They had sinned against God, and God cannot live with sin. They lost their place in creation. They lost their houses in heaven. They lost everything because their leader staged a coup against God and lost.
Lost in the amount of time it took his rebellious thought to cross his heart.
Who in their right mind rebels against the Almighty?
But yes, the devil and his demons exist to present a free will moral agent, mankind, with an apparent viable choice other than to live in a loving and dependent relationship with the creator.
They exist to give mankind a choice to not love God back, but to rebel against God.
And to our shame as a species, most people take the opportunity and rebel against God.
It's a losing battle, just like the devil's original loss.
But apparently he thinks that with mankind's assistance, he can dethrone God this time.
He's wrong, as usual.
I just don't know if he knows he's wrong, or if he would do anything differently given that knowledge.
After all, much of what the devil offers people is very attractive to people.
It just has a hidden pricetag.
