Big Tech Whistleblower Exposes Twitter's Ties With Communists

Helen Raleigh

1 of 2

A former Twitter executive testified to the U.S. Congress on Tuesday regarding concerns about Twitter’s data security issues. His testimony and the following Q&A with senators revealed many problems relating to the safety and security of user data, but the most disturbing revelation was Twitter’s relationship with China.

Peiter Zatko, the former head of security at Twitter, was fired by the company in January of this year. Zatko filed a whistleblower complaint with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) last month, alleging the company “prioritized profits over security” and exposed Twitter users worldwide to data privacy and security risks. Zatko especially raised concern about the company’s cozy relationship with foreign governments, such as China.

Although the Chinese government officially bans Twitter, the company, according to Zatko, has been eager to kowtow to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for the sake of the company’s bottom line. Twitter’s cooperation with the Chinese government is two-fold. One aspect is user data security. Zatko disclosed that the FBI notified Twitter that at least one Chinese agent was working in the company. It was not clear what the company did about this.

Zatko said he and some other Twitter employees had voiced their concerns to senior executives about the possibility that the CCP would be able to access sensitive Twitter user data. The CCP could use this information to monitor dissidents inside China and overseas critics, quickly locate their whereabouts and impose harm on them.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Chinese authorities imprisoned more than 50 Chinese citizens between 2019 and 2021 for using Twitter and other foreign platforms to criticize Beijing’s policy. For example, one Chinese user with fewer than 300 followers was sentenced to jail for nine months after complaining on Twitter about Beijing’s mishandling of Covid-19.

Even for overseas Beijing critics, threats to our safety are real. For instance, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) unveiled three such cases early this year, accusing five individuals, including Americans and undercover agents sent from China, of “stalking, harassing, and spying on” Chinese dissidents in the United States on behalf of China’s Ministry of State Security (MSS).China also boasted that it had brought more than 8,000 overseas Chinese “criminals” back to Chinaunder its Operation Fox Hunt and Operation Sky Net programs, bypassing local jurisdictions.

In 2011, Twitter settled with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) related to the company’s handling of user data. According to Zatko, the company Twitter has made “little meaningful progress on basic security, integrity and privacy systems” since then. As a Twitter user and vocal critic of the CCP, I entrusted my data to the company. It is unsettling to learn from the whistleblower’s complaint how little the company values my privacy and safety.

Zatko’s congressional testimony on Tuesday also referenced the latest report from Reuters, which uncovered another disturbing aspect of Twitter’s cozy relationship with the CCP.Twitter’s ad revenue from the China region “has seen an 800-fold improvement since 2014,” and China is “the platform’s fastest-growing overseas ad market and one of its largest non-U.S. revenue sources.” How did this happen?

It turned out that although the Chinese government has banned its citizens from accessing Twitter, it recognized that western social media could play an essential role in the CCP’s overseas influence campaigns. Chinese government agencies, state media, and their representatives (including CCP members) have opened Twitter accounts, purchased advertisements on the platform, and used Twitter to spread Beijing’s propaganda and misinformation in efforts to shape public opinion overseas. Driven to grow its bottom line, Twitter’s China sales team reportedly aggressively courted local Chinese governments.

In his whistleblower complaint, Zatko alleged that “Twitter executives knew that accepting Chinese money risked endangering users in China … but Twitter was too dependent upon the revenue stream at this point to do anything other than attempt to increase it.”

Chinese government agencies and their representatives reportedly used the purse’s power to demand blue checks on their accounts, lending them credibility for unsuspected users worldwide. While Twitter often violates American citizens’ constitutionally protected right to free speech by temporarily or permanently suspending accounts in the name of combating misinformation and disinformation, it rarely applies such censorship to Chinese government accounts.

For example, former China’s ambassador to the United States, Cui Tian Kai, denied Beijing’s suppression of the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong and human rights abuses against Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang on Twitter. Zhao Lijian, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson and a well-known “wolf diplomat,” spread a conspiracy theory of Covid-19’s origin on Twitter and accused the U.S. military of bringing the coronavirus to China.

Even though there are mountains of evidence suggesting both Cui’s and Zhao’s tweets as disinformation, their tweets remain intact, and their accounts were never suspended. While demonstrating great deference to Chinese government officials, Twitter has suspended, even permanently banned, many Americans for tweeting “Men aren’t women.”

Twitter is currently fighting a legal battle with Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla. Musk made an offer to purchase Twitter but backed out of the deal, alleging the company misrepresented its business, among other things. Zatko’s whistleblower complaint will no doubt strengthen Musk’s case.

For many Twitter users worldwide, Zatko did a public service by revealing the company’s many problems, including its relationship with the Chinese government. The whistleblower complaint also exposed Twitter’s double standards and hypocrisy regarding free speech. It is time that all Twitter users think long and hard about whether we should continue to support this social media platform and let it profit from our activities and information while risking our privacy and safety.

Hemingway: America Can’t Survive A Two-Tiered Justice System

September 15, 2022

“A country does not survive two standards of justice, particularly two standards that are so far apart,” said Federalist Editor-in-Chief Mollie Hemingway during a speech at the National Conservatism Conference in Miami. “It can’t abide allowing corporate-funded insurrectionists, who control the entire propaganda press, to go to war against the American people, destroying and attacking federal courthouses, the White House, monuments, while then handing down draconian punishments to even those on the far-exteriors of the riot at the U.S. Capitol. Rule of law has to mean one rule of law, not the variables we see weaponized right now by the administrative state.”

Nonpartisan’ Get-Out-The-Vote Efforts Benefit Democrats

William Doyle.1 of 2

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson has said his city will use a private grant to conduct door-to-door canvassing by the city’s election officials to urge people to vote.

To many people, it would seem that nothing could be as innocuous as a simple “nonpartisan” get-out-the-vote (GOTV) effort, even if it is financed by private grants to election officials. It might sound fair enough, if the mayor’s election staff takes no partisan position, and advocates for no particular candidates in their efforts, and given that election officials are required by law to operate in a nonpartisan fashion.

But as The Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway tweeted at the time, “Zuckerberg-style targeted private financing — and collusion with supposedly non-partisan election administration — of GOTV operations in Democrat regions is a horrific attack on election integrity.”

Even if we could take Milwaukee Mayor Johnson at his word when he says, “I’m not asking anybody to cast their ballots for 1 party or another or 1 candidate or another. What I’m asking is for people to participate in our process,” what he is suggesting is inherently partisan, at least in Milwaukee, and in most other U.S. urban areas.

Content neutrality of GOTV efforts ultimately has little to do with their partisan effects. The partisan advantage depends far more on the political characteristics of the targeted area.

Why Geographically Targeted GOTV Efforts are Inherently Partisan

In a city like Milwaukee, which Joe Biden won in 2020 with 80 percent of the vote to Donald Trump’s 20 percent, a randomly targeted GOTV effort can be expected to increase the Democratic candidate’s vote total by an extra 600 votes for every 1,000 additional voters mobilized. This is because the Democratic candidate would be expected to get an additional 800 votes, while the Republican candidate would be expected to get an additional 200 votes, resulting in a net gain for the Democrat of 600 votes.

If a successful effort in Milwaukee — such as Johnson has in mind this year — results in the mobilization of 40,000 additional voters in Milwaukee, we would expect the result to be an additional 24,000 votes for the Democratic candidate, far in excess of the 20,682 votes by which Biden defeated Trump in Wisconsin in 2020.

You can calculate the “get-out-the-vote multiplier” (GOTV multiplier) for any city or county yourself. All you have to know is the margin by which the Democratic candidate beat the Republican candidate in the previous election, assuming that the political characteristics of the demographic in question haven’t significantly changed.

For example, if an area is 80 percent Democrat and 20 percent Republican like Milwaukee, the GOTV multiplier will be the difference between the Democrat vote share and the Republican vote share, which in this case is 60 percent or 0.60. An additional 1,000 votes will yield an extra 600 votes for the Democrat.

Of course, if the Republican candidate beats the Democrat candidate, the GOTV multiplier will be negative. This is why one never sees leftist nonprofits targeting GOTV efforts in exurban and rural areas, even though many Democratic voters live in those areas.

Every political strategist knows these formulas, but the public has been misled by the narrative that as long as the message of GOTV efforts is nonpartisan, the activities themselves are also nonpartisan. They are not! Precise targeting of GOTV efforts within any area will result in a predictable GOTV multiplier, which is why private funds are once again being mobilized to fund GOTV efforts in heavily Democratic Milwaukee.

The exact same principal was at work in the infamous “ZuckBucks” or Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL) scandal of 2020. In the counties where CTCL made its 50 largest grants in per-capita spending, the average partisan advantage in favor of Democrat Biden over Republican Trump was 33 points — meaning the money could be expected to stimulate significantly more Democratic votes than Republican votes in ZuckBuck-financed areas.

Election Officials Should Not Be Running GOTV Efforts

It is obvious that leftist nonprofits are up to their old tricks in Milwaukee in advance of the midterm elections of 2022. They are trying to increase Democrats’ statewide vote totals in Wisconsin in order to support Democrat Mandela Barnes’ Senate campaign against Republican incumbent Ron Johnson. They are using the same technique that won Wisconsin for Joe Biden in 2020 through more than $10 million in CTCL grants to election offices in heavily Democratic enclaves such as Milwaukee.

Leftist nonprofits should not be permitted to mobilize local election officials in the interest of their highly partisan objectives through private grants that direct election officials to “get out the vote.” If election officials in a certain area are working to increase voter turnout, they know exactly which party that increase in voter turnout will favor, regardless of its nonpartisan content.

Conservatives should work to maintain the nonpartisan conduct of local election offices by making strings-attached private grants to local election officials illegal, no matter how innocent or nonpartisan they may appear on the surface.

The inveterate liar who never won the Presidency, lies again. Prior to this psyop Bidan was a notorious liar, and the press used to call it out; but now the press supports every lie he tells, with no pangs of guilt. Because he pays the media’s mockingbird journalists. After covering lie after lie for 8 years under Obama, its obvious they have no soul or truth left. These people are damned to hell for the destruction of America. Hopefully before its too late.

Joe Biden: ‘Inflation Rate Month-to-Month Was Up Just an Inch, Hardly at All’

Charlie Spiering19 Sep 2022

President Joe Biden tried to downplay skyrocketing inflation on Sunday, insisting it was only up “just an inch” in the short term.

Biden spoke about inflation during an interview with 60 Minutes aired Sunday, as reporter Scott Pelley reminded him that the annual inflation rate came in at 8.3 percent in August.

“Well, first of all, let’s put this in perspective. Inflation rate month to month was just– just an inch, hardly at all,” Biden replied.

“You’re not arguing that 8.3% is good news,” Pelley replied.

“No, I’m not saying it is good news,” Biden responded. “But it was 8.2% or — 8.2% before. I mean, it’s not — you’re ac — we act — make it sound like all of a sudden, ‘My god, it went to 8.2%.'”

When Pelley reminded him that it was the highest inflation rate in 40 years, Biden replied, “I got that. But guess what we are. We’re in a position where, for the last several months, it hasn’t spiked. It has just barely — it’s been basically even.”

Consumer prices rose in August by one-tenth of a percentage point, even though economists had expected inflation to go down. Median inflation hit the highest level ever recorded. Breitbart’s John Carney explains:

The median Consumer Price Index, which reflects only measures in the center of CPI’s prices changes, rose 0.7 percent compared with the prior month, an acceleration from the 0.5 percent increase recorded in June. The unrounded figure of 0.73789 percent is the highest on record, slightly above the previous record of 0.73078 percent set in June.

This is equivalent to an annual rate of inflation of 9.2 percent. That is the highest on record.

Grocery prices continue to rise month to month, as prices rose 0.7 percent in August compared with July. Prices of food at home rose 13.5 percent from the previous year.

Utility prices are also rising, up 15.8 percent from the previous year and 1.5 percent from the previous month. Natural gas is up 3.5 percent from the previous month — 33 percent year over year.

Biden would not even say that he expected inflation to decline.

“And you would tell the American people that inflation is going to continue to decline?” Pelley asked.

“No,” Biden replied. “I’m telling the American people that we’re gonna get control of inflation.”
