IIRC a single-sided, single density 8" was around 250K? ish? Loved using them on my Atari 130XE with an ATR8000 hooked up back-in-the-day with two 8" DSDD drives and two 5-1/4" DSDD drives. Was a running joke I used to use when I was a teen: my floppies are bigger than yours. KEK!

8" floppy storage (on an Atari-77 tracks/26 sectors per track)
SSSD = 250.25KB
SSDD = 500.5kB
DSSD = 500.5KB
DSDD = 1001KB
So a DSDD 8" floppy held more than a standard and most custom format 3 1/2" before 1.44MB HD 3 1/2" became standard.
