Clashes in Mexico over 43 missing students case; 'Israel' implicated

During a demonstration on Friday, Mexican security forces clashed with demonstrators protesting against the disappearance of 43 students in 2014 at a military base in Mexico City.

In an attempt for the protesters to enter Military Camp No. 1 in Mexico City on the day marking the eighth anniversary of the disappearance, authorities fired back with water cannons, and according to Mexico City officials, around 40 law enforcement officers were injured in the process. This comes a day after protesters gathered outside the attorney general's office demanding justice for the students' disappearance, which left another dozen law enforcement officials wounded.

A few days earlier on Wednesday, relatives of the students rallied outside "Israel's" embassy, urging for the extradition of former top investigator Tomas Zeron who is wanted on a charge of the country's worst human rights tragedies - when 43 teaching students from Ayotzinapa traveled to the nearby town of Iguala to protest discriminatory hiring practices against teachers before they went missing.

Zeron, one of the contributors to the official version of the case presented in 2015 dubbed “Historical Truth”, which was rejected by the victims’ relatives and independent experts, is reportedly said to be in "Israel" for the past two years.

Meliton Ortega, a representative of the students’ families commented, “Israel is protecting Tomas Zeron, a human rights violator who tortured those he detained at the time to build the ‘historical truth'.” Following the implication of "Israel", the Israeli Ambassador to Mexico Zvi Tal criticized the demonstrators’ actions.

“It is clear to us that the violence displayed during the demonstration, where they left the walls of our headquarters painted with offensive graffiti – here is written ‘Death to "Israel"’ – has no relation to the Ayotzinapa case,” he claimed in a video address in front of the embassy.

It is worth noting that Mexico has repeatedly asked "Israel" to hand over Zeron, but it has been to no avail and no action has been taken.

Investigators in the case claim the students were detained by corrupt police and transferred to a drug cartel that mistook them for being members of a rival gang, however that allegation remains disputed. Just last month, a truth commission assigned by the government to look into the 2014 cold case branded it as a "state crime" with agents of various institutions involved, adding that "clear responsibility" fell upon military personnel directly or through negligence.

More than 80 suspects, including military personnel, police officers, and cartel members have had arrest warrants issued for them, and the former attorney general Jesus Murillo Karam who steered a controversial investigation regarding the students' fates, was detained last month on charges of forced disappearance, torture, and obstruction of justice.

Nicaragua removes signal of CNN en Español channel

The government of Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua withdrew the signal of the news channel CNN en Español in the country, the US media outlet reported Thursday.

"The Nicaraguan government pulled our television signal, denying Nicaraguans news and information from our network, which they have trusted for more than 25 years," CNN en Español confirmed in a statement.

CNN en Español, a pan-American Spanish-language news channel owned by CNN Global, a news division of Warner Bros. Discovery, stressed "the vital role that freedom of the press plays in a healthy democracy."

"CNN en Español will continue to fulfill its responsibility to the Nicaraguan public by providing our news links on CNNEspanol.com, so they can access information that is not otherwise available," the statement read.

On her part, Vice President and Government spokesperson, Rosario Murillo, explained that the country's authorities found the content broadcasted by CNN en Español to be incompatible with the national sovereignty guaranteed by the constitution.

The Nicaraguan constitution states that independence, sovereignty, and self-determination are the inalienable rights of the people of Nicaragua, according to Murillo.

Murillo considered that the right to media is a social responsibility and must be exercised with strict adherence to constitutional principles, stressing that the law punishes any act of foreign interference.

The spokesperson justified that the decision to withdraw the signal of CNN en Español is in defense of the country's sovereignty.

While the United States described the Nicaraguan media's decision as an infringement on freedom of expression and the right to access information, Washington, in an act of double standards and media censorship, banned most of the Russian media after the start of the war in Ukraine.

Tensions between Managua and Washington

It is noteworthy that tensions between Nicaragua and the US increased following the Latin American nation's latest presidential election.

In July, Nicaraguan authorities decided to prevent newly-appointed US Ambassador Hugo Rodriguez from entering the country owing to his previous hostile statements toward Managua, according to a statement from the Nicaraguan Foreign Ministry.

"The government of Nicaragua, in use of its powers and in exercise of its national sovereignty, immediately withdraws the approval granted to the candidate Hugo Rodriguez," the Nicaraguan Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Rodriguez was nominated by US President Joe Biden on May 6, 2022, to be the next US ambassador in Nicaragua, succeeding Kevin Sullivan.

Rodriguez previously stated that as US ambassador to Nicaragua, he would support the use of all economic and political measures to shift Nicaragua's political orientation.

In addition, the United States excluded in June Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua from the summit of the Americas, claiming that the authorities in those countries we "not democratic".

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega had been banned from the summit, despite being democratically elected as president for the fourth term in his country.

US intervention in Nicaragua's affairs

Nicaragua's elections last year sparked disapproval from the White House.

Biden said, "What Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega and his wife, Vice President Rosario Murillo, orchestrated today was a pantomime election that was neither free nor fair, and most certainly not democratic."

The US President accused Nicaragua's government of imprisoning nearly 40 opposition figures, including potential presidential candidates, since May.

US, EU sanction Nicaraguan officials

After Ortega's election, the US and European Union sanctioned Nicaraguan officials, including the defense minister, officials in the military, the state-owned Nicaraguan Mining company, and the company responsible for telecommunications and postal services.

Washington and the European Union have already imposed sanctions on Ortega in June of 2021 as part of its pressure campaign to subdue the South-American country. A month later, the US imposed visa restrictions on 100 members of Nicaragua's National Assembly and judicial system.

'Israel' to sell air defense system to UAE

“Israel” has agreed to sell an advanced air defense system to the United Arab Emirates, the first such known deal between the two countries since they normalized ties in 2020, two sources familiar with the matter said as quoted by Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.

The newspaper added citing the two sources that “Israel” ratified a UAE request in the middle of the summer and would supply the Gulf state with Rafael-made SPYDER mobile interceptors.

According to a third source, the UAE has acquired Israeli technology allegedly capable of countering drone attacks like the one that hit Abu Dhabi earlier this year.

Earlier this year, the UAE announced that a large number of ballistic missiles and drones targeted sites in Abu Dhabi and southern Saudi Arabia.

https://english.almayadeen.net/news/politics/zelensky-shocked-by-israel-not-arming-kiev-despite-reports

Zelensky 'shocked' by 'Israel' not arming Kiev despite reports

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Friday that he was "shocked" that the Israeli occupation was not joining the West in supplying Kiev with weapons in light of the Ukraine war.

"I don't understand what has happened to Israel. I'm shocked… Israel has given us nothing, zero," Zelensky told French reporters.

The Ukrainian president said the Israeli government, while not giving arms to Ukraine, was supplying them to other countries.

"I understand that they need to defend their territory, but I have learned from our intelligence that Israel has been actually supplying these defense systems to other countries," Zelensky added.

What comes off as inaccurate about the Ukrainian President's words is that Israeli media reported earlier in the month that an Israeli arms manufacturer was supplying anti-UAV systems to Ukraine via Poland, with the sales conducted through Warsaw to circumvent "Tel Aviv's" refusal to sell advanced arms to Ukraine.

The firm reportedly informed the Israeli Ministry of Security that it was selling arms to Poland, though it pretended not to know the latter was then giving the weapons to Kiev to use against Russia.

The anti-UAV systems enable their users to intercept and disrupt drones. Classified as "advanced defensive technology", the systems are not approved for sale to Kiev, though "Tel Aviv" did not seem to be interested in foiling the deal.

The Israeli occupation uses anti-drone systems around the Gaza separation wall, the Palestinian-Lebanese borders, and the Palestinian-Syrian borders, with "Israel" claimed to be one of the world's top developers and manufacturers of the technology with the involvement of various Israeli arms manufacturers, such as IAI, Elbit, and MCTECH.

The Israeli occupation has refused to join the West's bid in arming Ukraine, arguing that it would harm its already sensitive ties with Russia.

However, due to "Israel's" support of Ukraine, tensions soared between "Tel Aviv" and Moscow, prompting the latter to close the "Jewish Agency for Israel's" work in Russia, giving rise to further tensions.

Relations between "Israel" and Russia have witnessed tension in recent months, as the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the Israeli ambassador to Russia, Alexander Ben Zvi, over a statement by Yair Lapid when he was foreign minister in April, when he condemned Russia's practices in Ukraine, describing them as "war crimes".

In addition to the Jewish Agency issue between "Israel" and Russia, a dual-citizen Israeli-Ukrainian by the name of Vladimir Kozlovsky was captured in the Lugansk People's Republic as he was fighting among the mercenaries siding with Ukraine. It is evident that his release will not take place easily in light of the lack of trust between "Israel" and Russia.

US allocates $327mln aid to Afghanistan while still freezing assets

Washington has announced its allocation of $327 million in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, according to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday.

"The United States is providing nearly $327 in additional humanitarian assistance to help the people of Afghanistan," Blinken said.

Washington is notoriously known for using aid as a weapon of co-dependency; simultaneously, it refuses to unfreeze Afghan assets worth billions of dollars.

Last week, hundreds of Afghans gathered in front of the former office of the Afghan Human Rights Commission in the capital, Kabul, to protest against the United States' announcement to transfer part of Afghanistan's national reserves to a trust fund in Switzerland, calling for the full release of assets.

The demonstrators raised banners and chanted anti-US slogans, blaming it for the ongoing humanitarian and economic crisis in Afghanistan.

The demonstrators demanded the immediate and complete release of the reserves of the Central Bank of Afghanistan and issued a statement at the end of the demonstration, accusing the US-led forces of committing war crimes and heinously killing innocent Afghan men, women, and children.

Last week, Washington unveiled plans to create an external fund to administer $3.5 billion of Afghanistan's stolen national reserves, the Taliban said that the US had "usurped" Afghan assets. Upon revealing the fund, the US argued that it could "not trust" the Taliban with the country's money.

The US placed a $7 billion asset freeze on the Afghan central bank in August of last year, which exacerbated the poverty crisis brought on by decades of US occupation, followed by the US forces' chaotic withdrawal and the fall of the US-supported government and thus the suspension of foreign aid.

'MAGA' runs Republican Party: Biden

The people in control of the US Republican Party are "MAGA Republican[s]", though not every member of the GOP is a "MAGA Republican", President Joe Biden said on Friday.

Biden uses "MAGA", former US President Donald Trump's campaign slogan that stands for "Make America Great Again" to identify purportedly radical elements of the party.

The MAGA Republicans in question, according to Biden, "pose a clear and present danger" to US democracy.

"The path offered by Democrats is contrasted with the one offered by the MAGA Republicans, and by the way, not all Republicans are MAGA Republicans, so I want to make that clear," Biden said during remarks to the Democratic National Committee. "The MAGA Republicans control the Republican party right now, and that’s self-evident."

Biden's previous statements saw House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said the president "vilified" tens of millions of US citizens who supported Trump and the GOP. He also accused him of choosing to "divide, demean and disparage his fellow Americans."

In his first political rally speech ahead of the November midterm elections, Biden denounced Trump-allied Republicans and compared the MAGA movement to "semi-fascism".

Additionally, Democrats believe that making Trump a central theme of the midterm elections will harm Republicans' chances of regaining control of Congress.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the US President condemned Trump and MAGA Republicans for "representing an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic," accusing them of “not respecting the Constitution."

"MAGA forces are determined to take this country backwards. Backwards to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, no right to contraception, no right to marry who you love," the Democrat President said.

Inevitable civil war looms on the horizon

This comes as Americans are feeling quite pessimistic about the future of the country, as almost half of them think that a civil war could break out soon.

More than two-fifths of US citizens consider a civil war inevitable in the next 10 years, a figure that rises to more than half among self-identified "strong Republicans."

The findings of YouGov and the Economist research follow similar results in previous polls.

US Senator Lindsey Graham warned on Sunday of "riots in the streets" if former US President Trump faces charges over his handling of documents found when the FBI searched his Mar-a-Lago home.

Eyeing the US' long history of political violence and assassination, current rising radicalism and fighting words increase jagged political division and explicitly warn of inevitable political violence.

Abbas: 'Oslo' no longer exists, UN protects 'Israel'

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas delivered a speech to the United Nations General Assembly on Friday, in which he attacked the Israeli occupation and its crimes against the Palestinian people, and sharply criticized the United Nations for "protecting Israel from punishment."

Abbas gave his speech during the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, held in New York from September 20 to 26.

At the beginning of the speech, Abbas reiterated the emphasis on "adhering to the Hashemite guardianship over the holy sites in Occupied Palestine", and said that the Palestinian Authority "will deal with Israel as an occupying state."

Abbas stated, "We are ready to hold elections," adding that, "Israel has prevented us, and when some entities order it otherwise, we will hold those elections immediately."

The Palestinian President questioned; "if Israel is an apartheid regime, and it is, why not punish it for violating international law? and who protects it from such punishment" confirming that, "the United Nations and its enforcers are the ones who protect Israel from punishment."

Oslo no longer exists

The Palestinian President explained while holding photos of massacres and attacks carried out by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people, that "the latest Israeli massacres was the attack on Gaza with bombs," adding that, "We now call on the international community to hold Israel accountable for its crimes and we will go to the (International) Criminal Court."

"Palestinian people are the only ones left on the face of the earth under occupation… Why? We do not accept that we remain the only party that adheres to the agreements we signed with Israel in 1993." Abbas said, adding, "The Oslo accords no longer exist on the ground (in practice), because of Israel's unilateral violations of them."

Abbas stressed that, "we have to look for other ways to achieve our rights, especially since not a single one of all the resolutions issued by the UN regarding Palestine has been implemented", and that "there are double standards applied when it comes to Tel Aviv."

Palestine will join other international organizations

President Mahmoud Abbas revealed, "the state of Palestine will initiate the procedure of joining other international organizations," stressing that, "during past crises, we left no method to bring Israel back to the negotiating table, but it refused and continues to refuse to do so."

He pointed out to the representatives of the states that, "we will not resort to weapons or violence, but we will fight terrorism with the international community, and what we ask from you is to protect us," demanding immediate implementation of, "the Resolution 181 on the partition of Palestine and Resolution 194 on the return of refugees."

"Israel has left us no other choice but to reconsider the entire existing relationship," Abbas said, "we do not accept that we remain the only party that respects the agreements with Israel that it violates."

Abbas also pointed out that, "European countries have not recognized the state of Palestine, and they are threatening us with a veto against our full membership in the United Nations."

The international community has failed to protect the Palestinian people

"The international community has failed to deter the heinous Israeli aggression against our people and provide them with protection," Abbas concluded.

Abbas addressed UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, saying: "I call on the UN Secretary-General to work hard to develop an international plan to end the occupation of the land of the state of Palestine."

>> Abbas is a puppet and a chicken head. It's amazing he stood up and said this.

Musk activating Starlink in Iran

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said Friday that he was activating Starlink, his company's constellation of internet satellites, in Iran as the Islamic Republic undergoes mass protests.

"Activating Starlink", Musk said on Twitter, replying to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's announcement that Washington "took action today to advance Internet freedom and the free flow of information for the Iranian people."

Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi stated today that some social networking sites took an active role in directing the riots and igniting the fires, adding that many elements of the riots were the result of training received using these sites.

Wahidi then went on to announce that the ministry decided to put temporary restrictions on social networking sites to "maintain security and the safety of the people."

The US Department of the Treasury issued a license expanding the provision of internet services to Iran amid the protests taking place in the country, US Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo said on Friday.

The US decision comes in light of widespread demonstrations taking place in Iran in the aftermath of a young woman's death that the West rushed to capitalize on, claiming that the Iranian police murdered her.

A few days ago, the Iranian police published CCTV footage documenting the last moments of Mahsa Amini at the police station. The Tehran police said the footage proved that the 22-year-old was not subjected to any violence or physical abuse.

The expanded license granted by Washington authorities tech companies to offer Iranians more secure, external internet service options, such as Starlink, eccentric billionaire Elon Musk's satellite service.

Meanwhile, Washington and the West have said that Tehran cut off internet access for civilians across the country. However, Iranian Minister of Information and Communications Technology Issa Zarepour denied on Friday that internet access had been down around the country since the day before, Tasnim news agency reported.

The Iranian agency said it contacted the communications ministry after some Telegram channels, without giving sources, published messages about the Internet being cut off throughout the whole country since last evening, and received the answer that these messages did not correspond to reality.

This is not the first time that Musk responds to the Twitter bat signal of his, however.

SpaceX's Starlink satellites got deployed in late February across Ukraine after a request from the Ukrainian Vice PM, with Musk promising more were yet to come.

Mykhailo Fedorov, also Ukraine's Minister of Digital Transformation, tweeted Musk requesting that SpaceX switch on its Starlink broadband satellites to supplement the country's Internet services which have been allegedly disrupted during Russia's special military operation.

Within hours, his request was granted just like that. "Starlink service is now active in Ukraine. More terminals en route," Musk tweeted in reply.

Ukrainian President Elon Musk shared an Instagram video of himself sitting in front of a laptop, chatting with the world's richest man.

In the video, Zelensky invites Musk to visit Ukraine after the war, adding, "After the war, you're very welcome." The entrepreneur said the plan "sounds good."

Dmitry Rogozin, the head of Roscosmos, bashed Musk for allegedly providing military communication equipment to Ukrainian troops and warned him of the repercussions.

Vienna heating bill to witness a 50% hike in 2022

Austrian newspaper, Kleine Zeitung, reported on Friday that central heating bills for around 100,000 homes, will increase by 65% in Styria, a state in southwestern Austria.

The newspaper cited the Austrian President, Van der Bellen, stating that the country will, "survive the winter" and that he, "with cautious optimism", prospects that Austria's economy will cope, however, heating could be reduced.

The biggest energy suppliers in Austrian southern state Carinthia, Kelag Energie & Warme, told the paper that energy bills will be 20-40% higher in 2022, compared to that in 2021.

Last August, inflation in Austria hit 9.3 percent, and despite government anti-inflationary policies, energy and food prices have continued to rise, according to Statistics Austria.

20,000 Austrians attended a "Prices Down" rally in downtown Vienna, as per OGB. Meanwhile, the city police department refused to share their estimates. Unionists accused the big businesses of taking advantage of private consumers who are struggling to pay skyrocketing energy, heating, as well as food bills.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the US and the EU have multiplied punitive measures to isolate Russia by targeting its banking system and freezing the assets of its leaders and its industries.

Many of the consequences, such as higher gas, electricity, and food prices, have already occurred or will occur. Meanwhile, western citizens are bearing the brunt of the sanctions on Russia, as gas prices are rising in a suffocating manner.

https://english.almayadeen.net/news/politics/china:-us-sending-very-wrong-dangerous-signals-on-taiwan

China: US sending 'very wrong, dangerous signals' on Taiwan

A US official told reporters that Taiwan was the focus of the 90-minute "direct and honest" talks on Friday between the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

"For our part, the secretary made crystal clear that – in accordance with our long-standing one-China policy, which again has not changed – the maintenance of peace and stability across the Strait is absolutely, vitally important," the senior US administration official indicated.

In a statement on the meeting, the Chinese Foreign Ministry pointed out that the US was sending "very wrong, dangerous signals" on Taiwan.

"The Taiwan issue is an internal Chinese matter, and the United States has no right to interfere in what method will be used to resolve it," the Chinese Ministry cited Wang as saying.

Earlier, the US State Department said that Blinken’s meeting with Wang was part of a US effort to "maintain open lines of communication and manage competition responsibly." In addition, the senior official said that Blinken expressed the US openness to "cooperating with China on matters of global concern."

The official added that Blinken "highlighted the implications" if China were to provide material support to Russia or engage in wholesale sanctions evasion, adding that the US Secretary "underscored that the United States and China and the international community have an obligation to work to counter the effects of that invasion and also to deter Russia from taking further provocative actions."

Responding to Blinken and Wang's meeting, Taiwan's Foreign Ministry considered that China’s "recent provocative actions" had made the Taiwan Strait a focus of discussion, claiming that China was trying to "confuse the international audience with arguments and criticisms that contradict reality."

The situation around Taiwan escalated following US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taipei. China considers Taiwan part of its territory and opposes any direct official foreign contacts with the island.

Pelosi's visit led China to announce ending cooperation with the United States on a number of issues such as climate change, anti-drug efforts, and military talks.

It is noteworthy that the meeting between the two top diplomats was preceded by another meeting between the foreign ministers of the Quad grouping of Australia, India, Japan, and the US, which issued a statement, referring to the Indo-Pacific, saying that "we strongly oppose any unilateral actions that seek to change the status quo or increase tensions in the region."

The senior US official claimed that since Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, "China has taken a number of provocative steps that have by design acted to change the status quo."

Another US official confirmed that the US Vice President, Kamala Harris, will discuss the Taiwan file during bilateral meetings with Japanese and South Korean leaders when she visits them next week.

On his part, Daniel Russel, the top US diplomat for Asia under President Barack Obama, considered that the meeting between Blinken and Wang was important after the tensions created following Pelosi's controversial visit to Taiwan.

Russel hoped that some progress would have been made toward arranging a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Biden on the sidelines of a G20 meeting in November.

It is noteworthy that Xinhua news agency reported on Wednesday that Xi urged for the better use of successful experience in the reform of national defense and the armed forces and striving for new horizons for strengthening the armed forces through reform.

Recent updates reveal that in the last two days, western military activities have been ongoing despite China's warnings of retaliating against further provoking actions.

The US 7th Fleet issued Tuesday a statement saying that two military warships, a USS Higgins and a Canadian HMSC Vancouver, transited in the "international waters" of the Taiwan Strait.

The term "international waters" has been used by the US and its allies several times to continue their provocations against China.

On Monday, Biden said that US soldiers would defend Taiwan in the event of a Chinese "invasion".

In response, the Chinese Embassy in Washington expressed China's "strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the remarks by the US side. The US president has made such remarks several times and every time the administration would clarify that there is no change in its policy on Taiwan."

This comes after the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee pushed forward last week the Taiwan Policy Act of 2022, which will provide Taiwan with $4.5 billion in security aid and a $2 billion loan guarantee for the purchase of military equipment.

The bill will provide Taiwan with aid over four years, in addition to designating the island as a "Major Non-NATO Ally."

In addition, the legislation will also direct the US government to engage with the Taiwanese government as a legitimate representative of the population on the island, prohibiting restrictions and limits regarding engagements between US officials and their Taiwanese counterparts.

No security presence seen in Beijing amid coup rumors: reports

There was no notable or visible police presence in Beijing on Saturday, a Sputnik reporter said amid reports and rumors on social media suggesting that a coup plot was taking place in China.

Unconfirmed media reports suggested that the People's Liberation Army was plotting a coup in Beijing aimed at toppling the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party during the Golden Week of public holidays that comes ahead of China's National Day on October 1.

China's National Day is celebrated to commemorate the formal proclamation establishing the People's Republic of China on October 1, 1949.

The Sputnik correspondent underlined that there were no signs of tensions in the Chinese capital, with people going about their daily lives without disruptions.

According to the Russian agency, travel is still possible from Beijing, with airplane and train tickets still being available for purchase, though at a slight mark-up due to the holiday week approaching. No internet or social media blackouts have been reported either.

The reports come days after Chinese President Xi Jinping praised the Chinese armed forces, urging for the better use of successful experience in the reform of national defense and the armed forces and striving for new horizons for strengthening the armed forces through reform.

According to Xi, the CPC Central Committee and the CMC have remarkably implemented the strategy of strengthening the armed forces through reform since the Party's 18th National Congress.

Xi also urged high-ranking representatives of China’s Central Military Commission (CMC), the People’s Armed Police Force, and military academics to mobilize efforts into implementing reform tasks and manage future reforms to provide strong impetus for achieving the goal set for the centenary of the People's Liberation Army.

Russia, Cuba stand together against unilateral sanctions, embargo

The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez Parilla have discussed the unacceptability of unilateral sanctions measures, during a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

"The consistent approach of both countries to the categorical unacceptability of the use of unilateral sanctions has been confirmed," the Russian Ministry indicated on its website.

Rodriguez Parilla reiterated Cuba's solidarity with Russia in preserving peace and security in the world, while Lavrov expressed support for Havana in its demand for "a complete and immediate lifting of the US embargo."

The two foreign ministers also signed a plan for consultations between foreign ministries for the next five years.

Cuban FM: US ignored UN vote to lift embargo on Cuba 29 times

It is noteworthy that during his speech at the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, Rodriguez Parilla decried the 60 years of US economic embargo against Cuba which he described as "vast, cruel and immoral."

The Cuban Foreign Minister explained that "the government of the US is reinforcing pressure on banking institutions, companies, and governments throughout the world that are interested in establishing relations with Cuba, and the US continues to obsessively pursue all sources of foreign exchange coming into the country to bring about the economic collapse of the nation."

Rodriguez Parilla recalled that the UNGA had voted 29 times, with an overwhelming majority, to end the "ruthless and unilateral" embargo on Cuba, noting that the US ignored the assembly's decision 29 times.

"Thirty years have now elapsed since the first general assembly voted against this blockade, and at this time, the US continues to ignore the almost unanimous demand from you to cease its illegal and brutal policy against Cuba," he indicated, urging the US to remove the Caribbean island from the list of "state sponsors of terrorism."

Other Latin American presidents, including Argentina's Alberto Fernandez, Honduras' Xiomara Castro, and Bolivia's Luis Arce have also called for an end to the US blockade.

Turkey, 'Israel' negotiate gas transportation to Europe: Spokesperson

Turkish Presidential Spokesperson Ibrahim Kalin said on Friday that Turkey and the Israeli occupation have been negotiating the transportation of gas to the European Union, with the two sides' delegations scheduled to hold a meeting on the issue in October.

Gas from the Eastern Mediterranean could become an alternative to Russian supplies for the EU, Kalin said in May, adding that Ankara was ready to be part of this process.

"These negotiations [between Turkey and the Israeli occupation] are underway, as far as I know, the next meeting will be held in October," Kalin told reporters when asked the relevant question.

The EU has long been looking for alternatives for Russian natural gas as it has pledged to end dependence on Russian energy supplies following the war in Ukraine.

The bloc has already approved seven packages of sanctions against Moscow, including a gradual phase-out of Russian oil.

"Israel" infringing on Lebanon's rights

This comes as the Israeli occupation and Lebanon are having indirect negotiations over the demarcation of the maritime border under US mediation.

"Israel" has already set up a rig in the disputed Karish gas field in an attempt to extract gas, completely infringing on Lebanon's rights, amid an energy crisis in Europe.

But Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah had warned that "if Lebanon does not obtain the rights demanded by the Lebanese state, we are heading toward an escalation whether or not the nuclear agreement is signed."

Sayyed Nasrallah stressed that "the focus in Lebanon must be on Karish and the Lebanese [maritime] border, as well as the US mediator that is still wasting time amid a time constraint."

On August 9, the Lebanese leader warned that any attempt to plunder any of Lebanon's wealth will be thwarted, indicating that the party is waiting for the Israeli enemy's response to Lebanon's demands regarding border demarcation.

Erdogan ignores Palestine, discusses restoring ties with Lapid

Kalin's remarks come after Israeli occupation Prime Minister Yair Lapid met Tuesday with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, rooting for the restoration of ties between "Tel Aviv" and Ankara.

The meeting came just over a month after the two had a phone call and agreed to move forward with the full restoration of ties.

Lapid hailed the elevation of both Turkish and Israeli envoys, which have until now been at the level of chargé d’affaires, according to a statement from his office.

He specifically highlighted the appointment of "Israel’s" chargé d'affaires Irit Lilian as ambassador to Ankara, his office said. Turkey has yet to announce who will serve as its ambassador in "Tel Aviv".

While disregarding the recent Israeli aggression and daily attacks on Palestinians, Lapid and Erdogan’s discussions focused on security in "Israel" and abroad, the occupation's Prime Minister's office said.

Israeli flights to Turkey, which had been halted, have recently resumed. According to Lapid's office, this development would "enhance tourism" for both parties.

Erdogan to visit "Israel"

It is noteworthy that Erdogan told on Monday a group of Jewish leaders in New York that he plans to visit "Israel". He also shared his view that "antisemitism is a crime against humanity."

Erdogan hasn’t visited "Israel" since 2005 when he was still Turkey's Prime Minister.

The Turkish President pointed to alleged hate crimes against Israelis but gave no regard to the continuous Israeli crimes against Palestinians committed by the IOF and illegal Israeli settlers.

Relations between Ankara and "Tel Aviv" had reached their lowest level after Israeli occupation commandos stormed the Mavi Marmara ship that was carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip in 2010, which led to the death of nine Turks.

After a reconciliation deal in 2016, tensions escalated again between the two sides when both exchanged withdrawing ambassadors in 2018 over the IOF killing Palestinian protesters in Gaza and after the US moved its embassy to occupied Al-Quds.

However, in recent months, Israeli-Turkish relations have been warming up. In March, Israeli occupation President Isaac Herzog visited Ankara and met Erdogan, and in August, Turkey and "Israel" agreed to mutually reappoint ambassadors and restore full diplomatic ties.

Marking another step in the rapprochement between the two sides, a Turkish warship docked in early September in the Haifa port in occupied Palestine as part of a mission for NATO forces in the region, for the first time in 12 years.
