House Passes Legislation Changing Electoral Vote Counting Process For Presidential Elections – Here Are the 9 Republicans Who Voted with Democrats

The Democrats are fiercely working to overhaul elections ahead of the midterms.

The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a proposal to overhaul rules for certifying presidential elections.

The House voted 229-203 to pass the proposal – 9 Republican lawmakers voted with the Democrats.

The 9 RINO usual suspects voted with the Democrats: Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, Peter Meijer, Gonzalez (OH), Jacobs (NY), Herrera Beutler, Katko, Rice (SC) and Upton.

“The House legislation overhauls certain parts of the Electoral Count Act, which sets out deadlines for states to certify their presidential contests, establishes a process to send electors to Washington, names the vice president as the overseer of the vote count and lays out a process for lawmakers to challenge results.” Politico reported.

In other words, the Democrats are working to make it easier for them to steal elections after they set up Zuckerberg ballot boxes all over the country.

The House’s version of the legislation is not expected to pass the Senate.

The Senate’s version of the Electoral Count Act will go “through a markup next week,” Politico reported.

“To all those who oppose this legislation, I ask you, how could anyone vote against free and fair elections — the cornerstone of our constitution?” Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday on the House floor.

“How could anyone vote against our founder’s vision: placing power in the hands of the people? How could anyone vote against their own constituents, allowing radical politicians to rip away their say in our democracy?” she said.

McCarthy accidentally posts, then quickly unpublishes GOP electoral agenda

Other materials addressed Republican support for election integrity measures such as expanding voter I.D. requirements and ensuring election observer access.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy appeared to accidentally release the Republican Party's Commitment to America plan before quickly removing it from his website.

A blog post from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office shows screenshots from the site, revealing that the plan was briefly viewable by the public, though it has since been password protected. A URL included in one screenshot revealed that the materials were posted on on McCarthy's official website.

Several of the screenshots which Pelosi's office highlighted include typical pro-life phrases such as promises to "defend the unborn," "fight for life," and "protect the lives of unborn children." The post highlighted the GOP's "extreme agenda."

Other materials addressed Republican support for election integrity measures such as expanding voter I.D. requirements and ensuring election observer access.

"Their extreme agenda also pledges to make it harder for Americans to vote, purge eligible voters from the rolls, give extreme MAGA state legislatures absolute power to change the rules of elections at whim, and help insert extreme MAGA allies to disrupt polling places and vote-counting, in order to help MAGA politicians invent a basis to overturn the results of elections they don't like," Pelosi's office asserted.

McCarthy's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

House Passes Election Bill That Makes It Harder to Decertify Presidential Results

The House of Representatives on Sept. 21 passed an election law bill designed to address President Donald Trump’s legal efforts to decertify some electoral slates in 2021.

The bill, dubbed the Presidential Election Reform Act, passed in a mostly-party line vote with a handful of GOP defections. The final vote, coming in at 229–203, included the support of 221 Democrats and nine Republicans.

During the aftermath of the 2020 election, when Trump was trying to determine how to move forward on his claims of widespread election fraud, lawyer John Eastman was among the attorneys in Trump’s inner circle who supported an effort to refuse to certify electoral slates from states where concerns of election fraud were most prevalent.

The 12th Amendment

Eastman’s position—that Vice President Mike Pence had the power under the 12th Amendment to reject some electoral slates—was heavily taken to by Trump, who tried to convince Pence to refuse to certify some electoral slates.

Specifically, the effort centered on an ambiguous line in the 12th Amendment, passed after the near-crisis of the election of 1800 which saw Congress go through dozens of ballots before finally declaring Thomas Jefferson the winner.

That line reads “the President of the Senate [i.e., the vice president] shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted.”

11 States Back Trump in Battle With Biden Administration Over Mar-a-Lago Raid

Eleven Republican attorneys general are backing former President Donald Trump, telling a federal appeals court that President Joe Biden’s administration’s “questionable conduct” in other cases should inform its looming decision on records seized by the Department of Justice (DOJ) from Trump.

For instance, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and 10 other attorneys general wrote in an amicus brief that the Biden administration tried to impose immigration policies deemed violative of federal law even after a district court ruled against them. An appeals court soon ordered the administration to stop, finding it had engaged in “gamesmanship in its decision-making.”

In another example, a majority of the Supreme Court said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s eviction moratorium was likely illegal, but the court declined to strike down the moratorium because it was going to soon expire. The Biden administration reimposed the moratorium three days after the expiration, even though Biden acknowledged that it was “not likely to pass constitutional muster.” The Supreme Court then struck it down.

Biden likewise imposed COVID-19 vaccine mandates, even though he said in December 2020 he would not.

The actions by the administration justified U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon’s order to introduce a special master, or independent third party, into the Trump records case, the attorneys general said.

“Under the extraordinary circumstances of this case, the court correctly set aside the presumption of regularity usually afforded to government officials. This Court should affirm that careful decision,” they said.

“Joe Biden’s commitment to weaponizing the DOJ to go after political opponents should deeply concern all Americans,” Paxton said in a statement “Given Biden’s track record, combined with his rhetoric demonizing anyone he disagrees with, the courts must be on high alert to the ways in which DOJ may abuse its power to punish President Donald Trump. At a bare minimum, the Eleventh Circuit should ensure that any privileged information taken from President Trump is returned and the special master stays in place.”

Amicus briefs are filed by parties not involved in legal cases who want to support one side or the other. The one in question was filed in support of Trump and against the DOJ, which has asked the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit to block part of Cannon’s order.

The government wants the court to prevent Trump lawyers and the special master from seeing records marked classified that were taken from Mar-a-Lago, and to enable the DOJ to use the documents in its criminal investigation into Trump.

Trump lawyers told the appeals court Tuesday that the government has not proven Trump held classified records; Trump has said he declassified the materials. In a response, DOJ lawyers said Trump has not proven that he declassified the records.

Colorado Becomes First State To Accept Bitcoin As Payment For Taxes

Colorado has become the first U.S. state to accept bitcoin for tax payments.

Gov. Jared Polis announced the implementation of the new payment method on Monday, at Denver Startup Week, according to a report by Axios Denver.

Citizens can use cryptocurrency to pay individual income tax, business income tax, sales and use tax, withholding tax, severance tax and excise fuel tax are eligible, per the report.

The state government’s Department of Revenue now lists “cryptocurrency” as a payment method among the more well-established debit and credit cards, ACH debit and credit, and cash.

However, users interested in parting with their bitcoin holdings to pay Colorado state taxes need to use a PayPal account.

“Only PayPal Personal accounts can pay using cryptocurrency,” Colorado’s Department of Revenue details, adding that the user needs to have the entire value of their invoice in a single cryptocurrency in their PayPal Cryptocurrencies Hub.

Citizens paying their taxes with cryptocurrency will be charged an additional $1 plus 1.83% of the payment amount in fees.

U.S. states have raced for the trophy of the most cryptocurrency-friendly jurisdiction as they seek to attract workers and businesses of the new remote-first economy.

However, it is hard to make the case for paying taxes with bitcoin, especially in Colorado’s fixed arrangement with PayPal. While the user would likely forgo future capital appreciation from the bitcoin price by doing so, that buying power wouldn’t be transferred to Colorado as the state doesn’t seek to hold BTC or cryptocurrency on its balance sheet.
