Not really effective.
Terminal engagement is about a combination of range and speed. While intercepting high speed projectiles in a dead-on course is possible for many systems, the real challenge is in providing area coverage as hypersonics radically shrink the engagement envelope as the intercept becomes more perpendicular. IE - shooting down a missile shot directly at you is easier than shooting down a missile shot at an area just 5 miles from you. Hypersonics travel much faster than normal land attack missiles while having a much flatter trajectory than traditional ballistic missiles, which places them lower on the horizon and complicates interception by systems like THAAD and PAC-3. They can do it, but their detection envelope is shrunk and that shrinks the engagement envelope.
