Man Arrested For Attacking Projector At Turning Point USA ‘Meme Wars’ Event: Report

Brianna LymanSeptember 21, 2022

A man was arrested Tuesday night after attacking a projector at a Turning Point USA “Meme Wars” event, according to Benny Johnson’s account of the events on social media.

Johnson, a former Daily Caller employee, was hosting an event at the University of Iowa about memes when he displayed one of Vice President Kamala Harris. The meme showed Harris exiting her home saying “oh my God I love it!” as a mariachi singer danced in front of the bus and mariachi music played in the background, seemingly in a nod to the migrants that were bused to the Vice President’s home by Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott earlier in September.

The original, non-meme video showed Harris’ excitement when she saw her campaign bus during the 2020 presidential election.

The meme seemed to strike a nerve for one man, who walked from the back of the room and kicked in the projector before cursing.

“Racist ass sht, fck you!” he screamed. “I swear to f*cking God.”

Johnson said via Twitter the attacker was arrested, calling it the “first meme-attack-arrest in American history,” to his knowledge.

Johnson said the attack apparently proved “the left can’t meme.”

We often say THE LEFT CAN’T MEME. Tonight, we proved it,” Johnson said in a statement posted to Twitter. “I was giving a peaceful speech to the University of Iowa Turning Point USA chapter about memes this evening.”

“During our presentation we played a harmless meme of Kamala Harris welcoming a bus full of migrants, set to tasteful mariachi music. That is when a low-T leftist strung-out on pure soy snapped into a violent rage. I watched dispassionately as the libs last drop of testosterone evaporated in an unprovoked kick-attack on an innocent projector,” Johnson continued in the Twitter thread.

We Will Not Back Down’: Major CEO Claims ‘Anti-Woke Backlash’ Is ‘Incredibly Dangerous For The World’

Harold Hutchison

September 20, 2022 5:11 PM E

Unilever CEO Alan Jope declared his company would “not back down” on Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) issues during a Tuesday forum at theClinton Global Initiative.

“In 1939, George Orwell wrote that we have sunk to such depths that stating the obvious is the first responsibility of every person and he was talking about a book on power written by Bertrand Russell,” Jope told former President Bill Clinton, according to video posted to Twitter by Will Hild of Consumers First. “But it applies to today, because stating the obvious, that we have an emergency, we have a climate emergency, is becoming an unpopular thing to do.”

“This anti-sustainability backlash, this anti-woke backlash is incredibly dangerous for the world,” Jope continued. “And the first thing Unilever will do is we will not back down on this agenda despite these populist accusations.”

Jope’s remarks came as part of a panel that also included Clinton, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink and Sustainable Energy for All CEO Damilola Ogunbiyi. BlackRock reportedly uses its investments to push companies to adopt ESG, with Fink calling for changes to the charters of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank to support ESG.

The ESG framework pushes companies to prioritize social and environmental factors into their investment considerations instead of “simply considering the potential profitability,” according to Investopedia. Critics of ESG and other “woke” agenda items have pointed to crises in Ghana, where blackouts took place, and Sri Lanka, which suffered an agricultural crisis, as reasons to oppose the agenda.

“At the moment, we’re consistently reporting financial metrics around the world, but we’re at great danger right now of fragmenting the reporting of non-financial metrics,” Jope said, calling for mandatory reporting on ESG metrics, according to a video posted on Twitter.

During the panel, Clinton andFink labeled ESG opponents as “climate change deniers,” Hild posted.

Fact Tsunami’: Tucker Carlson Ridicules Don Lemon For Getting Bamboozled By Guest

Harold Hutchison

September 20, 2022 10:17 PM ET

Fox News host Tucker Carlson roasted CNN host Don Lemon Tuesday evening over a reaction Lemon had during coverage of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.

“[Lemon] had a royal commentator called Hilary Fordwich, who is British, on to his show, talking about the royal funeral and everything. He decided to go deeper, which is probably a mistake,” Carlson said. “He asked the question, why isn’t the royal family paying, quote, reparations for colonialism? As Lemon put it, quote, some people want to be paid back. Members of the public are wondering why we’re suffering while you have vast wealth. Those are legitimate concerns.”

“So he was expecting, because it’s CNN, his guest will go, ‘Oh, yeah, reparations, sell the crown. Send it to Liberia.’ That’s not actually what happened. Here’s what happened,” Carlson said before playing the clip.

WATCH:

Fordwich appeared to agree with Lemon about the reparations before giving the CNN anchor a history lesson during Lemon’s Monday night show.

“We need to go back to the beginning of that supply chain. Where was the beginning of the supply chain? That was in Africa,” Fordwich said.

“In Great Britain, they abolished slavery. 2,000 naval men died on the high seas trying to stop slavery. Why? Because the African kings were rounding up their own people, had them in cages, waiting on beaches,” Fordwich said, adding that the families of the sailors who died also deserved reparations.

Lemon merely noted it was an “interesting” discussion in response.

Carlson noted that a “fact tsunami” hit the CNN host.

He’s trying to get out before he drowns. That’s happening on CNN right now,” Carlson said.

CNN announced Lemon would be part of a new morning show alongside Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins Thursday.

Remember when POTUS said he’d help CNN restructure and change. Whatever happened to his lawsuit against CNN?Did they make a deal?is MSDNC next? This is fun to watch.

SNEAD: Democrats Have Set Their Sights On Another Key State’s Voting Laws

Jason SneadSeptember 20, 2022

Democrats on the North Carolina Supreme Court are once again showcasing the left’s unusual brand of “democracy.” First, the court voted on party lines to seize power to redraw the state’s congressional maps to the advantage of Democrats. Then they concocted a mechanism to declare voter-passed constitutional amendments unconstitutional, putting avoter ID amendment in jeopardy that 55% of North Carolinians favor.

Now that same partisan court is rushing to hear a challenge to the voter ID law that enabled that amendment before the November election — and before voters have a chance to elect new justices that may hand court control to Republicans.

Believe it or not, Supreme Courts acting like Supreme Legislatures is what progressives call “democracy,” and they want to see more of it. Across the country, left-wing special interests are looking for every opportunity to gut election safeguards, and rogue courts are one of their favorite vehicles. With virtually unlimited budgets fueled by progressive “dark money” and an army of lawyers, activist organizations, and partisans like Marc Elias file an endless stream of lawsuits to reshape elections for partisan gain. Conservative organizations are fighting back more than ever before, helping states to defend their laws, and courts frequently rebuff these left-wing lawsuits as gross overreaches. But the lawsuits keep coming.

The tactic is not new. Most Americans know that in a democracy, the people elect lawmakers to make the law. But over time, more and more states have elected Republican legislatures. Instead of trying to sway voters, frustrated progressives have turned to litigation and unelected courts to impose their policies.

During the 2020 election, the practice exploded. More than 200 lawsuits were filed by Liberal groups before Election Day, challenging everything from voter ID laws to bans on partisan operatives going door to door collecting ballots. Elias’s strategy was simple: sue a Democrat on behalf of a progressive advocacy group or even the Democratic Party itself, and then reach quick backroom deals that effectively change the law. Fortunately, conservative groups, legislatures, and the Republican Party were able to rally and stop many cases, but Elias won key victories that changed the law in influential swing states. It’s a strategy he is repeating in the midterms.

Abusive litigation to undermine voting laws has not ended with the 2020 election. First, Elias sued — but failed — to overturn the results of two congressional races. Then, as states began passing new election laws that made it easier to vote and harder to cheat, he sued to block them as well. This year. Elias has already filed more than 60 lawsuits to end commonsense election reforms, force states to accept congressional redistricting maps gerrymandered to favor Democrats, and even to block third-parties, like the North Carolina Green Party, from the ballot so Democrats don’t have to compete for their votes. In 2020, Elias’s strategy was akin to a sudden, surprise attack. The right has done more to organize and engage than ever before, but far more funding is needed for conservatives to reach parity with the left.

Progressive activists and their allies in the media paint all these efforts as “pro-democracy.” It is more accurate to describe them as “pro-Democrat.” The truth is, the laws that Elias and others are targeting expand voting access — Georgia voters now have more days to vote than Delaware or New York, for example — while also boosting commonsense safeguards that take the slack out of elections

No wonder voters consistently say they want these policies. Polling shows that 84% of Americans back photo ID laws, for instance, including 72% of black voters and 90% of Hispanics. In spite of hand wringing from many on the left, turnout in many of this year’s primaries exploded in states that passed election reforms, too, making these laws not only popular, but effective.

But partisan Democrats have made overturning these laws key to their anti-democracy agenda.

Fortunately, the left’s legal overreaches in North Carolina have given the U.S. Supreme Court a chanceto truly defend democracy by reigning in these rogue court actions when it hears a case called Moore v. Harper later this year. Unless and until that happens, politically savvy lawyers like Elias will keep getting rich as they file unending lawsuits hoping to skew the outcomes of elections by changing the rules for political gain.

That’s the real threat to democracy if there ever was one

Danielle Anderson, ‘Expert’ Who Helped ‘Fact-Check’ Lab-Leak Theory, Was Secretly Part Of Dangerous Coronavirus Research

Dylan Housman

September 20, 2022

Danielle Anderson, a virologist often cited as a “biosafety expert” by journalists seeking to debunk the lab-leak theory, never disclosed she had worked on dangerous coronavirus research while fact-checking COVID-19 origin theories, resurfaced documents reveal.

Anderson played a key role in suppressing a New York Post story which posited that COVID-19 may have leaked from a lab in Wuhan, China, published in Feb. 2020, according to The Disinformation Chronicle. While she conducted that, and other, work, she failed to disclose she was involved in a grant for manipulating coronaviruses from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to Peter Daszak of EcoHealth Alliance.

A 2020 grant awarded to Daszak and EcoHealth, a group which funneled NIH money to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) to conduct gain-of-function (GOF) research, lists Anderson as a researcher. The Chinese Academy of Sciences is listed as another funding source for Anderson — an institution directly controlled by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), according to The Disinformation Chronicle.

Anderson was also listed on a 2018 grant application by Daszak to DARPA, which proposed creating and studying genetically altered coronaviruses. DARPA denied the application, stating Daszak would need a GOF “risk-mitigation plan.”

A number of journalists have run profiles of Anderson and consulted her on the lab leaktheory without disclosing these blatant conflicts of interest. The suppression of the New York Post story began after Anderson conducted a fact-check for Health Feedback. The Post’s piece suggested the pandemic may have emerged from the WIV, which Anderson called “appalling” and “infuriating.”

She flaunted the fact that she had worked on projects with the WIV, and later went on to make a name for herself as the “last foreign scientist in Wuhan.” She was highlighted on this basis by both Bloomberg and NatureMagazine — neither of which disclosed the Daszak-linked grants.

In the Bloomberg piece, Anderson defended the WIV with vigor, insisting it was just the same as any other research lab and that nothing nefarious happened there. The Nature article emphasized the online harassment she claims to have faced, and went on to win a journalism award.

Many of the arguments made by Anderson against the lab-leak theory were subsequently debunked. She retracted her own pre-print paper arguing that COVID-19 had emerged from contaminated frozen foods shortly after publication.

Anderson’s downplaying of the WIV’s connection to the CCP and Chinese military was also undermined by a State Department background memo made public earlier in 2022 which claimed the lab worked on numerous secret research projects with the People’s Liberation Army.

Still, the narrative of Anderson as an unbiased expert persisted. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, she’s a “conspiracy-buster,” and Bloomberg touted its profile of her as one of its “best reads” of 2021.

One Of The Leading Conspiracy Theorists’: Vince Coglianese Calls Out Stacey Abrams Over 2018 Election Denial

Harold Hutchison

September 20, 2022 9:32 PM ET

Daily Caller editorial director Vince Coglianese called out Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams of Georgia over her claims about the 2018 election during a Tuesday evening Fox News appearance, saying it was costing her in her bid for governor.

She comes across as one of the leading conspiracy theorists active in American politics right now,” Coglianese told “Special Report” host Bret Baier. “In fact, what I found interesting about the Fox News power rankings in terms of Democrats’ strengths is two issues, abortion and voting rights. Abortion: obviously a contentious and real issue. Voting rights, this is contrivance that the left has come up with.”

Coglianese’s comments came after a series of videos showing Abrams claiming voter suppression took place in the 2018 Georgia gubernatorial election. Abrams refused to concede the 2018 Georgia gubernatorial election against then-Republican Secretary of State Brian Kemp.

“It just is something opposite of what we know,” Baier said following the videos, noting that Republican Gov. Brian Kemp of Georgia leads Abrams in polls. One poll conducted by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution released Tuesday shows Abrams trailing Kemp by eight points, with Kemp getting 50.2% support, enough to avoid a runoff election.

WATCH:

“It is a conspiracy theory that has dominated their conversation on the left. and the reason that’s the case and can I say that with certainty, is look at places like Georgia and Texas, which established these voter integrity laws,” Coglianese continued. “Their turnout’s never been higher, no one has had a lack of access to the ballot, and in fact, if they did Democrats would be trotting them out as stories of people denied access in places like Georgia. And, again, just not the case and it’s interesting that that is energizing democratic voters because of people like Stacey Abrams.”

“Stacey Abrams has run a very poor campaign more focused on the base. Her whole theory of the case is get out the base and that’s enough to win an election in Georgia. But, in the swing states, and these states where independents are going to make up the difference, that is a message that’s falling on deaf ears,” Axios reporter Josh Kraushaar said.

Federal Judge Rules People Under Felony Indictment Can Buy Guns

Brianna LymanSeptember 20, 2022 3

A federal judge in Texas ruled Monday that people under felony indictment can still buy guns, citing the Supreme Court’s recent landmark decision.

U.S. District Judge David Counts ruled that the Supreme Court’s June decision in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen meant that the Second Amendment could not be treated as a “second-class right.”

The case began after Jose Gomez Quiroz was attempted to buy a gun while under a state burglary indictment and was charged for violating a federal ban on attempting to buy firearms while under felony indictment, according to the Associated Press. Counts cited the Supreme Court’s ruling that gun restrictions should only be upheld if they are rooted in history and ruled that there is no legal tradition of preventing someone charged with — but not convicted of — a felony from buying a firearm.

“Although not exhaustive, the Court’s historical survey finds little evidence that … [the federal ban] – which prohibits those under felony indictment from obtaining a firearm – aligns with this Nation’s historical tradition,” he wrote in his ruling. “[T]he Government must prove that laws regulating conduct covered by the Second Amendment’s plain text align with this Nation’s historical tradition. The Government does not meet that burden.”

Counts did, however, acknowledge thought that his ruling could have “real-world consequences” and that “valid public policy and safety concerns exist.”

Counts was appointed by former President Donald Trump and assumed office in 2018.

In June the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that Americans have the right to carry firearms in public, with Justice Clarence Thomas authoring the majority opinion.

“The constitutional right to bear arms in public for self-defense is not ‘a second-class right, subject to an entirely different body of rules than the other Bill of Rights guarantees,” the court ruled. “The exercise of other constitutional rights does not require individuals to demonstrate to government officers some special need.”
