The liberalism of today is not liberalism but communism/Socialism. The movers and the players of the world knew that the shortest route to communism was through liberalism. And many conservative policies and ideas have adjusted slightly left word similar to the liberalism of old that you mentioned. Remember that evil is steering many of the ships in the world today and freedom and light and God are our tools against it.
