshell. Also if Potato said POTUS has no Executive Privilege then damn it he doesn't, new rules and if they have to go with Obstruction ok, fine. Good enough.

"'Plaintiff objects to the proposed nominees of the Department of Justice. Plaintiff believes there are specific reasons why those nominees are not preferred for service as Special Master in this case,' Trump's lawyers wrote.

The Justice Department said all three retired judges 'have substantial judicial experience, during which they have presided over federal criminal and civil cases, including federal cases involving national security and privilege concerns'."

"Huck was a prominent Florida lawyer who served as general counsel to Charlie Crist when Crist was the Republican governor of Florida. He is married to Barbara Lagoa, a judge on the 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals, which would hear any appeal in the Trump case from Florida. He is listed on the Federalist Society website as a contributor to the conservative legal group.

Lawyers for Trump said they believe the so-called special master should review all documents seized by the FBI during its search last month of Mar-a-Lago, including records with classification markings, and filter out any that may be protected by claims of executive privilege.

The Justice Department, by contrast, said it does not believe the arbiter should be permitted to inspect classified records or resolve potential claims of executive privilege.

District Judge Aileen Cannon had given both sides until September 9 to submit potential candidates for the role of a special master, as well as proposals for the scope of the person's duties and the schedule for his or her work.

The back-and-forth over the special master is playing out amid an FBI investigation into the retention of several hundred classified documents recovered from Mar-a-Lago within the past year.

Though the legal wrangling is unlikely to have major long-term effects on the investigation or knock it significantly off course, it will almost certainly delay the probe by potentially months and has already caused the intelligence community to temporarily pause a separate risk assessment.

The Justice Department proposed an October 17 deadline for the special master to complete the review process, while the Trump team said the work could take as long as three months.

Though both sides met Judge Cannon's deadline to provide potential candidates, their filings made clear that they have core disagreements about the job of special master.

That is not surprising given that the Justice Department had strenuously objected to the Trump team's desire for such an arbiter, and gave notice on Thursday that it would appeal against the judge's decision to grant the ex-president's request.

Central to the dispute is precisely what documents the yet-to-be-named special master should be tasked with reviewing.

Roughly 11,000 documents – including more than 100 with classified markings, some at the top-secret level – were recovered during the FBI's August 8 search.

In granting the request for a special master, Judge Cannon directed the department to temporarily pause its use of the seized records for investigative purposes.

The Justice Department had said a special master was unnecessary in part because it had already completed its own review of the seized documents, locating a limited subset that possibly involve lawyer-client privilege.

It has maintained that executive privilege does not apply in this investigation because Trump, no longer president, had no right to claim the documents as his.

Though the government does not believe the special master should inspect documents with classification markings, the Trump team maintains the arbiter should have access to the entire tranche of seized records.

According to a summary of its position outlined in a filing on Friday night, it disputes the idea that the Justice Department's 'separation of these documents is inviolable' or that a document with classification markings should be forever regarded as classified.

And, the lawyers say, if any document is a presidential document then Trump has an 'absolute right of access to it'.

'Thus, President Trump (and/or his designee) cannot be denied access to those documents, which in this matter gives legal authorization to the Special Master to engage in first-hand review,' the filing states.
