"This therapist was my elder's quorum president in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was my neighbor. I had a family connection. When his wife learned of whatever he was doing, she divorced him, and I testified at that divorce hearing. I'm well aware of who the therapist is, and I'm well aware of many of the players here," Leavitt said. "I had a friendship with he and his wife to the extent that I went into court and testified on behalf of his wife to protect his children from him."
Leavitt said he felt the investigation was "politically motivated."
โThere is no organized ring of abuse. It was debunked more than 10 years ago,โ Leavitt said. โThe allegations that are there are so outlandish and so crazy that โ yeah, theyโre just not trueโฆ That this all occurs less than one week before ballots drop in an election in which I am participating causes me tremendous concern.โ

Sheriff Mike Smith wants to emphasize that the UCSO's investigation into ritualistic sexual abuse and child sex trafficking is about the heinous crimes committed against children.
On May 31, 2022, the Utah County Sheriffโs Office issued a press release seeking information regarding ritualistic sexual abuse and child sex trafficking occurring between 1990 and 2010 in Utah County, Juab County, and Sanpete County. Despite efforts by some individuals to delegitimize this investigation as well as intimidate witnesses and law enforcement, this investigation has moved forward with the arrest of David Hamblin for multiple felony counts of sexual crimes against a child.
The Utah County Sheriffโs Office will continue to investigate all leads and all suspects named in this case. As I stated in a press conference on June 1st of this year, the focus of this investigation are the heinous sexual crimes perpetrated upon children.
