Ukraine conflict fails to make list of top concerns for US voters – pollAmericans appear to be more worried about inflation and election fraud ahead of November’s midterm elections

The Russia-Ukraine conflict and other stories played up by major US media outlets have apparently failed to strike a nerve with many Americans, who are far more concerned about such issues as violent crime and inflation heading into the midterm congressional elections in November, a leading polling firm has revealed.

“Legacy media gaslighting has failed, massively,” Rasmussen Reports said on Saturday, citing polling showing a divergence between the topics hammered most by cable news outlets and the issues that are concerning to voters. The Ukraine crisis, in particular, has been shrugged off by many voters, failing to rank among the top dozen issues and being cited as “very important” by onlyone in five Americans(or 20% of lefties in the US, but they are loud).

By comparison, 87% of voters are “concerned” and 56% are “very concerned” about violent crime, Rasmussen reported. Other top issues include energy policy (87% concerned and 54% very concerned), high gas prices (86% and 57%), inflation (85% and 57%), the economy (84% and 55%), and illegal immigration (84% and 54%).

Other top 12 issues rank slightly lower in terms of overall concern, at 75-80%, but some of them register strong concern with even more voters than the leading topics. For example, election cheating and election integrity are very concerning to most Americans, at 60% and 59%, respectively – triple the level of strong concern over Ukraine. About 58% of Rasmussen’s poll respondents are very concerned about school issues.

In contrast, media-favored topics are concerning to far fewer voters. For instance, Rasmussen found that 65% of voters are concerned about climate change, and only 38% are very concerned. The US Capitol riot investigation is important to 57% of Americans and very important to just 41%, despite its hearings being aired on primetime television.Like the Ukraine conflict, the Covid-19 pandemic and LGBTQ issues rank as a strong concern with only about one in five respondents.

The results may bode well for Republicans in the midterms, inasmuch as other polling has shown that voters favor the GOP over Democrats to deal with such issues as crime, the economy, inflation, and border security. Rasmussen’s polling has pegged Republicans with a two-point lead just 46 days away from the elections.

Even among those Americans who are strongly concerned about the Ukraine crisis, not all favor President Joe Biden’s policy of sending billions of dollars’ worth of weapons and other aid to Kiev. A Rasmussen poll earlier this week showed that 42% of voters believe the conflict has weakened US national security.

US Psy-Ops exposed: Washington isn't concerned about morals, it's worried about getting caught

Pentagon orders urgent review of after its global scheme is compromised

A bombshell Washington Post investigation has revealed that the Pentagon is conducting a “sweeping audit of how it conducts clandestine information warfare,” after a variety of social media accounts, which its operatives used to target foreign audiences in elaborate psychological warfare efforts, were exposed.

The accounts violated platform rules and were eventually busted by researchers and the social networks they weaponized.

US defense policy advisor Colin Kahl is reported to have demanded that every Pentagon division engaged in “psychological operations online” provides a full account of their activities by October, due to high-level concerns that “attempted manipulation of audiences overseas” by the Department of Defense have significantly overstepped the mark.

Those fears were apparently stoked by the release of a landmark report in August by social media analytics firm Graphika, and the Stanford Internet Observatory, which found that over the past five years, hundreds of accounts disseminating pro-Western narratives - such as a recent propaganda blitz that “advanced anti-Russia narratives,” including criticism of the Kremlin’s “imperialist” war in Ukraine - were likely being run by the Pentagon’s Centcom unit.

Centcom is responsible for military operations of every sort across 21 countries in the Middle East, North Africa and Central and South Asia. According to Graphika’s report, among the accounts taken down was a fictional Persian-language news outlet that shared content reposted from US state-run propaganda platforms Voice of America Farsi and Radio Free Europe.

One account was found to have posted content claiming that relatives of deceased Afghan refugees had reported bodies of their loved ones being returned from Iran with missing organs. The obvious purpose of the exercise was to prevent Afghans fleeing to the neighboring country. Quite why isn’t clear, although a defense official told the Washington Post that such activity would “absolutely be a violation of doctrine and training practices.”

Strikingly, the newspaper also independently learned that in 2020, Facebook permanently banned fake accounts, created by Centcom to counter claims that COVID19 may have escaped from US biological weapons lab Fort Detrick. In other cases, the accounts even promoted information deemed by fact-checkers to be false.

Sometimes, the Pentagon went to the extent of using “deep fake” tech to create artificial personas, in the belief that “what appears to be, say, an Afghan woman or an Iranian student might be more persuasive than if they were openly pushed by the US government.”

The only problem is you got caught

The audit ordered by Kahl is sweeping and comprehensive. He wants to know “what types of operations have been carried out, who they’re targeting, what tools are being used and why military commanders have chosen those tactics, and how effective they have been.”

The Post without irony frames concernsabout the Pentagon’s psychological warfare tactics as being related primarily to these efforts compromising Washington’s purported “moral high ground” globally, with a nameless diplomat quoted as saying:

“Generally speaking, we shouldn’t be employing the same kind of tactics that our adversaries are using…We are a society that is built on a certain set of values. We promote those values around the world and when we use tactics like those, it just undermines our argument about who we are.”

Residents of the Global South - including many of the countries that fall under Centcom’s purview - might bat an eyelid at talk of “values."

Given how the US has operated in their countries through overt intervention and clandestine meddling for decades.

So, what actually accounts for the sudden surge of internal concern about the excesses of Pentagon psychological warfare operations?

Clues are littered elsewhere in The Post’s report. For example, one peculiar passage notes that representatives of Facebook and Twitter directly contacted the Pentagon to warn them they’d been busted.

As far back as Summer 2020, David Agranovich, Facebook’s Director of Global Threat Disruption, who himself spent six years at the Pentagon then served as Director for Intelligence at the elite White House National Security Council, got in touch with his former coworkers to warn them that “if Facebook could sniff them out, so could US adversaries.”

“His point was, ‘Guys, you got caught. That’s a problem.’”

Clearly, senior staff at major social networks consider their platforms being weaponized for information warfare purposes to be thoroughly acceptable, as long as it’s US military and intelligence operatives doing it, and they don’t get “burned” in the process. On what other occasions Facebook, Twitter et al have provided American spies with helpful pointers on improving their opsec and concealing and conducting their nefarious activities more effectively, and how, is an open question.

Don’t tread on me

Even more revealingly, The Post also notes that legislation ratified by Congress in December 2019 unbridled the Pentagon to manage “clandestine psychological operations” which it was previously prohibited from engaging, leading highers to get “really excited” and “very eager to utilize these news authorities” as a result. Defense contractors were “equally eager to land lucrative classified contracts to enable clandestine influence operations.”

In the process, the US military’s cloak-and-dagger tactics may have crossed into “what the CIA has claimed as its covert authority,” which led Langley to become “perturbed”. While The Post doesn’t acknowledge it, this was undoubtedly the Pentagon’s undoing.

Spying agencies are notoriously protective of their respective beats. Squabbling between the CIA and NSA is a well-known, perpetual phenomenon, and friction, distrust, and disputes over which was in charge of what has been blamed for some of the intelligence failures that allegedly led to 9/11.

Another entity encroaching on its turf would not be tolerated by Langley - so it would be understandable if theCIA, which celebrated its 75th birthday on 18 September, felt it necessary to throw its new rival under the bus for its own purposes.

Graphika, which exposed the Pentagon’s online manipulation operations, is an extremely well-connected firm, having conducted high-level work for numerous government agencies. It would be easy for Langley to point its researchers in the right direction, or at least leave a trail of breadcrumbs for them to follow.

In December 1963, former US President Harry S. Truman, who created the Agency when he signed the National Security Act of 1947 into law, expressed grave concerns about what it had mutated into.

He’d originally envisaged an effective newswire service, providing the Oval Office with regular information to inform foreign policy decisions, but had quickly become “disturbed” that the “quiet intelligence arm of the President” had quickly “been diverted from its original assignment,” and grown into “an operational and at times a policy-making arm of the government.”

Noting that “this has led to trouble and may have compounded our difficulties

A cameraman was rescued under the rubble after a missile destroyed a hotel

Ukraine shelled a hotel in the southern Russian-controlled city of Kherson where an RT news crew was staying early Sunday morning. A former Ukrainian politician was killed in the attack.

The missile destroyed the rooms where RT correspondent Murad Gazdiev and cameraman Mikhail Kondakov slept. Both are unharmed.

Kondakov was buried under the rubble and was pulled out shortly after the strike.

“It’s like I’ve been electrocuted, I’m shaking,” Kondakov said after the rescue, surrounded by debris and pointing to a hole in the wall near where his bed was. “I was sleeping here, and it’s where the [missile] has struck. I don’t know how I survived.”

The hotel was heavily damaged, and the roof collapsed. Several vehicles parked outside were also destroyed, including a car used by RT, Gazdiev said. He added that, apart from the four-person RT team, three migration center workers and two hotel staff members were inside the building during the strike.

“The [Russian] military left this place yesterday. Maybe the strike was planned to hit them,” Gazdiev said, adding that everyone is afraid of a second strike.

Local emergency services said two people were killed. Senior Russian-appointed official Kirill Stremousov confirmed that Aleksey Zhuravko, a former member of Ukraine’s parliament, is one of the victims. Zhuravko had posted a video of himself voting for Kherson Region to leave Ukraine and join Russia in the ongoing referendum.

Kherson officials called the strike “a premeditated terrorist act,” and accused Ukraine of using US-supplied M142 HIMARS multiple rocket launchers to shell the hotel.

Ukrainian Major General Vadim Skibitsky told the Daily Telegraph last month that Kiev’s intelligence officials consult with their US counterparts before launching missiles, but denied that the US provides direct targeting information.

Kherson Region and large parts of neighboring Zaporozhye Region are holding five-day referendums on joining Russia. The first results are expected to be released by Wednesday. The territories were seized by Russian forces after Moscow launched its military operation in the neighboring country on February 24.

The Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR) are also holding referendums on becoming part of Russia. The republics broke away from Ukraine following the 2014 coup in Kiev. Russia recognized them as independent states in February.

There have been a lot of villains at the Department of Justice over the years, with no shortage of “public servants” who have abused their power. Yet, Andrew Weissmann stands tall above the rest, at least in the last few decades.

Weissmann first became a national figure as part of the Enron Task Force where he engaged in prosecutorial misconduct so egregious that numerous convictions were overturned. Unsealed documents later showed that he and his team intimidated witnesses and attempted to interfere in the attorney-client relationship of a witness. Weissmann also took down the accounting firm Arthur Anderson before eventually being slapped down by the Supreme Court.

What was left in the wake of Weissmann’s crusade? Destroyed companies, people put in prison that shouldn’t have been there, and thousands of lost jobs. And what was his punishment? He received an award for excellence from the DOJ.

Unfortunately, Weissmann’s partisan rancor didn’t end there.

Years later, he would be appointed as the lead prosecutor for the Robert Mueller special counsel investigating Donald Trump. What followed was years of targeted leaks in an attempt to destroy a political opponent before Mueller and his cronies finally washed their hands of the matter. And what was Weissmann’s punishment? He retired with full benefits in order to go start a media career, becoming a regular on MSNBC.

That leads me to some of his present-day antics. Weissmann has become a favorite BlueAnon account on social media, and he dropped this insanely revealing post on Friday.

Ginni Thomas’ grave sin was having a few discussions about how to challenge the 2020 election through the courts and Congress. No matter what one thinks of her pursuit, any comparison of that to the murder of millions of Jews and other minorities is so insultingly grotesque as to leave only disgust and denouncement as the viable response.

What this shows is just how terrible of a person Weissmann is. He can’t simply see his political opponents as those he disagrees with. Instead, he seeks to weaponize government power to destroy anyone who would get in his way. Despite being outside of government now, he still lobbies to see the long arm of the DOJ used to crush those that dare dissent. That’s tyrannical and dangerous, and it needs to be called out.

It is legitimately frightening that the DOJ is made up of people like Weissmann. These are your career bureaucrats, left to serve as “unbiased” arbiters when they are anything but that. The seamless transition so many of these officials make from government to leftwing cable news disturbing at best, and it’s really a mask-off moment. It’s also why the next Republican president must clean house, no matter what outrage follows

Ukraine, EU’s dictatorship and change of global order: Lavrov speaks at UNGA

The West’s exceptionalism has fueled multiple aggressive wars over the past decades, but the world order is changing, the top diplomat says

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke at the 77th UN General Assembly on Saturday, explaining Russia’s stance on key international issues, including Moscow’s relationship with the West and the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. After delivering his speech, Lavrov gave a big press conference on the UNGA sidelines.

Russia’s security proposals “arrogantly” rejected by the West

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine is largely a result of the inability of the collective West to negotiate with Russia and address its security concerns, Lavrov told the UNGA. All the repeated attempts to establish the rules of co-existence made by Moscow have been ignored, he said.

“We have repeatedly proposed over the years to agree on the rules for coexistence in Europe based on the principle of equal and indivisible security, approved at the highest level of OSCE documents. We made our last proposal to make this principle legally binding in December 2021, to which we received an arrogant refusal,” Lavrov stated.

Ukraine is expendable for the US

Ukraine has become a mere tool for Washington to maintain its global dominance and target Russia, the top diplomat believes.

“It is evident to any unbiased observer: For the Anglo-Saxons, who have completely subjugated Europe, Ukraine is simply expendable material in the fight against Russia. NATO declared our country a direct threat on the path to total US dominance, and named China as a long-term strategic challenge,” Lavrov told the UNGA.

The minister further elaborated on the matter at the press conference after his speech, stating that Moscow already views the US and its NATO bloc as parties to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Recently, Ukrainian military has admitted that the Pentagon chooses its targets, he explained.

“What is this if not a direct participation in aiming of deadly weapons and participation in the war?” Lavrov asked.

Referendums in breakaway Ukrainian regions are in line with Kiev’s wishes

Russia’s top diplomat also touched upon the ongoing referendums in the Donetsk (DPR) and Lugansk (LPR) People’s Republics, as well as in the Russian-controlled parts of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. While the vote has already triggered a “tantrum” in Ukraine and in the West, with the G7 vowing even more anti-Russian sanctions, the referendums are actually fully in line with Kiev’s wishes, Lavrov suggested.

The people living there are essentially only reacting to what President Zelensky recommended for them to do in one of his interviews in August 2021. Back then, he advised everyone who feels Russian to ‘go to Russia’ for the benefit of their children and grandchildren. That’s what the residents of said regions are doing now, taking their lands, on which their ancestors lived for centuries, with them.

US exceptionalism has reached ‘godlike’ level

Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Washington’s strive for global domination and exceptionalism has reached an unprecedented height, resulting in multiple aggressive wars and claiming lives of “many hundreds of thousands” of people worldwide, Lavrov stated.

“Having proclaimed victory in the Cold War, Washington elevated itself almost to the rank of the messenger of God on earth, with no obligations, but only ‘sacred’ rights to act with impunity, as it pleases and anywhere,” Lavrov said.

Any nation can fall victim to Washington’s ambitions should it somehow anger the “self-styled masters of the world,” Lavrov warned. That fate has befallen the people of Yugoslavia, Iraq, Libya and other countries, he added.

EU is sliding into a dictatorship

The EU, while being “subjugated” by the US, is showing the same symptoms of exceptionalism and arrogance, Lavrov believes. The minister recalled fresh remarks by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who threatened Italy with consequences should right-wing candidates sweep to power, as indicated by polls, in Sunday’s election.

“This is arrogance, sense of impunity, exceptionalism. Only they have

the right to make judgments. What Mrs. von der Leyen said about the Italian elections was astounding,” Lavrov told reporters, adding that he did not recall such threats made by an EU leader before.

“The European Union, in principle, is becoming an authoritarian, rigid, dictatorial entity,” the top diplomat said.

End of unipolar world is coming

Despite all the effort made by the US, its era of dominance is ending and the unipolar world is crumbling, Lavrov said. He added that the future of the world order is being decided now.

The question is whether said order will be with “one hegemon, forcing everyone to live according to its notorious ‘rules’ that are beneficial only to itself,” or will be a truly “democratic, just world without blackmail and intimidation of objectionable people, without neo-Nazism and neo-colonialism,” the diplomat said, adding that Moscow firmly stands by the second option.

“However, objective geopolitical processes are seen by Washington and the ruling elites of Western countries, completely submitted to [the US], as a threat to their dominant position,” Lavrov stated.
