CNN Announces Major Shakeup For Morning Line Up
CNN scrapped their morning show “New Day” and is set to replace it with a new segment hosted by Don Lemon, Poppy Harlow, and Kaitlan Collins.
The network announced Thursday their plans to scrap the current “New Day” show, which is hosted by Brianna Keilar and John Berman. Both Keilar and Berman are set to remain at the network in different roles but will continue anchoring “New Day” until the new program launches, according to CNN.
CNN CEO Chris Licht touted the new lineup in a statement. “There is no stronger combination of talent than Don, Poppy and Kaitlan to deliver on our promise of a game-changing morning news program,” he said.
“They are each uniquely intelligent, reliable and compelling; together they have a rare and palpable chemistry,” Licht continued, according to CNN. “Combined with CNN’s resources and global newsgathering capabilities, we will offer a smart, bold and refreshing way to start the day.”
Lemon, who hosts “Don Lemon Tonight,” will no longer host the show once he assumes his new morning role.
Lemon said he was “honestly floored” when Licht presented the new role. “I’m honored by [Licht’s] belief in me. It’s going to be a thrill to take on this challenge with Poppy and Kaitlan.”
“Set your alarms folks, because we’re going to have a lot of fun.”
Licht has aimed for a bipartisan approach in the network’s coverage, leading to the cancellation of Brian Stelter’s Sunday show, “Reliable Sources.”
NewsCycle Media President Jon Nicosia hinted in August thatJohn King, Keilar, Jim Acosta, Jake Tapper, Alisyn Camerota, Berman and Lemon would either no longer be employed by the network or be reassigned. A source also told Radar Monday that “New Day” would be replaced with a roundtable-type setting.
