The city Department of Education has axed another 850 teachers and classroom aides — bringing the total to nearly 2,000 school employees fired for failure to comply with a vaccine mandate increasingly struck down in court.
About 1,300 DOE employees who took a year’s unpaid leave — with benefits — agreed to show proof of COVID vaccination by Sept. 5 or be “deemed to have voluntarily resigned.”

US Mulls China Sanctions As Taiwan Deterrence - Taipei Urges EU To Follow
A Reuters report claims Washington is preparing a package of pre-emptive sanctions to impose on China as a deterrent to military action against Taiwan - and the island is pressuring the EU to follow suit.
Sources report that measures suggested go beyond restricting trade and investment, and have been drawn up more urgently after Beijing’s anger over House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s controversial visit to Taipei last month.
One source told Reuters that the EU has shirked imposing sanctions on China previously due to the nation’s significant role in the bloc’s economy.

Five hours before the doors of Youngstown’s Covelli Centre opened Saturday, there was already a line for admission. The crowd was in good spirits, bouncing a beach ball back and forth. Somewhere, someone got the crowd chanting “back the blue” in support of police officers. The crowd was assembling in advance of former President Donald Trump's arrival to stump for U.S. Senate candidate J.D. Vance and energize his supporters from Northeast Ohio and beyond ahead of a key midterm election. Outside, the crowd continued to grow, with the line eventually disappearing up South Walnut Street. Many people arriving were decked out in Trump merchandise.
