The simple willingness to do things others would not, or would find entirely inconceivable, is an advantage not to be underestimated in terms of its expediency in ascending large scale hierarchies (such as those of the state).
This is why it is imperative that the appropriately vigilant state actors take steps to account for these deviant human types, since the scale of the hierarchies we are now dealing with are beyond the capacity of the evolutionary mechanisms and psychological immunity which served us in the past - by acting as intuitive and social filters preventing the nesting of these pathological types.
